HATRED ALWAYS LOSES OUT!
November 30, 2004
It may take awhile, and it usually does, but in the end hatred defeats itself. The average person can see, smell, and sense hatred and negativity and they will eventually flee it. However, the left-wing thinkers of our society (I don’t think we can label them as Democrats or even liberals, though many are) have been building a hatred for Bush for several reasons.
He won the presidency illigitimately. He, with the aid of the USSC, stole the Florida election. Most of all, Bush is a religious man and for the Hollywood set, that’s the worst of situations. Oh yes, and to top it all off, he’s become a ‘big-spender’, like the left wing socialists thought only they were.
So, Tuesday night, Hollywood Democrats are holding a “HATE BUSH” meeting at the Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills to organize and beat him in 2004. I never thought we’d see a time such as this. Clinton engendered almost as much disgust, but nothing this emotional.
Billionaire, George Soros, even thinks that Bush is more of a danger to the world than the terrorists who brought down the Twin Towers. He hates Bush so much that he’s put up $15M as openers to see him defeated. He’s even suggested he’d put his entire $7B on the line to beat Bush. Soros compares Bush and his administration with the Nazis.
Working under the organization, MoveOn.org, Soros and Clinton are molding an organization guaranteed to bring Hillary into the presidency in 2008, if not 2004. His billions, Hollywood’s hatred, and the left-wings arrogance, are powerful indeed, but in the end, hatred will lose out- Soros billions notwithstanding.
PS. And it only took one day for gold to close over $400!
CREDIT RATINGS , DEBT, & STUFF!
November 29, 2004
I don’t know about you but I am always trying to improve my credit rating. I’m not looking for perfection- just making sure I am a good witness in that area. I check on my FICOR annually and while I strive to be debt free, I am not an extremist in this area doing away with all credit cards, etc.
It seems that our Federal government is of another opinion. Bush and Co. are spending money, piling up debt, and signing massive bills and programs (like the recently passed Medicare bill) that makes the Democratic social prgrams look conservative. Speaking of conservatives: they are beginning to abandon Bush as well.
Last week, Moody’s issued a CREDIT WARNING on our own Federal government. As the Dollar keeps tanking, interest rates can’t do anything but rise.
The median deficit for all industrialized nations as a percent of GDP is 1.3%: America’s is 3.5%! Our Federal debt is 215% of total revenues. If we keep up thise pace, one day the Dollar might be nothing more than junk status. As I said sometime in the last two weeks, net foreign purchases of U.S. securities dropped from $49.9B in August to $4.19B in September. And, when they stop buying, interest rates have to rise- quickly. Then, so much for the stock market.
Last week, gold traded over $400 an ounce on two occasions- intraday. My bet is that gold will CLOSE over $400 easily in December, if not this week! Why? People want to hold on to something that has real value, not fiat money (be it Dollars, Euros, or Yen). Since the Federal Reserve was established 90 years ago, the Dollar has lost 97% of its value. Boy, is the Fed ever looking after us or what?
I don’t think December is going to be anything like the Wall Street
stock brokers are promising.
POWER OF THE PRESIDENCY
November 26, 2004
If anything is a reminder to those Democratic nine wannabes about the power of the presidency, Thanksgiving was another loud reminder. The power of encumbency, especially that of the president, is massive.
At almost any moment, the president can command center stage of not just the United States but the whole world. He has at his right hand the entire resources of the United States. He can hop aboard Air Force One and take as many jets, secret service men, and military might as he wants, anywhere in the world.
Out of the blue, he can do some task that gets the attention of all the media for 24-48 hours. And, if you add to it the charisma that George Bush has (yes him!), you have a powerful force indeed.
Oh yes, and did I mention that he has or anticipates having $200,000,000.00 in campaign funds? Did I mention that the economic indicators are now favoring him as well. The last thing I’d want to be today is one of those nine Democratic presidential candidates- unless of course you’re just an ego-maniac and want to be in front of a microphone and TV camera for a few months. Maybe.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING WORLD
November 25, 2004
This Thanksgiving I am more thankful than I can remember. I only wish that our world was more at peace. I wish that our 150,000 troops in Iraq were celebrating at home with family. I am one of the lucky fathers. My son is back from Iraq, safe and sound. Thousands are not.
I am thankful that in America a Christian can still be elected president. I am thankful that America has been so blessed financially and that fate brought me in to the world in these United States. I am thankful that I was able to go to college and beyond. I am thankful that I had a mother that encouraged me to be all that I could be.
I am most thankful that at age seventeen, I was drawn to Jesus Christ and I accepted Him as not just my Savior, but my Lord (most of the time).
Whenever things seem to not be going my way, I just look at my surroundings and contemplate the other 90% of the world that has it far worse than I….and then I’m thankful again.
I pray that everyone who reads this commentary realizes how privileged they are to even have electricity, let alone a computer. It’s hard to imagine that nearly 50% of our world has yet to use a telephone, but that’s a fact.
POLITICAL CONSPIRACY THEORIES
November 24, 2004
Okay, let’s pursue the dark shadows of the “political-what-ifs”. With the nation bitterly divided between the red and the blue camps in a nearly 50-50 split, the rhetoric is fierce. Just when you thought Clinton was the most hated man in America in 2000, along comes George Bush who appears to be just as hated in 2004.
Bill wants Hill to run; however, she’s far more patient and calculated than he is. She can afford to wait until 2008 though that itch is getting stronger. Trying to find a candidate that would cow-tow to their desires was difficult but “along came a spider” (did you see that movie?). And his name was Wesley Clark.
He was prompted and pushed by neo-Clintonites to make the run for president. Bill wants to keep control of the Democratic party. Unfortunately it turned into a stumble (many of them) and Wesley isn’t going to make the grade. In fact, it looks like Howard Dean is going to sew up the nomination in about 90 days.
So, does Hillary step in? Or, do the Clinton’s take their toys and go elsewhere? The latter story seems to be happening. Soros is funding a massive anti-Bush group called, Americans Coming Together. If Dean wins the nomination, Terry McAuliffe is out as the head of the Democratic party and so too the Clintons. So, they’re planning to set up political housekeeping elsewhere.
So, a “shadow-political-team” is being set up just in case Dean does win and Hill stays out of the fray. In the meantime, Hill is headed for the hills of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan this Thanksgiving to further her public personna worldwide.
Ahh, political intrigue!
A PROPHETIC VOICE?
November 23, 2004
In the midst of Kerry deciding to be more of an alternative candidate, riding motorcycles to show people how young and innovative he is, there’s a voice that’s wanting to be heard. Are the Republicans secretly funding Howard Dean, feeling that they can defeat him the easiest? Is that what we’re hearing?
Well, you can hear about anything these days; however, the prophetic voice that I am referring to is the voice of our younger generation: specifically our teenagers. The Gallup organization has just polled our teens, aged 13-17 nationwide on the subject of ABORTION!
The Supreme Court of the land, and all the other so-called liberal judges, who have decided they are our new gods of our era, believe and tell us that abortion is legal- even late term abortions. This flies in the face of what the public opinion is in America, where only 26% of the adults think abortions should be legal. And, only 19% of our teenagers think abortion should be legal.
But, here’s the heart of the story and the latest survey. When asked about the the moral issue of abortion, a huge 82% of those aged 13-17 said abortions are MORALLY WRONG! But, if you think that will have any sway with our judges who are elected and appointed for life, forgetdaboutit!
As an aside, those teenagers who DON’T go to church (according to the survey) felt that abortion was morally acceptable by a 3-1 margin over those who DO go to church (38% to 12%). Whether a person goes to church or not, is a Muslin or Christian, matters not to me. I think what we’re seeing and hearing is that our children seem to know more of what’s right and what’s wrong in this area than do adults. They sure know more than the judges in our land: isn’t THAT a scary thought!
A HOUSE (& SENATE) DIVIDED!
November 22, 2004
Medicare and energy are the latest issues to divide our nation- or should I say our radio-active Congressmen.
Ted Kennedy is fit to be tied. When the House put the Medicare bill up for a vote, and then abandoned the 15 minute voting time, it spelled trouble for Ted. Finally after nearly three hours of arm-bending, and awaking the President to twist some arms, the bill passed by five votes. Ted likened it to Florida 2000: a stolen election.
So, now it’s on to the Senate where Ted threatens a filibuster (otherwise known as stealing the vote) the bill. The acrimony and name-calling is really heating up with about a year to go before the election.
So, as we start the new week, a short one thankfully, the question is can Bush and Co. deliver the goods, or can Kennedy & Clan hold up the works. The energy bill seems destined to have to wait until next year; however, Medicare can’t wait. Bush wants a bill and you know his line: “Medicine has changed but Medicare hasn’t.”
So, the two sides of the political isle get more firmly entrenched in their disdain and hatred for one another. America, a divided nation. I wished I’ve never heard of that Scripture in Matt. 12:25.
THE CHINA SYNDROME?
November 20, 2004
It was 24 years ago and a lot younger looking Michael Douglas that starred in this movie. The current horror flick that we’re starting to watch is entirely different though.
I’ve posted several comments in times past about China such as: they are the future, they are the world’s manufacturer, 85% of the goods that Wal-Mart sells come from China, they are moving to a gold-backed currency most probably, etc.
Well, the Bush administration is finally waking up to this power and then doing the wrong thing(s). The last thing we want to do is get into a trade war with China, but we’re headed there.
We have recently slapped some imposing tariffs on Chinese goods such as: textiles (a biggie), TV’s, metal alloys, and other goods. So, the Chinese responded by saying that they would not buy any more of our farm products (wheat and soybeans as an example).
Worse yet, the People’s Bank Of China is the 2nd largest holder of Treasury securities. So, if they quit buying bonds, or even sell what they hold, watch interest rates here at home sky-rocket.
China is our biggest future economic problem and challenge. Right now it is terrorism, but we can’t fight terrorism without funds: and we can’t have funds treating China they way we’re headed.
CELEBRATING LIFE
November 19, 2004
Later today I will remove the “Coming Events” column that you can read above this commentary. But, first I want to spend some time saying how proud I am of some fabulous administrators and teachers in the Houston (Region IV) area who pour out their lives into our high school art students.
Last night 656 people gathered to celebrate life, to celebrate creativity, and to reward those who break out of the mold, the cosmic egg, and go places few do.
Congratulations to Gloria McCoy and Cathleen May who like candles, extinguish themsleves to give light to others (they are teachers). They take our kids where we can’t- won’t. Later in the day, I’ll get back to the mundane things of life, but for this Friday morning, I am savoring the gift of life that our Houston area high school students are living. ![]()
THREE ‘BAD’ OPTIONS
November 18, 2004
Well, let’s see. What trial do you want to watch? Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, or Michael Jackson? Man, will the next six months be exciting or what? Yeah, right! What is America’s fascination with trials? Is this why cable TV was invented? None of the three are options for me.
However, America is facing three options that are much worse, but the American consumer doesn’t seem a bit concerned about it: it’s like they don’t even know the storm clouds are on the horizon.
America has many looming economic disasters to deal with, not the least of which is the trade deficit that is running near a half TRILLION a year. So, how do we solve the problem? Three options- all bad!
We could fire Greenspan and tell George to forget about geting elected in 2004 and let the natural forces that want to correct from the excesses of the 90’s have their way. They will eventually; however, a recession or mini depression won’t be allowed: at least for the next year.
So, option two is to impose tariffs on imports and knock down that deficit real quick. In fact, Bush has done that with steel and he’s indicating he’ll do it with textiles from China. Tariffs are a two-edged sword though.
Finally, we could let the Dollar drop another 20-30% and make our exports look great. So far this as been the option of choice; however, it cuts both ways as well. An indication of that came in September when net capital inflows dropped 90%: August to September.
The bottom line is that while Americans sleep (or are caught up in watching the troubles of Scott, Kobe, and Michael), the American economy is in tough straits. But as long as no one is aware of it, who cares. And that does seem to be the prevailing mindset, doesn’t it.
YES-……….IT IS HAPPENING!
November 17, 2004
Back to some of my previous economic prognostications. As I write this around 7pm Tuesday evening the spot gold price just hit $400.50. The $400 level has been broken. I have no idea if it will stay there for the open Wednesday morning but there are some things I can tell you FOR SURE (because they DID happen Tuesday).
The shorts, commercials, and banks hammered gold on Monday and tried to take the steam out, but gold came roaring back Tuesday (up $6, with HUI up a huge $13). Some cheap stocks that I told you about last week, like CALVF and MYNG, were up huge! I sold 50% of my MYNG as it was up 25%- FOR THE DAY! Where can you get that kind of a return- that’s legal?
Why? Well, for all the reasons I’ve been talking about. The Euro jumped to a record close (1.1959). The Dollar is falling like a rock ($90.45). The Yen ($108.08) is blowing and going even while the NEIKKI is falling apart. Foreigners are not buying our securities (Sept. saw the biggest drop in foreign purchases in memory). The Federal deficit for October surged $69.55 billion (up 27% from a year ago).
Oh yes, and what about that stock market, BULL market that your broker has been telling you about? The DOW has been down 6 of the last 7 days. M3 is falling faster than Greenie can print those new $20 bills that don’t work at my Kroger automated check out line.
Anyway, let me caution you on one technicality. The December 400 gold options expire Tuesday. All of those shorts will do whatever they can to slam gold between now and next Tuesday. After that? Get on board. I’m not sure the shorts have the stomach or muscle but I would be on the sidelines “buying the proverbial dips” (one reason I took profits today to get in position for what I think will be a temporary dip as we mull around that $400 gold mark). Enough investment advice.
PS. Maybe one more. Silver is even cheaper than gold so check out HL or CDE. Maybe even PAAS.
DEMOCRATS & THE BLACK VOTE
November 16, 2004
It’s such a terrible thing to be taken for granted; however, that is what many blacks are beginning to feel like as they blindly vote the straight Democratic ticket year after year. There was once a day when the vote was merited, but that day is over.
The achilles heel in the Democratic philosophy evolves around education, or the lack thereof. You see, the social, liberal view is that everyone should get the SAME PUBLIC education, regardless of how good or bad it is. If it’s a PUBLICLY funded program, then it has to be good. What that has done is to cement inter-city kids (particularly blacks and other minorities) into a sub-standard educational system.
Several black leaders that I am friends with now see this quick sand scenario and want out! They want options! I have to agree with George Bush when he says that the worst kind of discrimination is educational!
This week, Ted Kennedy is going to be put on the hot seat as a Republican proposal will come up for a vote (in a large measure of course) in the Senate that would allow nearly 2,000 of the District of Columbia’s 65,000 poor children to attend private schools at public expense. This school-choice plan is a hot potato!
The House has already backed such a plan and Bush is anxious to get such a bill passed. If the public school system is SO GOOD for the poor and minority students, why do the Congressmen put their kids in private schools? We already know the answer to that, and it’s because they want their kids to have a GOOD education: and so do the faithful Democratic black and minority voters.
IT’S ARNOLD TIME!
November 15, 2004
Grabbing the headlines on Monday will be difficult with so much going on but my bet is that Caleee-for-neeea gets the most attention today. For you see, it’s Arnold time!
The Hollywood action hero will now get to test his skills on the politicians in Sacremento: and they are in no friendly mood. Just to make sure that he doesn’t mess up any of his lines on day one, Arnold had it pretty well scripted out.
There will not be any black-tie gala events. The state is broke after all. There will be just a brief inauguration, a few sound bytes and then before lunch has been digested in his steroid lined stomach, he’ll call a special session of the lesislature. As he as said, the people elected him to get things done- ACTION!
Facing a $10,000,000,000.00 debt, he can’t take his time at getting things done. And this is not a surprise to Arnold. Back in the ’70’s he had his heart set on politics. The proverbial dog has caught the car he was chasing. Now what? Today we begin to find out what a man does when he gets his heart’s desire because like it or not, IT’S ARNOLD TIME!
BRITISH BUSH BASHING!
November 14, 2004
I’m sure that you have seen some of the British Parliament debates and how they carry on business. They make our Congress look like a Sunday School class. It’s a rowdy bunch to be sure; however, this next week they will get the blue ribbon for the “best of bulli-ness”.
Bush heads to London next week and it’s going to turn out to be one of the most dangerous and expensive trips he’s taken to date as President. London is a growing community of Islamic militants. They have not liked Tony Blair’s position on Iraq, and they certainly don’t like what Bush is doing.
It’s expected that there will be massive demonstrations, loss of property and life before the week is up. The most serious challenge though is how to protect George W.
Scotland Yard has put the nation on the second highest alert that the nation can offer. More than 5,000 Metropolitan police have been called into serious over-time duty. Then there’s the bubble. Bush will have some 700 of his own Secret Service agents covering him like a wet blanket.
Is it worth It? The costs and risks are enormous. But, what’s the cost if freedom and liberty run and hide every time there is a threat?
