ONE WORLD GOV. COMING?
March 31, 2005
The World Court has now ruled that the U.S. violated the rights of 51 Mexicans on death row, and ORDERED Washington to review their cases. Say what?
Let me make sure I understand this. A group of foreigners held a meeting in The Hague, Netherlands, and decided that Texas needs to handle the way it’s legal system works. Right? Am I getting this right? Is this where we are headed?
What ever happened to the principle of sovereignity- of nations? It’s bad enough that our own courts are MAKING law instead of interpreting it (thus over-throwing the legislative branch of government). It’s worse yet that our own Supreme Court has recently used what other nations are doing as a guide for interpreting our Constitution. But….. to have a foreign court anywhere in the world tell us Texans or Californians how we should live life. Well, you can take that opinion and, and forgetdaboutit!
Yes, a one world government is coming and you’re seeing how utterly ineffective it will be as you see how the United Nations (that oversees the World Court) takes no action and when things get tough in Baghdad they clear out. One World government is coming, but not in my time!
FINALLY SOME DIALOGUE!
March 30, 2005
It would be an understatement to say that the First Amendment has been severly abused! Abused from the standpoint that a person can say anything, be as vulgar as they can, and then claim they have the right to say it because of the First Amendment.
Thanks to Janet Jackson we’ve gotten some insight as to where all of this is headed and enough people have had enough. I don’t think our founding fathers had smut and trash-talking in mind when they drafted the First Amendment. Now that Howard Stern and some of his clones have been fined or dropped by their radio stations, everyone is up in arms.
A regular on Fox & Friends, Mancow, has actually sued a man claiming “harassment”. Say what? You speak trash on the airwaves, I complain, and I’m harassing you? All of a sudden “decency” is an issue.
A day-long summit is being held by the FCC to try and figure out what the rules should be. Now? What’s the FCC been doing all this time anyway? Finally, we’re getting some serious dialogue about what’s decent and what’s not. I can’t wait to hear their answer.
UNFAIR & UNBALANCED
March 29, 2005
Sometimes, I have to bite my lower lip or squeeze my toes up as tight as I can in my shoes to hold back that emotional outburst that would bring unwanted attention. The last few days have been very much like that.
It ended when I posted an article in USAToday (it may still be on this site under the “Political News” with the caption- Poll: Bush Credibility Down). The headline was followed up by the statistic showing that 54% of the people felt that the Bush administration didn’t do all it could to prevent 9-11.
Let me ask this question. Is THAT question the most important one or would the question, who should be president, be the most important? I think both JFK and Bush would say the latter.
Well, buried behind that news was the poll results that showed Bush NOW leads JFK by a 51-47 percentage point spread: a GAIN of 7 percentage points in the last three weeks. The same poll! Over on the Drudge website (you know that radical right-wing conservative (?) the same poll is reported but the caption is : Bush Rebound! And, the lead is the 51-47 standing.
Lesley Stahl’s 27 minute interview of Richard Clarke talking 99% of the time about only the Bush administration failures and not Clinton, is another example of unfair and unbalanced.
But of course the fact that Clarke is getting more than a million for his book doesn’t mean he has a vested interest, or that he voted for Gore in 2000, or the fact that even HE refused to testify in 1999 citing “privilege”, which he now berates Rice for invoking. Politics at its worst. Maybe.
Anyway. who said the press had to be “Fair and Balanced”? That’s just a catch-phrase Fox News uses.
SEPARATION OF CHURCH-STATE?
March 28, 2005
Well, it’s going to be interesting to see how we can compare the two Democratic Senators from Massachussetts, the two Catholics, and the two JFK’s. An interesting scenario.
Back when the first JFK ran for president, it was an entirely different country. Abortion was not a major campaign hot issue. Stem cell research wasn’t heard of. And the pre-born rights of a fetus was just not talked about; however, last week we got a glimpse of things to come.
JFK took time out to hustle back to the hill to vote on a bill that would have given rights to the unborn. He voted against it- for the pro-aborts, and with a minority of Senators. All of this in a season when the Pope has called upon the Bishops to “get tough” on politicians who claim to embrace Catholicism, while voting against human life issues.
Can you imagine JFK being denied communion? It could happen.
When JFK was asked about it he said he didn’t see a problem because church and state are separate. Well, duh! But doesn’t the value of that church one espouses have something to do with how one votes? Doesn’t one’s spiritual beliefs have some impact on one’s life. Can they be two totally separate entities?
Oh, right, we’re talking JFK here. Maybe the two don’t have anything to do qith anything!
HOW UN-DEMOCRATIC!
March 26, 2005
I wonder what Edward Kennedy is thinking? For that matter what kind of a message is this man sending to the entire Democratic base anyway? John Kerry wants to give a 5% tax reduction to Haliburton- and other large corporations?
Say it isn’t so, John!
Well, my guess is he’s not sending a message to the Democratic base, because they wouldn’t believe it anyway. My guess is that John Kerry was sending a message to the independents and to Bush personally. He may have raised taxes 350 times so far in the Senate, but for ONCE, he’s calling for a tax reduction. That should confuse those who have seen the Bush commercials declaring him a serial-tax raiser. And, isn’t that the point?
Ahh, but this is John Kerry! Promise anything today and once elected, forget about it. You know his line, “Before I voted against the $87B military expenditure, I voted for it.” In other words, he can go both ways (in voting only- maybe).
It’s going to be an interesting strategic battle to November. Imagine, a Democrat asking for tax deductions for the largest US corporations. I don’t think the sham, strategy is going to work! ![]()
I’M FEELING LEFT OUT!
March 25, 2005
Have you ever had that feeling that no matter what you say, how loud you yell, or how prolific you write, it’s not going to make any difference? No one’s paying any attention. Or, if they are, they too are powerless to do anything.
If the 2000 election showed most Americans anything, it was that no matter who got the popular vote majority, it might not matter. And the Democrats cringe!
I thought Texas might have a shot at deciding who would be the Democratic nominee but once again, no dice. The week before the Texas primary, Kerry already had it warpped up. I guess since I wasn’t going to vote for him anyway that it wasn’t that big of a loss.
As I read poll after poll, and hear Democrats and Republicans duke it out predicting who will win, I am saddened that whatever I think, be I a Democrat or Republican, it won’t matter because I live in Texas.
Here’s what I think. Write it down and hold on to it for eight months. The person who wins the presidency in November is the person who wins the 90 electoral votes from five states: Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Tennessee. Since I don’t live there, here I sit feeling left out again. Seriously. These five states that represent 17% of the total electoral votes will command the attention of Bush and Kerry. I think Bush knows this since he’s visited Pennsylvania the most of any state since taking office (19 times).
But hey! If the terrorists bomb our Texas refineries, as the Homeland Security warned might happen, maybe we’ll get back into the ball game.
UN-COLA, AND UN-DEAN!
March 24, 2005
Okay, let’s take a survey. How many drink COLA versus those who drink UN-COLA?
Let me digress briefly. In 1967, Seven-Up introduced the UN-COLA advertising campaign and sent sales sky-rocketing. The joy-ride was limited to a brief time-frame though. In 2003, Seven-Up has only 1.2% of the market share in the USA. The COLAS (Coke and Pepsi) have more than 60% or the US market.
In other words, Seven-Up enjoyed a brief time in the sun, but ultimately, UN-COLA could not hold it’s gains. Thanks for the history lesson Ern.
Now it seems as though we’re seeing the same thing happening, if but for a moment, with John Kerry. Polls are now showing that Bush has gained 5-10% not by increasing his share, but by Kerry losing his share of the voting market.
In other words, he got the nomination, and people flocked to him not because of who he WAS, but for who he wasn’t: Howard Dean. In other words, he became popular and got the nomination because he was UN-DEAN!
Now, he has to face the COLA, otherwise known as George Bush. I in no way agree with Dick Morris, that Bush is going to run away with the election, as he said yesterday; however, I do believe we’re seeing the UN-COLA principle taking place in the political arena.
Those who got on the UN-DEAN train are now going to have to decide if that’s really the best ride, when compared to the COLA (Bush).
WHO CARES ABOUT 2019?
March 23, 2005
I’m sure that you probably saw the report Tuesday that said Medicare would go bankrupt in 2019. Last year, they said it would go bankrupt by 2026. We lost seven years in one year. Does this mean that it will go bankrupt in 2012 next year, and then in 2006, it really goes under?
As for me, I’m more concerned about 2004. If we don’t get this nation back together again, you can forget about more than Medicare. You see, I believe the principle that’s thousands of years old which says, “A house divided will FALL.” Let me be clear about the point- a NATION as divided as America is today cannot have a happy ending.
Another example from Tuesday. We saw Albright and Cohen from the Clinton years shove blame to Rumsfeld and Powell of the Bush # 41 tenure, and vice-versa. The 9-11 Commission got a heads and tails view of terrorism. As I said yeasterday, chalk it up to an 8-1 blame game.
While the emperors fiddle, Rome is burning: and Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, etc. Get the picture?
Can we lay politics down and just get real about the issues facng our nation? Are you kidding? I think what we need is some sort of supernatural intervention. While that may sound good initially, I’m not all that sure what that would mean. Anyone interested in some asbestos stock?
NOW, WE WANT CIVILITY! NOW?
March 22, 2005
Unless you have spent the Winter, and maybe part of last Fall, in some far away island without internet and electricity, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Nine Democratic Dwarfs. Remember?
Starting around October of 2003, these nine and at times ten, could be seen on TV and in numerous debates bashing George Bush. He was called a liar and every kind of name that if spoken in the streets, would get your head knocked off.
In the 1Q of 2004, the attacks were limited to just 3-5 and Ted Kennedy of course. I’m sure you know that Ted accused the president of going to war just for oil, and having made the decisions because of political hoped-for benefits.
Well, guess what! Last week, George Bush came out with a couple of attack ads calling Kerry a “serial tax raiser”. And he is- having voted to raise taxes 350 times while in the Senate. Bush even mentioned Kerry by “name” the press reported. And the liberal press is now calling for civility?
You know, if this presidential race gets really nasty, it will turn people off. Let me give you my interpretation of the latest editorial comments by the left-living press. It’s okay if one (Democrat) bashes another (Republican), but we can’t have Republicans striking back.
After six months of nasty, mean-spirited, personal attacks on Bush’s character, we suddenly want civility? Right!
THE BLAME GAME RATIO
March 20, 2005
Next week, the political mud-slinging changes emphasis from Bush vs. Kerry to Bush vs. Clinton. But you say, it’s been “a” Bush vs. Clinton scenario for years now. Yes, but all of next week the news will be the inquiry into who knew what, when, and how leading up to 9-11. The main meetings are Tuesday and Wednesday.
Richard Clarke has already sent the first shot over the bow with his interview with Lesley Stahl saying that Bush and Co. were soft on terrorism and concentrated on Iraq after 9-11. Did I mention his new book is just coming out: timely. Clinton aides will testify that they warned Bush about terrorism, hinting that 9-11 could have been prevented IF Bush had paid attention to business.
Let’s just back off and get a broad perspective of what 9-11 was all about, and how it happened anyway. We all know how Clinton sent a couple of missiles into Afghanistan and called it a day. We know how the Clinton administration cut back on intelligence, military, and CIA activities during his two terms so we could have more “social” programs.
But, for me the question is simple. In this who do we blame for 9-11, I’d say both the Democrats and the Republicans are to blame- in the following percentages.
Clinton was the Prez for 8 years, and Bush was Prez for 8 months prior to 9-11. So, I’d say Clinton and the Democrats shoulder the blame 8-1. Of course that makes too much sense doesn’t it!
A VERY DIVIDED WORLD
March 19, 2005
The 2000 year presidential election in America was just a precursor to where we are today. More than three years later, America is still nearly divided 50-50. What each 50 is remains undefinable. It would be too simple to call it Liberal-Conservative or Secular-Fundamentalist.
And it seems that the world finds itself in the same mold. Yesterday’s presidential election in Taiwan was yet another example. Challenger, Lien Chan lost by less than 30,000 votes out of nearly 13,000,000 votes cast. So, there will be yet another challenge to Chen Shui-bian’s victory. Had he not been shot the day before, maybe he would not have won.
And a funny thing happened on the way to the Popular party’s victory in Spain: a bombing of the transit system which turned the election upside down and brought in the Socialist party in less than 48 hours.
So, here we sit in a very divided America taking polls, asking people who they think will win when we’re eight months away from election day. One event the day before could change who wins the presidency. The independent variables are too great for either party to make any predictions, let alone the 50-50 split we find our nation in.
FANTASY & DISNEYLAND, USA
March 17, 2005
A massive bomb goes off in Baghdad Wednesday killing dozens of people. It was small in comparison to the train bombings that killed 200+ in Spain a few days earlier. Thursday morning it was a bomb in Basra killing a smaller number. Just about everywhere you look people are dying and being killed by radical Muslim elements (not all Muslims are crazy).
Back here in America, we’re trying to figure out if gays can be legally married. Back here in America we’re trying to figure out if Howard Stern’s show is indecent. Back here in America, we’re arguing over the facts of allowing gay men to have sex in public parks. And, back here in America, we’re seeing first Janet Jackson, and last night Courtney Love, bare their breasts before the world.
Is there any wonder much of the world has a great disdain for America? We use our military to bring democracy to a people that are oppressed; however, is what we’re experiencing and living in America, what these people want?
I’m afraid our testimony and our lifestyle is now the laughing stock of the world. I’m afraid there’s too much about our ‘democratic state’ that’s not good. I’m afraid we’re living in a fantasy land, Disney World if you will, that’s not sustainable or desirable.
Can we change it, or are we headed for a train wreck?
PARLEZ VOUS FRANCAIS?
March 16, 2005
I took four years of Spanish in high school and college. I also took three years of French. So, I hable better than I parlez. Comprende? Am I losing you?
It looks like the Red states and the Blue states are going to have to give way to the hable states and the parlez states in 2004.
The French love John Kerry. He went to school there and he speaks the language. I guess it’s good that I hable better than I parlez since I live in Texas.
After all French is a language that is dying out across the world, taking on more of the characteristics of Mel Gibson’s Aramic language. And, Spanish is one of the fastest growing, if not the fastest growing language.
So, bottom line, don’t let your babies grow up to parlez!
VERY INTERESTING TIMES!
March 15, 2005
It’s bad enough that the Spanish have thrown in the towel but Mel Gibson also? I’m sitting here at 9,000 ft watching Bll O’Reilly as I write this with an idiot intellect (is that possible- oh yeah!) saying we should negotiate with al-Qaeda. I guess I should take a real vacation and turn off the news!
What a day, what a weekend. Mel Gibson is supposedly going to say on O’Reilly Tuesday night that he’s having doubts about Bush. Hey, I’m having doubts about the world. The jury is still out on America, but the world I think has lost it’s compass.
While we’re at it why don’t we make a deal with the devil! Listen, just give us more health insurance benefits, guarantee us $25 an hour jobs, make the rich pay 90% of their income, and we’ll let al-Qaeda alone. Oh, that sounds like the Democratic presidential positions doesn’t it.
The election this year might not be an election on George Bush, but rather an election on just how long America will continue to be a prosperous nation- or maybe, just “a” nation.
