WMD’s HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED!

June 30, 2005

You may not have have heard about it. It’s been talked about for years now, but finally, we have discovered the secret(s) to the WMD’s.

As Saddam Hussein and Chemical Ali are turned over to the Iraqis (while under U.S. confinement and protection) today, there no longer is any need to pressure Saddam on the WMD’s because they are in every nation in the world, every state, city, and village. Don’t panic though- yet. I am talking about the Weapons Of Man’s Destruction.

It seems as though man has been on a mission to destroy himself ever since he discovered himeself. Was it the apple, the woman, or did the Devil really make us do it? So, what is it now? The nuclear bomb and capability? Chemical or biological weapons? I think the weapons are a lot more subtle and far more systemic.

A U.S. commanding general on Wednesday said that he didn’t fear that there would be a civil war in Iraq because there wasn’t enough hatred. Really! How much does it take anyway, and how do you measure it? The worst WMD’s today are greed, self absorbtion, humanism (man is the measure of all things), entitlements, pride, secularism, and, well you get the picture!

We KNOW that they are there because many reside (or have) within us. We’re all too familiar with our conscience though we try and cover it up with more and more stuff. Do more things, be more productive, accomplish more tasks, and maybe people will not notice our fear of- ourselves.

STAR WARS & POLITICAL GAIN

June 29, 2005

Almost everyone has heard of George Soro’s efforts to defeat George Bush. The billionaire has vowed to spend his entire fortune to see Bush defeated. So far he has contributed a $15 million, making the billionaire couple (John & Teresa Kerry) the richest challenger in political history.

Over the weekend, Sir Templeton pumped in 1/15th of the Soros amount; but, we have just begun to see the stars come out. Barbara Streisand will be right behind Michael Moore. Every actor in Hollywood is going to get in on the action before it’s all over.

What ever happened to the Campaign Finance Reform law? Ahh, yes. Whatever the law is, there will be a way to get around it. In this presidential year, it’s the #527’s that are getting the action. And you thought the $200 million that Bush raised was big-time stuff?

The Democrats (with Soros leading the way) have pumped $80 million into various 527 organizations: ten times what the Republicans have been able to raise! In fact when you look at the top 25 donors to the 527s, 24 are Democrats.

It will be interesting to see how (if) the Republicans and Bush respond to such firepower and star power. One thing is for sure. The next four months are going to be intense, powerful, and backed by hundreds of millions of dollars. The politicians will own the airwaves come September-October.

THE DANGERS OF DIALING 911

June 28, 2005

Thankfully I’ve never had to dial 911: I hope I never have to either. There is a 911 though that’s an option and that would be Fahrenheit 911- the movie. Let me spell out my prejudices up front on this commentary. I can’t disagree with Michael Moore any more than I do with John Kerry. It’s just that Kerry is a bit more civil, rational.

Moore makes no bones about his bias or his purpose to maiking his film: it’s to use film-making to defeat a president, senator, or elected official. In other words, Michael Moore wants to be the MAN who by way of FILM determines who gets elected and who does not. I have to give it to him for ambition.

One of the major problems that I have with MM is not that he is a Democrat, flaming liberal, or kook. It’s how he sees my country, America, that turns me off- BIG TIME! I think he truly hates the USA. There are at least 4 dozen statments that he has made- that make my point.

One of the more recent ones was this. In an interview with a Japanese newspaper, Moore helped citizens of that country understand why the United States went to war in Iraq: ëThe motivation for war is simple. The U.S. government started the war with Iraq in order to make it easy for U.S. corporations to do business in other countries. They intend to use cheap labor in those countries, which will make Americans rich.í Give me a break!

He has also said that he thinks “Americans are the most stupid people on the planet”. We’re certainly not a perfect nation or people. I don’t need to go see a movie to verify that; however, to make a political movie to enhance one’s bias, and call it a documentary, misses the mark greatly. His movie raked in $21 mil over the weekend. The danger of 991, MM, is that those who live by the sword die by it.

A VERY BIG WEEK AHEAD!

June 27, 2005

I am sure that you’ll be glad to know that Umm Mohammed has set the record straight. Her husband, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, the militant suspected of masterminding the wave of terror attacks rocking Iraq, really isn’t a terrorist! He’s a nice guy, kind, gentle, and loving. He’d never kill an innocent child or woman.

Okay, on to some realism!

This week portends to be one of those exciting, riveting, and news-making weeks. Here at home the Fed and Alan Greenspan meet Tuesday and Wednesday, and then make a decision on raising interest rates for the first time in years. The markets could go wild- in every direction.

Over there, we transfer power technically and legally to the Interm government and all hell could break loose in Iraq. The week hasn’t begun and the news outlets are saying that three Turks, one Pakistani, and one Marine are being threatened with beheading. There’s a lot of confusion (as I write this near midnight Sunday evening) as Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, is being reported by some as AWOL.

How’d they get him anyway? In time, we’ll find out. And as it’s been said, TODAY has enough trouble for it’s own. And the week ahead is shaping up to have more trouble than we really need.

MONEY & TONE HEAT UP!

June 26, 2005

You have already probably heard it by now. The Democrats say that the Vice President of the United States, the one and only Dick Cheney, called (D) Senator Leahy the ‘F” word! Ahh, but here’s what you may not have heard. Cheney admitted to it, said it was long overdue, and that he felt better after having said it! I don’t know which thing shocks me the most, Cheney using the “F” word or Cheney admitting to it.

We still have more than four months to go in this campaign and the rhetoric just keeps getting more and more intense. Of course Kerry used the “F” word in a magazine interview a few months back. So, what’s the shock? The Democrats are trying to make an issue of the fact that it happened on the Senate floor: as though it was some sort of Holy ground! Duh!

Then after Soros has ponied up for some $15 million to the Kerry campaign, Sir John Templeton has given $1 million to the Bush campaign. The billionaires feel that there’s much at stake evidently. Neither man is looking for a job so it must all be to protect their financial interests or just plain ole ideology.

What was said a year ago is becoming more and more self evident. The 125 days that lay ahead are going to heat up and we’ll probably see a lot more melt-downs en route to the election.

GET READY FOR THE DRAFT!

June 24, 2005

The year was 1964 and I was able to avoid the draft because I was in college. The year was 1965 and I was married, and in college so once more I could avoid a trip to the Southeast. The year was 1966 and I was in college, married, and expecting a child so once again, I get moved to the end of the line. It wasn’t a plan, because while in college, I was in the Air Force ROTC and #1 in my class; however, due to the strange nature of life, I never had to go off to war.

It’s been 31 years since America had a draft, but that all may change in 2005 if Bush is re-elected: probably not if Kerry is. Stand-by plans are now in place and there’s even a “testing” of the effectiveness of setting up 442 area offices, and 1,980 local boards. Folks (as Bill O’Reilly would say), it’s going to happen.

Our military is too stretched even though America spends nearly as much on defense as all other nations in the world combined! The latest figures show that we have 1.4 million people on active duty and another 1.2 milion reservists. That’s a 1/3rd reduction in reservists compared to 1992 when Clinton became president. He decimated our military by the way!

All that said, with 138,000 troops in Iraq, problems in N. Korea, growing concerns with Iran, and that 800 pound gorilla (can you say China?) in the Far East, the handwriting is on the wall. What I missed (a draft) in the 60’s, won’t be missed by many of our young people, which could very well include my youngest son who is a Freshman in high schol this year. If you have a son or daughter in high school, it’s time to pray!

Having gotten through the trauma of an older son surviving the introductory war of Iraq, I don’t look forward to the prospect of a new draft in 2005, but from where I sit, it looks like a reality: he dawnng of a new age and I’m not talking Acquarius.

FROM ONE AGE TO ANOTHER!

GIVE ME A BREAK-! PLUU-EEASE!

June 23, 2005

It hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been offered- anywhere I know. Well, let me be specific and not exaggerate. The last time Harris County offered an amnesty program for those with outstanding tickets, to come and pay them before they come to get you, less then 9% did! We’re not talking about a major crime or a felony here. We’re talking about people who didn’t pay their parking ticket, or the fine for running a stop sign.

So, how many terrorists do you think are going to turn themselves in (in Saudi Arabia) and face big-time crime penalties! Saudi Arabia announced toay a limited 30 day amnesty program. If you’re a terrorist and turn yourself in between now and July 25th, there will be no death penalty. Really!

Crown Prince Abdullah went on TV to say, “We are opening the door of amnesty to everyone who deviated from the path of right and committed a crime in the name of religion, which is in fact a corruption on earth,”. Say what? Deviated from the path of right? I am sure there will be a line at the police station tomorrow.

Seriously, these terrorists think it is WE who have deviated from the path of right- not them! The terrorists are the only ones on the right path. Do the Saudi’s really think this will work or is this some PR ploy? A time to get ready? What? Tell me please.

AN EVIL AND A VICTORIOUS DAY!

June 22, 2005

President Roh Moo-hyun said he meant what he said and that what he says, he means! Is there a failure to communicate here? Nope!

The president of South Korea appeared unmoved and steadfast in his resolve to send 3,000 more troops to Iraq in spite of the beheading of Kim Sun-il, a 33-year-old S. Korean who worked in Iraq. Unlike the Spanish, it appears that S. Korea can’t be bought off, scared away, or intimidated.

We need to not only send a message that we will not back down from such brutality, but that instead of sending 3,000 troops, we’d double it to 6,000 troops- and another 3,000 for each S. Korean beheaded.

There’s only one language that barbarians understand and that’s POWER! The S. Koreans who demonstrated in the streets asking for the president to not send the 3,000 troops would be the very same people asking the government to do something if al-Qaeda was on the loose in their country.

We can’t wait until it is too late. Didn’t we learn anything from WWII? Haven’t we seen throughout history that certain evil groups have to be met with force, in spite of how bad that scenario turns out.

It was another sad day in the history of the world, with the latest beheading. It was a victorious day though because President Roh Moo-hyun didn’t give in to intimidation and barbarianism.

THE THREE VICE PRESIDENTS

June 21, 2005

Three blind mice or three bright fellows?

I’ve been saying for about a month now that I think Bush will find a cushy, high-visibility job for Dick Cheney and opt for RUDY, as in Giuliani, as his running mate this year. Time will tell, but it seems so simple and logical to me that it may not happen. Politics makes for strange bedfellows you know.

On the Democratic ledger my bet is that JFK is just stalling for time, and trying to build some excitement about his VP pick when in all reality it can’t be anyone else but John Edwards. As in all cases, should the head man lose, the VP loser has a shot at the 2008 sweepstakes against Hillary.

Then there’s the third VP who was actually made known Monday. Ralph Nader selected losing California governor candidate, Peter Camejo. Once again, this was a no-brainer. What Peter brings to the table is: a potential Green Party endorsement, twenty-four state presidential ballot access, and a shot at the Reform Party’s ballot access. In essence, bad news for JFK who thought Nader would not get on very many state ballots thereby nullifying his impact.

So, one down, two to go. Three men who can and will have a major impact on their party’s ticket. From my vantage point, Bush has the most to gain of all three- if he picks RUDY!

THE ‘POLITICS’ OF POLITICS

June 20, 2005

Ronald Prescott Reagan, first son of Ronald Reagan, says that Nancy will not address the Republican Convention this sumemr unless Bush drops his opposition to stem-cell research. Obviously, Nancy wanted to see this happen due to the disease that eventually took the life of the ex-president.

Ronald Reagan was against stem cell research himself, so how can she take this stance? Well, it’s the ‘politics’ of politics! It’s often times called COMPROMISE! We want something and someone else wants something as well. So, I’ll trade three of what I have for two of what you have- if I want what you have bad enough.

What’s conscience got to do with it? Nothing, if you want something bad enough. So, how bad does Bush need Nancy’s approval? Isn’t it really dependent upon where he is in the polls come August? Or, could it be how much the politicians think her endorsement would make on the voters as a whole?

You probably already knew this, but who wants to admit it?

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

June 19, 2005

America faces many problems. We have a staggering federal deficit, a catastrophic trade deficit, and corporate debt beyond imagination. But the greatest deficit that we face today is a DAD DEFICIT!

The future of our nation hangs in the balance mainly because of absentee, deficit dads. Deadbeat dads who divorce the woman who gave life to their children and then refuses to financilly support them.

It’s been that way since ancient times. The apostle Paul reflected on this by saying we have ten thousand teachers but few fathers (I Cor. 4). It’s only grown worse in the last 2,000 years. It’s become a national tragedy in the last twenty years.

My three sons took me out to dinner last night. Today we have lunch with my wife’s father. I no longer have that privilege as my father died two years ago. How about you? Will you call, spend time with your dad? Will you be a real dad and help erase the dad deficit that threatens our nations very soul?

May you truly have a Happy Fathers Day!

DEPRAVITY & MINDLESSNESS

June 18, 2005

It wasn’t one of the world’s best days. Yes, we’ve had worse: many! The beheading of Paul Johnson though was just another reminder of how low mankind (some on our planet) has sunk. It’s one thing to hear about the fact; however, it’s another to see the gruesome pictures.

I didn’t see earlier pictures of the two Americans that have been beheaded. I did see the three pictures of Paul Johnson and it’s unimaginable the depths to which man can treat another man. I can’t fathom the fear, the pain, and the thoughts Paul went through as his captors began the attack. And then there’s his family. How do they cope?

Evil is alive and well in our world and has been: before the foundation of the earth. Al-Qaeda does not have a lock on the market, but they sure get their name towards the top of the list.

As I write this, some news outlets are saying that Paul Johnson’s killer, and Saudi al-Qaeda leader, Abulaziz al-Moqrin, has been killed (shortly after deposing of Paul Johnson’s body). What is a fact is that Saudi Arabia is now living with the fear that they have created. Can they now turn around and kill that which they created?

One of the things that I have written about before is the fact that one of the worst things that could happen to the world and America, would be to see the Princes of the house of Saud defeated: as bad as they are.

We need to remember what happened in Iran when the Shah was ousted (as bad as he was) in January of 1979. What-who would replace the princes that now rule Saudi Arabia? Sometimes, getting a NEW thing isn’t a GOOD thing. Are you listening America? Domestically as well.

CONVERGENCE & CATASTROPHE?

June 17, 2005

I was glancing over my June calendar today. What have I yet to do this month? What should I give up on entirely? As we approach the END of any period of time, I always ask myself, what kind of a “kick” do I have left? Is the prize worth the price? In ten days we mark the halfway point of the year.

And then finally, how can I use the END of the period or season to take advantage of the OPEN of the new period (month, quarter, year).

Well, my “events” calendar suddenly opened my eyes to two converging events. Like two rivers that get close to each other as they flood, one could become two! Of course, both rivers could stay within their banks and all is well. If not, the entire landscape can be changed- forever.

Come June 30th, we will see the hand-over of power to the local interim Iraqi government. Of course there will be fireworks leading up to that event that’s just a little over ten days away now (the number for testing). On that same day the FMOC (Federal Open Market Committee) will have their next meeting, at which time they will make a decision as to how much they will raise the Federal funds rate: not if.

These two events could greatly affect each other. Iraq & Greenspan could spell big time trouble for the stock market, investments, and the overall economic outlook generally. So, it will be interesting to see just what happens over the next ten days: actually just seven business days. I wonder what mysteries they will hold?
