A SPIRITUAL COMPASS- Part # 6

July 22, 2005

I’m going to take a partial leap of faith and break with the norm. Why? Whenever the masses form an opinion, it usually works out just the opposite. I’m going to explore the political realm for this mystical conclusion.

The latest polls have just revealed that Kerry & Bush are neck and neck. Logic says that Kerry will come out ahead after the Democratic convention, maybe by 6-9 points. Then the Republicans will have their go at grand-standing, and the race will be back to even at the Labor Day mark. The last sixty days of the campaign will be a slugfest ending up with another cliff-hanger like 2000. Some Congressmen are asking for the U.N. to come in and supervise. WRONG!

I don’t think it will be close. I embrace that stance predicated on three impressions. First, I think the debates will see one of the candidates make a major mistake, opening the door for a run-away. Secondly, I think some event out of everyone’s control will impact the citzenry (probably related to terorism, but not necessarily).

Then finally, I have observed that religious wars can last hundreds of years (we’re in one now), but spiritual wars are short-lived. I think we’ll see the demonic forces overstep their authority (unknowingly) and take a ten-count!

Take it from the guy who lost at Waterloo, Napoleon Bonaparte (another Frenchman) who said, “There are only two forces in the world, the sword and the spirit. In the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit.” And in that quote is found the one who will win in November.

A SPIRITUAL COMPASS- Part # 5

July 21, 2005

The 9-11 Commission is going to release their long awaited report at 10:30 Thursday (EST). It is supposed to say that neither Bush nor Clinton were to blame. Of course not. It was an “institutional failure.”

It all makes sense to me and falls in line with no-fault divorce. If anyone is to blame for a failed marriage it would be the environment that we live in: all that TV soap opera stuff.

Prior to 1880 thre were no chairs or degress of psychology in our colleges. But once they got the ball rolling it was all over with. For the past 100 years there has been no need for any spiritual accountability. Forget that Christian concept of a need for salvation. Don’t bother with that Jewish sin thing. And forget about any Catholic confessions.

Behind the natural curtain of life is a voice calling out to us. Don’t take any responsibility for anything. Nothing is our fault. We are but innocent pawns in the cosmic game of life. At worst, it’s a dog-eat-dog world so bite first!

G. Stanley Hall summed it up by saying that “We are all inwardly connected to a wise, benignant, and energetic power.” There’s no need to rely upon God, others, or anyone but SELF. And if something bad happens, it’s probably because of a fault in the design of our hardware (brain). Again, not our fault.

What a world! Soon we’ll no longer have a need for jail, prisons, or for that matter lawyers! Opps, we’ve gone over the line now!

WHAT PATRIOTIC ACT?

July 21, 2005

It sure is hard being a progressive liberal these days and down right dreadful to be a way-left-leaning one. The second bombing in two weeks is going to change habits not just in England, but most of the free world.

Forget the fact that this second round was a miserable failure: not one person was killed. There was hardly and property damage. The worst damage had to happen to the four guys carrying the rusksack as they call it. The important thing is that it showed how vulnerable our society is to any groups of nuts and flakes.

Those who felt like the Patriot Act was bad because it would limit our freedoms: you haven’t seen anything yet! It was enacted barEly a month and a half after the 9-11 bombings, designed to give law enforcement more leverage over the bad guys.

Of course every group left of Bush screamed about how awful it was: taking away all of our rights and freedoms. Barbara Boxer was a major detractor but when asked to show or give one case where the law abused a freedom, she was silent.

Well now, after the London second round of bombings, we’re going to see some random checking of bags before you enter a mass transit system. Cry and belly-ache all you want, the police are going to check you out! In fact, New York police chief, Raymond Kelly is telling his men in blue to be on the lookout for people who are sweating.

Has he read the paper about the heat wave griping, Phoenix, Denver, and Chicago? Does he realize it’s summer? Man, talk about the Patriot Act? Talk about paranoia gone wild!

PS. In case you missed it, the U.S. House voted 257-171 to extend the Patriot Act, while most Democrats voiced concerns about a loss of their civil liberties. Good timing you terrorists of England.

A SPIRITUAL COMPASS- Part #4

July 20, 2005

This “series” actually began Sunday with the title, “A Walk On The Other Side”. A reader sent me an e-mail this morning asking where # 1 was: that’s where it is.

The phrase “The Other Side” has so many applications. I am using it in reference to a mirror. What we see in the natural is actually being mirrored from the spiritual: so I believe. The fact that we’re seeing so much strife, bickering, and division tells me that there are intense battles going on in the spirit realm. Much like the “sun cycles”, there is a “flare-up” when SOMETHING GREAT is at stake.

In times of peace, the spiritual powers that be are neutralizing each other, resting, or see no risk to each other’s world. When something is at risk or to be gained, it’s THEN that the battle begins. I believe America particularly is in one of those battles-times.

I doubt that JFK realizes the truth he speaks when he says that this year’s presidential election is the most critical one of our times. I imagine he’s speaking that only because he’s running. How terrible of me to think that, eh? Hillary will probably say that in 2008 as well. Not to pick on Democrats, you’ve probably heard Shawn Hannity say that as well.

So, a question that I think we all have to ask ourselves, be we Democrats, Republicans, Green Party, or Nader-its, is what’s it all about? Why is now such a critical spiritual time? Once you go there, it can get really dicey. Staying out of the “conspiracy theory” huddle is not easy. When you enter the “spirit-world” (did we ever leave it?) you encounter loss of self control and other faculties.

But, in some cases that’s not all bad. Hasta manana para capitulo cinco.

A SPIRITUAL COMPASS- PART # 3

July 19, 2005

America is greatly divided: what’s new? The church is even more divided. America has more than 7,200 denominations: each thinks only they have the truth. The world is destructing under it’s two major religions: Christianity and Islam. So, what’s the answer? Is there one?

I think the Kabbalists had it right more than 2,000 years ago when they formulated the “superstring” theory that theoretical physics is just now proclaiming. But that’s another story.

We have divided our senses like everything else. But is it all that strange to smell color, feel music, hear a flower, and taste a sound? Is it possible that man has compartmentalized (even bfore Bill Clinton) beyond nature’s intent? Aren’t we as humans to be naturally synesthetic? Mozart didn’t hear music, he saw it! How does one do that?

Is there really a multidimensional matrix? Was the movie all that far off? Is there a modern-day Neo in the house? And the point of all this is?

We have divided and put at odds that which nature and God meant to be in harmony. The Universe is a symphony of vibrating strings that we have severed in or smugness and false estimation of who we are. There is a way forward but it’s accomplished by gong back- way back. He began with the end in mind. Unless we discover and come into agreement with that end, we will only struggle and know pain.

BACK TO THE BUSH LEAGUE!

July 18, 2005

I’m talking out of both sides of my mouth at the same time here.

Obviously there’s “W” as in #43: the prez! It amazes me how much air time is being given to Plamegate. For me, the press is grasping for straws. Of course they are furious that they have one of their very own sitting in jail. In fact, the NYT took some ink and paper to tell us how difficult it is for Judith Miller to be sitting in jail because the food doesn’t make her tummy feel well. Can you feel my pain?

The “Bush League” is the press going after Bush one the one hand, becasue he is Bush. The other Bush League is spending so much time on what I believe is trivia and nothing more than space to fill an otherwise slow summer as far as news is concerned. Had the Discovery launch come off as it was supposed to, this issue would have fallen off the front pages.

Bottom line. Bush has said that if anyone has broken the law, is accused of a crime, he will fire them. So, let’s get on with some real news. Let’s see if we can get to Double-A League, then on to Triple-A, and maybe one day to civility and the Majors.

A SPIRITUAL COMPASS- PART # 2

July 18, 2005

Generally speaking, you can tell things are going to work out if there is UNITY. It’s when a nation is divided that you can smell trouble cooking.

There is a unity that’s not good and of course I’m talking about any kind of dictatorship. However, most political scientists would prefer having to deal with one man rather than several. What we see in America is the continual slide into US vs. THEM. It’s the RED states versus the BLUE ones. America continues to try and hold together a two-party system, but the antagonism is so vitriolic that it’s no longer a civil environment within which to debate.

What we see in Iraq is every GROUP for himself (women aren’t allowed in the Islamic battle). We even see the unraveling of Arafat’s regime as the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade is now overtly challenging Arafat and burning down buildings in protest.

Putin seems to have scared off the remaining capitalists in Russia and he is consolidating his power, but then, everyone knows he is the man, so you just have one enemy to deal with.

In the kingdom of darkness, it’s man against man, group against group, and a continual trade-off of lives. There is no peace where evil reigns. I don’t know about you but I sense less peace in America. It must mean we’re about to see something major happen because in the end, only good wins. It’s that interim period that’s tough to deal with, but deal with it we must.

WHAT ARE WE PAYING FOR?

July 17, 2005

I don’t know about you, but I think our Senators and Congressmen are grossly over paid- for what we’re getting for the buck. I have no problem paying nearly $200,000 plus unbelievable perks IF the Congressman is doing their job.

Actually the Speaker of the house gets $203,000 and majority leaders in both houses get $175,000. The perks are so many and numerous that they actually exceed the value of the base salary. So, what are we getting in return?

Unfortunately what we get more often than not is pure partisan politics: on both sides of the aisle. If one side is not attacking someone from the other party, they are back home glad-handing, or out attending fund-raisers for the next election. In the ase of the House, fund-raising never stops as they are up for election every two years.

I wonder what out life-society would be like if those we pay to represent us, had to work for our benefit in a positive way, and could not engage in personality trashing for starters. It seems to me that politics (in both parties) has become so negative, civility and rationality are subject to becoming endangered species.

The real danger here though is that habits and behaviors become so engrained in the culture that change for the positive is near impossible. We can hope and we can send an email to our Congressman- or woman. With a Supreme Court vacancy to be filled, time is of the essence!

A WALK ON THE OTHER SIDE!

July 16, 2005

You might call this a revised version of the Twilight Zone. But on the other hand, it’s not quite as far out there as the political landscape. I’m going to offer some spiritual thoughts on these times we live in. The Matrix implied we live in more than one dimension. The movie, the Thirteenth Floor, implied yet another layer-dimension.

Shakespeare said it long ago, “There are more things in heaven and earth than man has dreamt of in his philosophy.” So, from the fantasy of film to the elite of practical thinkers we’re hearing that there’s more to life than meets the eye. Many have said it- “Nothing is as it seems.” So what’s going on in 2004- what’s REALLY happening?

To say that I have the answers would be folly at least, and misplaced arrogance at worst. But, to offer an opinion shouldn’t create too much of a stir.

I believe that there are spiritual forces that tolerate each other, keep a balance most of the time throughout history. Periodically, these invisible forces (for most people- not all) engage each other in fierce warfare with mankind being the pawns on the chess table of life.

I believe we’re in just such a time. The veil between the seen and the unseen world was pulled back some 2,000 years ago, but few have cared to take a peek. Most are not interested, while others don’t believe in a second dimension. The etheric realm just has to take a back seat to making the mortgage payment, and keeping the credit card bullies off our backs.

Over the next few days (weeks?), I am going to dive a bit deeper into what I see is behind the veil, the headlines, motivations, and philosophies driving today’s news. Yep, you might call it a walk on the other side. An Art Bell I am not, but could there be more than one of him?

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FAST BALL?

July 15, 2005

It’s amazing to me how in such a boring game as today’s major league baseball, that guys can react to a ball being thrown at them between 90 and 100 miles per hour, without fear, and then take a swipe at that fast ball. And hit .300+. Of course there aren’t that many guys that can do it. And have you ever thought what a major difference one hit in ten can make?

It’s the difference in making $500,000 a year and $5,000,000 a year. In most cases even more. Hit that ball two out of ten times and you’re on the bubble for Triple A with a .200 batting average. Just get one more hit in ten and you’re batting .300 and in for some serious money!

But to do either you not only have to see the ball leave the pitchers hand at 95mph, you also have to see it drop out of sight (a curve ball) at 85mph. The media and the world got a taste of that curve ball this week.

Rhenquist was going to retire, but then says no, he’s staying! Four Senators urged O’Conner to stay on due to Rhenquist’s resignation but now they have egg on their face. Discovery was going to blast off, but then nope not this week. Dennis was going to be one of the worst hurricanes ever, but thankfully not. Rove was being goaded to resign for Plamegame, but maybe the shoe will fall on the Democrats instead.

I love it when what we think gets thrown for a curve and the expected gives birth to he unexpected. There were a lot of curve balls thrown at the world this past week. Enough to make a guy want to just get that fast ball down the middle- regardless of how fast!

ANOTHER DAY OF RECKONING

July 15, 2005

It has taken years; however, the day of sentencing has finally arrived. Will she or won’t she (both she’s). Will Martha Stewart do some real jail time? Will U.S. District Judge Miriam Cedarbaum have mercy on Martha, or will she send her to the slammer?

Las Vegas is betting that the Homemaker Diva will get a year. That’s a pretty easy bet since Federal sentencing guidelines say 10-16 months. Then there are all those other questions such as WHEN will she have to start serving her term, will she be allowed to stay out while appealing, and which facility will she be assigned to.

Regardless of the above questions, you’d have to say that Friday will be a low-water mark for Martha, much like last week was for Ken Lay. And, much like last week was for Lea Fastow. I am sure that by now, Lea is “getting the picture” of what her next year will be like. For the millionaires who have always lived the “good life”, prison is a major jolt to the psyche.

Hopefully Martha has had tea with Leona Helmsley (remember her?) and gotten some insights to what life is like at the minimum security prison at Danbury, Connecticut (Martha’s most probable new zip code). Leona did her time there and survived to come back out and run her hotel. No one really likes the prison garb or the pay (40 cents an hour), and worse yet those communal showers.

We ALL have our day of reckoning. Unfortunately, it’s not a singular day, but plural- DAYS! How we handle those days, how we play the hand that fate deals us, and how we respond to our own moral failures, determines how the rest of life really works out.

FROM EAST TO WEST IT’S UP!

July 14, 2005

Let’s take a break from the political-cultural commentary and look at the economic picture here in America. In spite of what Alan Greenspan has to say about inflation (that it’s under control and low), I say we’re headed for some very high interest rates in 2005 to offset the rampant inflation. And I mean rampant!

On the East coast, apartments in Manhattan now sell for an AVERAGE of more than $1,000,000.00: $47,938 more than one mil in fact. While Greenspan has the Federal funds rate set at 1.25%, NY apartment sales increased 20.9% in the last twelve months! Something has to give.

On the West coast, the median price of an existing home today is $491,000! That’s a used home folks. And that price is up 32.7% over a year ago. Just up the road in Los Angeles, such homes are selling for $414,000, up 32.3% from last year. The stock bubble of the 90′s has just transferred to the real estate bubble of this decade. It too will pop!

So, tell me. In light of 20-33% increase in housing, in light of major percentage increase in bread, milk, meat, flour, etc., how can Alan say there is no inflation? Oh yes, and did I mention that the price of oil hit $41 today, and that the price we pay for a gallon of gasoline is headed back up- from New York to LA?

Inflation is now systemic and it’s only a matter of time before it shows up in a supermarket in your neighborhood.

COMING TO YOUR CITY SOON?

July 14, 2005

I think it’s the grace of God that has allowed us to not be hit by some radical, I’ve got this grudge against the world attitude, suicide bomber. It was a wake up call for Britain in that these were their own citizens. The terrorists (The London rag chooses to call them bombers instead of terrorists as they don’t want to insult them!) were locals, some not yet grown up (whatever that word means). One was a teacher or disabled children in Beeson. So, he evens things out by creating some disabled adults?

And then there was this eighteen year old Hasib Hussain who used to work at a Fish & Chips store: can’t get more British than that! It’s one thing when the terrorists are from an Arab land, embrace Islam, and let everyone know that they think Osama should be made Time’s Man Of The Year. But, when they are the boys next door that baby sat your kids last weekend, now what?

Now, the New York police are warning the public to be on the lookout for passengers with back packs. Yeah right. Paranoia is about to reign supreme. I’m not against all the warnings, they are desperately needed. I am
afraid what we really need though goes a lot deeper, requires a lot more sacrifices, and isn’t anything we want to embrace.

And then there’s China, as if we’d forgotten the really BIG enemy (a non terrorist of course).

IS AMERICA ALL THAT BAD?

July 13, 2005

Sometimes I shake my head and ask myself if I’m really hearing. I pinch myself just to make sure I am alive. Could some of my life that I think is conscious, really be sleep-walking, a dream?

Okay, so I guess I could quickly write-off Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamanei’ s statement that we’re to blame for the beheadings! He’s really a nut-case, right? Who in their right mind could justify taking individuals at random, beheading them, and then blame it on the U.S. somehow. I mean they are killing their own people- Islamists!

Then there’s Jadakiss who has his new song out that asks why did George Bush bring down the Twin Towers? Say what? I guess in his world it’s whoever is the most ludicrous (not to be confused with Ludacris, the performer) that gets the attention. When you consider
the lyrics to Eminem’s songs, you gotta get “out there” to get any attention. Who can be more insane than the last performer?

If you want to make a list on the short-falls of America, it would be pretty LONG list. But if you placed that list along side any other nation, ours would look short in comparison. All those people who complain about America, that are on the outside, are really desirous of having what it is we have (less the bad stuff, which isn’t possible).

All those people who live inside America that are complaining, don’t want to leave because they know some place else is worse. Let me acknowledge a minor point. There are some places, that some people would be better suited for, and I’m for the government buying them a one-way ticket. Love you know!
