AND NOW THE NEW QUESTION

August 31, 2005

As some of the renegade residents cast a bad image on New Orleans, one has to wonder where all of this is headed. Anarchy up close and personal.

It’s only a few (I pray), but the looting, burglary, and lawlessness is making big headlines around the world. You see more and more people aasking if this isn’t the judgment of God. Only God knows. What we know is that people are shooting at helicopters that were trying to evacuate people from hospitals. People were shooting at boaters who were going in to rescue people on roof tops. Others are shooting cops and the streets have seen pockets of people with AK47’s looking for trouble.

Martial law has been implemented; however, the criminals still rule. Ten thousand National Guard troops from around the U.S. are coming in to restore order. Bush is calling all of the military men now serving in Iraq, from Louisiana, back home. Black Hawk helicopters came in after other helicopters were shot at near the Superdome.

A city of 500,000 people is no longer. The total evacuation is underway. The bowl where New Orleans resides is full of a soup with a potential for diseases incalculable. Bodies are seen everywhere. What will the death toll be? My guess is, much larger than 9-11!

Where will the 500,000 people go? How will they live? And ultimately what is going to be the impact economically? Could this be the straw that breaks the economic back of America? Who can pay $6 a gallon for gas, because that is happening in many places. Ten cities cannot get fuel for airplanes causing flight cancellations.

The largest wall of water ever in history to hit the U.S. mainland came as a result of Katrina (27 feet). Now, the largest financial wall is crumbling as well. The real question is how far will the dominos fall, and how loud will be the crash?

STRIKE THREE & YOU ARE OUT!

August 31, 2005

I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next two days in New York, but unless there is something that no one sees at this time, I’d say Bush has just taken the inside track as this election rounds the fourth turn, and heads for the straight-away.

Again, so much can happen in the remaining 62 days that is totally out of our control; however, it looks to me as though Bush is the man that will run-away with this race. I said a six months ago that I didn’t feel this election would be close. I wasn’t betting on either Kerry or Bush- just that it wouldn’t be close.

But with Bush getting an unusual pre-convention bounce, it’s beginning to look like the liberal press is going to have a hard time over the next two months. It will be even doubly hard on Hollywood. Sorry Barbara! Again, the Republican Convention is only half-way over, but I think it’s been a right, left, right punch. Or switching metaphors, three strikes and you are OUT (Kerry).

McCain threw a slider down the gut last night for strike one. He was nice to Kerry; however, his pitch came across as deadly as it was smooth. Right behind the slider came a fast ball that caught the outside part of the plate. Rudy came at Kerry hard and fast, appealing to the “outsiders” of the Republican party.

Tuesday night, Arnold came out of nowhere with a savage curve ball. Would he truly be a Republican, would he really support Bush, and would he really go for the strike out? Without a doubt, the Terminator retired the batter (Kerry) and brought the crowd to their feet! Hey, he may be a ‘B’ actor, but he’s an ‘A’ politician.

The jury has yet to hear the closing arguments, but as I’m reading the faces of the jurors (electorate), I think this case has been decided. I think this game is over. With the exception of those five points I made on August 18, which are still in play, it’s beginning to look like Kerry has struck out.

THE NIGHTMARE ONLY GROWS

August 30, 2005

Some 23,000 people are in the process of being transported from the smelly, broken down, and un-air conditioned Superdome to the Houston Astrodome! So, that will take care of 23,000 refugees (literally). But what about the other 75,000 that need to be evacuated?

What about the 400,000 that did leave but now can’t come back? And as the mayor said this morning, it might be as much as 3-4 MONTHS before people can come back. And when they do come back- what to? I imagine that estimate is a little on the long side, but what it does say is that Christmas will definitely be different for some 500,000 New Orleans residents.

This catastrophe has now risen to the level of being America’s worst natural disaster ever. News commentators inside the city are just at a loss for words to describe what life is like without ice, air conditioning, water, gas, or food. And even hope is beginning to run thin for many.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES!

August 30, 2005

As I ponder the opening of the Republican Convention, look at the 125,000 protesters that hit the streets of New York Sunday, and consider all of the rhetoric from thousands of politicians, I have come to a major revelation! Are you ready for this?

We all come to the table of life with built in presuppositions. We all wear colored glasses of some sort. None are without prejudice, unless you claim you aren’t, and then you just proved you are. Say what? So, is there a “filter” that we can use that would help in the discerning and disecting political spiel? As any good attorney will tell you, don’t ask a question to which you don’t know what the answer is. So, here’s my answer.

There are those who are living in 9-10 and those that are living in 9-11 (and beyond). You see, the world changed on 9-11 and our world changed greatly. The degree to which it changed can’t be over-stated. We must wear 9-11 glasses to see the world as it truly is.

Unfortunately, there are many who are living a delusional life, pretending that we can do that-n-that which might have worked on 9-10, but have no basis in reality the next day. In one day, a person’s whole world can be turned upside down! What a difference a day does make indeed.

AND NOW WE SEE…………

August 30, 2005

The next day after Katrina left the Gulf Coast area, it was finally becoming clear just how awful the tragedy was going to be. Monday evening people were saying that New Orleans had missed the worst. On Tuesday, the question was beginning to be asked, if we missed the worst, who can fathom what that might be.

Who Wants Cheaper Auto Insurance?

As the bowl that the city of New Orleans sits in began to fill up with water, hospitals started air lifting people out as generators were failing, the local newspaper closed up shop, and Bourbon Street, which was being hailed as safe and secure began seeing the water rising, a dark picture was becoming visible.

Finally, it became obvious- Martial law would need to be implemented. Looting was rampant, no electricity for yet another dark night seemed hard to comprehend. Phone service (including wireless) was soundless too. Fuel was near impossible to find- at any price.

And while the Super Dome seemed to be a safe haven during the storm, it was now becoming a stink-hole as toilets went uncleaned and the stench in the air drove people outside. So much help is needed but who can get IN to the city with so many bridges destroyed or dangerous. While trucks and supplies wait outside the city, the water keeps rising with some estimates saying 85% of New Orleans is under water.

How many days before food and fresh water is available? How many weeks before kids can go back to school? How many months before electricity is totally restored? And while no one wants to go there, how long before another hurricane returns? Can’t happen? Ask Florida who has seen SIX of them in a year!

Now we see- the face of devastation and man’s foolishness that he can out-wit mother nature. Now we see that those who have been warning government officials that the city was really NOT SAFE if a hurricane was to hit, were not just crying Chicken Little. But now that we do see, what will be done once the catastrophe begins to pass?

UNFORTUNATE SIGN OF THE TIMES

August 29, 2005

My heart goes out to all those that have suffered severe losses as a result of Katrina, and especially those whom another day will reveal gave up their life itself. It’s just too early today to get into areas that were devastated and account for everyone the day of the hurricane. Katrina will surely take more live in the Gulf Coast than she did in Florida.

Who Wants Cheaper Auto Insurance?

Having said that, I must say that I wonder how it is that we have come to this place where a person like Shepherd Smith even thinks about asking the question that he did: “We’ve spent so much money on protecting ourselves from terrorism and yet we’ve done nothing to make New Orleans better protected from such destruction.

He was referencing why more work had not been done to increase the levees and embankments to protect the people. Say what? Could it be because the people didn’t want to pay what it would cost to have it done?

When is it our choice, our risk, and therefore our pain to absorb when we build out homes in a fish bowl to start? When do we have to take responsibility for building a home below sea-level, or building a home along the coast of any ocean or gulf that is susceptible to hurricanes? We are going to become the most cynical of people if we think it’s the government’s responsibility to make us whole, keep us from harm, or guarantee us no pain.

It’s no surprise that we would deny it openly if asked; however, when the rubber hits the road and practicality-reality takes over after a tragedy in our life, we find ourselves looking to someone else to make us whole.

Listen, there’s only ONE person who can make us whole and unfortunately, we keep banning Him from everything these days.

LET THE PROTESTATIONS BEGIN!

August 28, 2005

The Republican Convention is ready to kick off; however, the protestators (can you say anarchists?) aren’t waiting for someone to sound the opening gavel. Parks have been littered with debris, memorbilia, and sleeping bags. Tens of thousands of bikers have clogged city streets and arrests have already begun en mass.

Whatever you thought of the Democratic Convention in the sixties will be nothing compared to what we’ll hear and see in New York this week. The cost of freedom is high. Tens of thousands of cops will be needed to watch over the “freedom lovers”. I am sure that the liberal press will give more air-time attention to those outside the Convention than they do to those inside. Ah, but that’s another story.

Speaking of protests. When will we get a clue about the designs and intents of the Muslim terrorists? Two French journalists have been taken hostage in Iraq. What’s new? How about the reason!

You see, they want France to abandon the law that was put in place this year, that bans the wearing of head scarfs! Say What? Yep! Even the Muslim terrorists see SECULAR RELIGION while most Christians don’t. Again, that’s another story.

However, the point in the Iraq-France saga is that the “war” has many faces but one of the largest is all about RELIGION! Whether it’s in Iraq or New York, the common denominator for this week (and beeyond) is SECULARISM (man is the measure) vs. TRADITIONALISTS (God is the measure- of course “you” god).

Let the protests continue!

WAIT, WATCH, AND PRAY!

August 28, 2005

I along with you am focused on the little Hurricane that seemed to start so innocently near the Bahamas last week. There was no build up watching it traverse the Atlanta. It seemigly began just off the Florida coast but it killed more people than all the most recent hurricanes combined.

And now Katrina is flying across the Gulf with a dead aim on New Orleans. There could not be a worse scenario considering the geography, which includes a city built below sea level and a half dozen oil refineries.

So, I with you, just wait, watch, and pray that Monday will somehow bring a scenario different than what is being proclaimed.

MORE THAN JUST A GOOD MOVIE!

August 27, 2005

Hopefully, you saw the Tom Cruise movie, The Last Samurai. More than a great acting job by Tom, and more than another A+ job by Hans Zimmer in composing the music, it was a prophetic movie about varied societies- and ours.

Japan was at a cross-road. Would they move into the modern, secularist realm, or would they embrace their long-held traditions of the Samurai. In case you missed it, Japan opted to be a model for Canada and go the secular route.

I believe it was Monday of this past week in which Bll O’Reilly blasted Canada (again) over their poor showing in the Olympics. He compared Australia’s (now 44 medals, ranking 4th) outstanding representation to Canada’s 9 medals (ranking 21st). Considering the fact that Canada has a population of 27 million comapred to 19 million for Australia, Bill draws the conclusion that Canada is raising wimps!

More seriously, the difference between the two countries is their approach to life. Australia embraces individualism- Canada socialism.

The race for president comes down to the above two situations. Kerry-Edwards are dyed-in-the-wool SECULARISTS in sheep’s clothing. The two largest demographic groups within the Democratic party are Catholics (18%) and Secularists (17%).

As for me, I’d rather die as a Samauri or a wimpy traditionalist than live in the land of penguins. Have you read that book? Peacocks In The Land Of Penguins?

TOTALLY DIFFERENT HEROS!!!

August 26, 2005

There is no doubt in my mind that the two strongest and most influential entities in America are not the Presidency and the Congress: they were!

Today the real power resides in the courts, and especially the Supreme Court which is why we are seeing so much acrimony from all sides when a vacancy comes up. And, I am afraid the Roberts nomination is the first of several battles over the next few years. And, each one will get more antagonistic!!

Then there’s that other powerful entity: the press! I am so thankful for the internet. At least I have choices as to the NEWS that I deem is actually news and not spin. Bill O’Reilly came along at the right time: a time when people wanted a “no spin” zone. Now, if we can get that with a “no arrogant” zone as well.

Why should one person in 200 million get the amount of attention as the Natalee Holloway story has? Finally some news sources have decided to drop it! Get a clue Fox News! And then there’s the so-called “peace mom”. Peace mom? For who? She’s brought no peace to her children, no peace to her husband who’s filed for divorce, and no peace for her relatives who shun her.

But, because the press has the power and because the press hates George Bush, they have made her an overnight hero. What makes her get so much time out of 200 million people? Such heros we can do without!

ELECTORAL COUNT UPDATE

August 26, 2005

On August 16th (you can go back in the commentary history for references), I showed the electoral count at 316 for Kerry and 222 for Bush. We’ll, here we are ten days later, and three Swift Boat ads down the road.

Last night I did my calculations, looked at a couple of dozen polls and came to the conclusion that it was now Kerry 289 and Bush 229 with 50 undecided: too clsoe to call. So, Bush is gaining. But that’s not the whole picture. As I looked at the latest LA Times poll this morning (not your Republican-friendly poll), they highlighted three battle-ground states.

According to them, Bush has pulled ahead in Missouri (11), Wisconsin (10), and Ohio (20). If they are right, then that would add 41 more electoral votes to my total. Add 41 to the 229 that I have, and VOILA- 270: the magical number needed to win the presidency. Missouri was one of the swing states in my 50 above.

Ahh, but that’s where things are BEFORE the Convention. We’ve got a weekend of Olympics to close out, and then on to New York come Monday. And as we know, anything can happen. I expect New York to be a feeding frenzy of anarchists, flakes, and nuts: and hopefully no terrorists. But these days? Who knows!

And by the way, after three days of denials, Russia is now saying there “might” have been terrorism involved in the two plane crashes. Duh!

AFTER A DECADE OF DENIAL

August 26, 2005

There comes a time when politics has to stand down so that a safe life can stand up. For a decade now, first the Democrats, and more recently the Republicans, have catered to the Hispanic vote in America by looking the other way on illegal immigration.

Both parties have done everything they can to promise any kind of pie in the sky that would get the Hispanic vote. But, starting with 9-11, the glaring problem began to come to light. We have a totally open and vulerable border to every terrorist in the world. And while our eyes were on the passenger list of airlines coming in to New York, terrorists of every ilk were simply walking across the border from either Mexico or Candada into the U.S.

Enough!

First New Mexico, then Arizona, and now it seems even our Homeland Security chief has opened his eyes. The truth is, both political parties realize there is more danger in doing nothing and appeasing the Hispanic community than there is to cracking down. Nuevo Laredo has become the Colombian murder capital at our back door. You know it’s bad when even Virgina is asking for an emergency order to handle the illegal immigrants.

So, now that it politically correct to address the problem, I expect the gloves to come off and illegal immigration will be a hot topic for the next 3 years- big time!

THE GAME OF POLITICAL CHESS

August 25, 2005

It doesn’t matter if we’re talking Russia or America, the game is played out in the same fashion- just in a different language.

Even though there are reports that one of the pilots of the downed Russian commercial aiplane sent a distress call about a hi-jacking, so far Russia says they can find no evidence of terrorism. Deny, and deny and maybe it will all go away until after the election this Sunday. Maybe not!

Here states-side, the pawns were out front trying to clear a path for the bishops, and knights. Max made a photo-op to Crawford to deliver a “Stop the Swiss Boat Ads” letter to George Bush. What Max got was a greeting party of Bush pawns with their letter telling Max to go back and tell Kerry that he can’t have it both ways.

The bishops (Rove on Fox Wednesday night) we’re sitting idle. Howard Dean was trying to show that he’s not a pawn, but maybe a castle by telling Bush he should be ashamed. Good luck on the hoped for image change. MoveOn.Org is doing just that while the Swiftees don’t seem to be intimidated by their recent claim-to-fame rise as being authors of the #1 Book Seller now.

Michael Moore’s pawn status has seemingly been taken out
of the game. His movie did take out a few of the Bush pawns, but the game is still on. As we get down to the final two months of the game, you’re going to see some of the big pieces on the table take a hit. And eventually only one King will reign come November 3rd- hopefully!

WE’VE HIT A NEW LOW- AGAIN!

August 24, 2005

I heard this story a few days ago and thought it no big deal, but the more I learn about it, the worse I feel for where we as a nation and a people are headed. This is political correctness totally run amuck!

Dr. Bennett told one of his patients that she was over weight and that obesity was one of the fastest growing killers in America. So, she complained the the New Hampshire Medical Board. And back in New England, where ultra-liberalism resigns, the baord has forced Bennett to send her a letter of apology. For what? For proving the point that…YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

But, in today’s age where we must appease everyone, especially the bureaucrats, the medical board also wants the doctor to sign a letter saying that he is a “disruptive physician”. He’s disruptive?

Those who eat like a pig, destroy their health, and then turn to the rest of us to support their medical expenses are the disruptive citizens. It appears that truth, even to the degree of helping a person not get sick, isn’t allowable if it offends a person’s feelings.
