DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN?
August 14, 2005
Sometimes I think fate just likes to mess with us. Could she (fate is a she isn’t she?) be testing what we’ve learned? If so, I’d have to say that we’ve gone to school on her in this instance- this instance being a hurricane in Florida.
You see it was 1992 and Bush was struggling with an economy that Clinton said was bad. Hurricane Andrew slams into Florida and all hell breaks loose. FEMA is slow to get in to help people, and the economy takes a 0.05% GDP hit, just when it didn’t need that.
Well, here we are twelve years later and Bush (a different one) is battling JFK, and what some think is a sluggish economy. However, things are different. FEMA is on the ground within hours. Help is immediate and there are two Bush’s helping people: the governor and the president.
Now we’ll have to wait and see if it makes a difference in the election- this time around.
CINDY & CRAWFORD: HOT NEWS!
August 14, 2005
Let me say up front that I am sorry that Cindy Sheehan lost her son. I can truly empathize, having lost my oldest son at a very young age (17) as well. That he was killed in a car accident and not in a war doesn’t reallt change that much- to my way of thinking.
But having said that, let me further say, Go home Cindy! Give it up! You have either been hood-winked by the extreme left, or you’re dropped a few marbles out of you bag in the last year or so.
President Bush met her and they evidently had a good meeting. That was THEN, this is NOW. Now Cindy is railing against Bush for anything and everything. Like God does with His children that won’t listen, He just let’s us ramble on until we completely unwind and come to the end of ourselves. Well, it appears Cindy has no yarn left to spin.
She now hates Bush so much that she’s changed the characterization of her meeting with him. She somehow thinks that being a citizen gives her the right to meet with the Pres any time she desires. I say it’s going to get mighty hot out there on that road to Crawford.
Oh yes, she’s not going to pay her 2004 taxes until or unless Bush brings her son back to life. I don’t think that idea will fly with the IRS but they are trying to be more friendly these days, so who knows? You go Cindy- power to you!
And while we’re at it, let’s impeach Bush for war crimes. I have lost track of all the things Cindy now wants, and I image she’s lost track of a few connective brain synapses as well. Whatever th outcome of this, two things are certain. Cindy isn’t getting a second meeting with Bush, even though she thingks they are on a “first name basis.” And, the liberal press is going to play this for all it’s worth.
In fact I’ve only seen one brief story that mentioned that all of her son’s relatives and friends, who want nothing to do with mama’s antics. But why would the press want to print something about normal, sane people? This is about Cindy & Crawford baby and it’s hot news. CIndy Crawford might be hot but that’s another story!
LIES, GAYS, & DOW DUMPING!
August 12, 2005
I know you’re going to find this hard to believe; however, Thursday afternoon the Kerry camp now says that Kerry was a bit mistaken about being in Cambodia for Christmas Eve in 1968: though bruned in his conscience, as he said In other words, he embellished, exaggerated, or LIED! Or, let’s just say that ONE of the things that the Swift Boat Veterans have been saying has now been verified. On to the other issues, eh?
Then there’s Gov. James McGreevey (New Jersey) who stood before the cameras today and admitted that he was unfaithful to his wife. He had an affair. So what’s new? Well, the person HE had the affair with was also a HE! Opps. Oh well, it’s a new America anyway.
Then there’s the Dow, free-falling below the 10,000 mark as though tied to an aircraft carrier that’s sinking. Could it be the $45+ price of oil? The threats of terrorism? The threat of a JFK presidency? Hey, how about the simple fact that we’ve lived over our head for more than a decade and the economic ship needs to be righted?
Whatever might be going on in your neighborhood, you’re not immune to the happenings in New Jersey, Wall Street, and in the Middle East where we get most of our oil. But not all is bad. The California Supreme Court reversed all those San Francisco gay marriages.
SOME FINANCIAL-ECONOMIC MUSINGS
August 11, 2005
There simply is no way that America or the world can continue to sustain $66 oil prices. The price of crude has nearly DOUBLED in one year. Many factors are at work here.
Demand, particularly from China, has increased greatly as the world grows. America is held hostage to the environmentalists that won’t allow us to build any more refineries (it’s been more than twenty years since the last one was built). Our existing refineries are breaking down more and more. Anyone living in East Houston knows that all too well.
Unfortunately what we’re looking at is being ignored and the result will be a near overnight collapse. It might not rival 1929; however, we are living in a bubble of denial if we think all is well. Last week, Southwest Airlines came within one hour of not having enough fuel for their planes out of Phoenix. Speaking of which, the airline industry simply cannot raise prices fast enough to compensate for the price of jet fuel.
Yesterday gold jumped up $10, and it hit $454 an ounce before retreating. This is a sure sign that the wise in the investment community smell a stench that is growing with our fiat monetary system. To say we’re living on “borrowed time” is mroe than a trite statement- it’s the reality.
PS. Hard to believe that a Catholic church secretary (Laura DeFilippo) can make $100,000 a year isn’t it. Wonder how much the prist makes.
OVER THAT PROVERBIAL BARREL!
August 11, 2005
So Teresa and John slept in different beds last night after a spat that aroused the Secret Service team. It’s probably not the first or the last time. I’m not even sure the charge by three Republican Congressmen that Teresa Heinz Kerry’s philanthropic work supports Fidel Castro’s Internet network is relevant.
What I am sure of is that Ms. Kerry in no way represents any values that I hold dear. Her husband is way down the road from where I live, but Teresa isn’t even on the continent. Just let me say that it is her views on the environment and other left-wing “tree-huggers” that have me paying $30+ for a tank of gas: and I don’t own a SUV!
There is no reason that we should be seeing oil at $45 a barrel. Not only are we strapping our nation and handi-capping our citizens, but we’re helping to fund terrorism. Those “sand dollars” are coming back in mortars and missiles.
When we have as much oil in Alaska and other off-shore areas as we do, but we can’t touch it, something has gone terribly wrong. We don’t have a shortage of oil. We have a shortage of common sense right now.
Unfortunately, we are suffering from the all too common malady that has inflicted other great nations down through the centuries. We’re more in to idealistic paradigms than common sense ones. We’re more into intellectualizing than exercising; more in to entitlements than responsibilities. And until we make some major changes, we’re going to be held hostage to Mideast oil tyrants. They’ll continue to have us “over the proverbial barrel”.
TIME TO GET TOUGH AMERICA!
August 10, 2005
I can’t help but wonder what American politicians will do, how they will respond, in light of Britain’s get tough policy. What I do know for sure is that the extreme left-wing of the Democratic party is no longer a force. Even the wild man himself, Howard Dean, said that the Democrats did not have a vision or direction for America.
I disagree.
In the last two-three decades the Democratic party has had a policy- let everyone be free and do as they please. Everyone should be free-spirits and have all the rights that our government can afford: maybe more. Pander to every minority and innovative cause. No death penalty for crimes but death to the unborn if one’s sexual preferences inadvertedly brings a child into the world. And so on.
If the left felt Bush was harsh on crime, tough on terrorists, and too strict with police policies, they have to think Blair is out of his mind. In a follow up to his “deport the radicals”, Britain just detained ten foreign nationals on the grounds that they were a threat to national security! You go Blair!
Back here in America, we throw pastors, priests, and ministers in jail for making public statements against homosexuality (and other Biblical sins), saying it is “hate-mongering”. And yet, Muslim clerics can call for the downfall of America, kill all non-Muslims, and be as anti-American as they want, and they are protected under the First amendment. Go figure!
No, let’s get tough on our enemies!
WHO CARES ABOUT THE POLLS?
August 10, 2005
I wouldn’t bet ten cents on who is going to win the election come November 2nd. I have taken the stand that I think it’s not going to be close. I think things beyond our control, beyond the candidates control will determine the winner.
I know, I know. We want to think that we are in charge, we want to believe that we control our destiny. Fate must answer to us, not vice-versa. I’ve got news for you. It doesn’t work that way.
Let me take on another fallacy that I believe people have become consummed with, and that’s the polls. All we hear about are this poll and that poll. Forget who is ahead, look at the internal polls. What’s the negative vote against the candidate, etc. Man at his worst: man trying to prove he is something he’s not.
Alas, I admit I’m playing the same game but on another field. For a year now I have been following the individual state polls, not the national polls. After all, if we learned anything from 2000, it’s that it doesn’t matter who wins the national poll, but who wins the ELECTORAL lottery.
My latest numbers (and they are dynamic and changing) show Bush with 209 electoral votes to 229 for JFK, with 100 being swing states that are too close to call. Bush could actually win or lose the election depending upon how two states go: Florida and Ohio. Or a host of other combinations.
So, for me- who cares about the national polls. Tell me which states are leaning which way. From there we will have a much more valid insight to the winner come November 2nd. In fact, I’ll update my numbers above each week over the next ten weeks just for grins.

A GENERATION OF LOST SOULS
August 9, 2005
Our young men and women are doing a remarkable job on the field of battle: probably better than we who are their fathers that did not have to go to war. We have sent primarily sons into battle before they even have had time to grasp what life is all about.
As one looks at the list of those who have been killed in war, it is amazing how many are teenagers. They come from all over the U.S. And they come emotionally wounded, to be in many casees, physically wounded. So many never had a chance at life. It’s just one of the great tragedies of war.
There is a far greater tragedy lurking within our borders though. It’s the men who are not being fathered (and there is no age limit here). There are way too many reasons for me to get into at this point- in this forum. What we need to realize though is that this war will come and go: Iraq. But the more serious war will see our demise, unless we change.
A fatherless generation sends out yong men unprepared for life who in turn do an even worse job, and the spiral continues until the end comes. Giving keys to the family car to a sixteen year old, millions of dollars to young athletes, and placing foreign prisoners under the control of immature American soldiers are just a few symptoms of the “lost souls” that we need to start looking for- before it is too late.
DAMNED IF YOU DO AND………
August 9, 2005
Amazingly Bill Clinton said that he felt the government’s release of the three year old information that led to a terror alert increase was valid and warranted. Of course there was the chorus of Democrats who felt it was just political. And the left-wing section of the Democratic party (which is growing) saw it as red meat for their hunger.
How dare Bush come out with a terror alert right after the Democratic Convention. How stupid to use OLD information to increase the terror alert in DC and other Northeast financial institutions. Just plain politics.
Oh, wait, what’s this?
Tapes wewre just released that showed al-Qaeda “cased” the strip (Las Vegas) back in 1997. The MGM Grand, Excalibur, and New York New York casinos were filmed. Mayor Goodman is upset as are some Democrats that this information was not made public. We can’t allow sin city to be attacked. Why wasn’t the public informed?
Say what? Oh that’s right. I forgot. It’s the political season. Nothing is supposed to make sense.
HOUSING BUBBLE VERIFICATION?
August 9, 2005
Insiders are always selling! The guys and gals who take a risk, eat up their own savings, plough through a couple of venture capital offerings, and then get to the NYSE or Nasdaq, start selling as soon as they can. That is what the game is all about!
However, when the sales of stock by the big boys begin to increase after the company has been around for a considerable amount of time, you can bet they “SEE” something. There are all kinds of limits on insider trading; however, there are no guarantees that the uneducated investor can’t have the wool pulled over his or her billfold.
Alan Greenspan raised the federal funds rate today for the TENTH time! While he can’t control long term rates, he can “influence” them and the housing market is slowly getting the picture. But what I feel to be the real story is told by inside traders. They know the run is over, and so they are “running”.
Forbes magazine just reported that, “For the first half of this year, sales by executives at those companies with market caps exceeding $500 million have sold $671 million worth of stock, compared with $189 million in the same period last year.” That’s nearly a three-fold increased rate. Newsmax picked up on the sell off as well.
Am I saying don’t buy a home? No, but I am saying you’ll be buying at the TOP, just don’t plan on selling at the BOTTOM! Buy right. Buy as cheaply as possible, and don’t plan on selling for a decade! After all, you are buying to LIVE in it as opposed to why many have been buying in the past- an investment to resell.
THE PRICE OF FREEDOM & STUPIDITY
August 7, 2005
I have to shake my head and wonder, like De Toqueville, if democracy can really survive itself. Sure, you can look back on the last couple hundred years as proof. But I have to ask myself how much of that is just luck, grace, or a combination of the two?
Liberalism has run amuck and doesn’t know it. In our quest for political correctness we’ve shot ourselves in the foot. In our effort to be all things to all people, we’re nothing for everyone. And in our zeal for diversity and inclusiveness, we’ve sown the seeds of our own demise.
I wrote last week about the ACLU and their stand against every piece of legislation that keeps terrorists from our doors. I want to now look at the same idiotic thinking across the pond- England.
Tony Blair has taken a stand against hate-mongers; however, we’ll have to see if Parliament will back him. It’s one thing to take a stand and quite another to make it stick! We can only go so far in accomodating one’s liberties.
It was well chronicled two weeks ago that most of the suicide bombers in London had been living off the people via welfare systems. It has now come to light that Shiek Bakri is doing the same. Say who?
Sheik Bakri is an imam living in London. He has supported suicide bombings, called upon his fellow Muslims to kill all non-Muslims, and applauded the 9-11 hijackers. All the while he is inciting his fellow lunatics to do the dirty deeds that he himself advocates. He’s being supported by the people of England! The government of which he’s trying to bring down gives him a state-supplied car and nearly $2,000 a month.
He has collected nearly $450,000 in welfare payments while living in a $350,000 home in North London. Hey a guy trying to destroy the nation should have some privileges you know. And now of course he is up in arms about Blair’s threat to deport him! He says it is UNFAIR to deport him because it would cause his FOUR wives and their families to suffer.
UNFAIR? And his trying to kill all non-Muslims IS FAIR? How about stupid for England to continue financing and supporting those who are their enemies? Yep, liberty and democracy has run amuck- or at least the people implementing it have.
FORFEITED MORAL AUTHORITY?
August 7, 2005
Not in a thousand years would I have imagined a scenario like our government just submitted to. Give Bush credit for saying YES, but give Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas and the other thirteen Democratic House Reps. an “F” for being so foolish!
You see, Ms. Johnson and her twelve cousins want the United Nations to monitor our elections, especially Florida. Yep. She wants the organization that has no power, can’t make a resoution stick, and is embroiled in a fraud oil conspiracy, to monitor our elections!
It’s like asking Ray Charles to tell us the color of Kofi Anan’s suit. Or, asking Scott Peterson or Mark Hacking to write a book on how to love your wife. Better yet, we could appoint Mary Letourneau to head up our national child safety programs. Whatever!
I am sure that Bush had good intentions in allowing such action; however, it seems to me that he’s gone overboard in trying to be the nice guy. Isn’t such an act saying to the world that America is no longer the moral leader? What are we doing in Iraq pushing for democracy and freedom if there is a higher authority, moral-wise, than the U.S.?
For me, I just don’t get it. And what’s worse are the people that are being “represented” by those thirteen Democrats that think the U.N. has a higher moral standing than the U.S. I sure don’t. Warts and all, America is still the moral leader on this planet!
WHAT IS THE TRUTH ANYWAY?
August 6, 2005
It seems that everywhere you look there’s no sure certainty of anything! For some reason I am having trouble believing ANY of the numerous conflicting stories coming out of Russia regarding the stranded submarine. There’s no need in going into all of the various scenarios; however, suffice it to say that various authorities in Russia have said one thing that totally negated what was said earlier.
Of course we’re talking about what’s called a “closed society”, a semi dictatorship: even though they do hold elections. Does anyone believe Putin is telling the truth?
But back here at home, a growing citizenry is beginning to think that the so-called Christian president (Bush), is a liar! Imagine that. The latest polls show that less than 40% of the nation feel that he is doing a favorable job of handing the war. His overall job approval is not much above that (42%). But worst of all, the majority of the people (52%) think he is DISHONEST!
Kofi Anan and the United nations is guilty in the food-for-oil scandal, Rafael Palmeiro shook his fingers at Congress and said he had never done steriods- NEVER! He’s now been suspended for ten days for steriod abuse. Of course he says it’s an accident, he can’t imagine how those steriods got in his system. Right!
Who can a person believe any more, and what is TRUTH? What IS, IS!
LET’S GET IT ON…AND WE ARE!
August 6, 2005
For almost a year it’s been a left-jab attack, but today a couple of rights were wildly thrown. We’re now under the 90 day mark for the Nov. 2 election, and if this week was any example, it’s going to get real nasty over the next three months. Expect a knockout!
The stock market suffered a 300 point drop over the last two days alone, and the Dow now teeters just above 9,800. Economists were expecting a 200,000 job employment improvement and instead they only got 32,000 which sent gold up $7, bonds diving, and the stock market reeling.
Along with that report went all the steam out of the Bush economic engine. All week he has been claiming that we have “turned the corner”. Kerry was quick to point out that the corner had turned into a “U-turn”. There are only two more employment reports between now and the election and it appears that the “economy” is back in “play”.
The Swift boat veterans are hanging tough and it’s getting real nasty. The war in Iraq has heated up. Oil prices are at an historical high, and the Bush people are in a mess. Maybe the weekend will give them some strategies for how to dig out of the mess; however, right now Kerry’s star is on the rise. In this environment the dog on top one day, can be on the bottom tomorrow. What a ride this political season is going to be- IS!
