IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE!
September 30, 2005
If it weren’t for the debate skills God gave me, I probably wouldn’t have been able to go directly from high school to college. But with a debate scholarship and a local university (Washburn U.), I was ready and armed. I’d recommend debate as a required course for every high schooler: it will serve them well.
So, let me address the technical points first. Kerry won the toss of the coin and he must have thought it was a football game. He chose to go first! Always go second, and be the last speaker in debate. In football, it’s another matter.
Kerry won the debate flat-out. As a result the polls will tighten. Foreign policy was to be Bush’s strong point but it didn’t show. His handlers even wanted it first to put Kerry in a hole, but it didn’t work. Kerry was more engaged, aggressive, and awake. Bush seemed tired, slow, and well, Bush. He’s no debater. But, let’s leave the “points scored” realm and look at substance: in case that still counts.
I heard two things from JFK. He told us THREE TIMES that his philosophy, strategy, and plan to solve the war in Iraq and terrorism would be to call a SUMMIT. Right! And then he said this, and I am quoting him, “I’ve never wavered in my life”. Right! That does it for me- enough said!
Let’s face it, JFK is a slick politician who knows exactly how to work the crowd. I wonder how smart is the electorate is: can they see reality, do they want truth? If heart, integrity, and principles matter: Bush won. But, knowing America, I have to wonder how many really heard?
WHEN WILL WE GET A GRIP?
September 30, 2005
America’s days on top of the mountain are limited. There are so many signs pointing to our demise, and my guess is that before we see 2010, it will be game, set, match! Maybe even a lot sooner. Let me count the ways. Continue Reading »
HIGH NOON AT CORAL GABLES!
September 29, 2005
I guess I am as confused as JFK. He told the press Wednesday that his famous, “I actually did vote for the bill before I voted against it,” speech, was because he was tired and it was late at night. Looking back we find that he said that at 1:15 pm. I guess it all depends upon what IS, is. And, what LATE is.
So, the DEBATE is not at high noon, but in the evening of course. Both sides have tried to SPIN the “expectancy” factor to their liking. The question is will someone stumble? Will someone misspeak?
Almost 80% of the people say the debates won’t change their minds. If you’re voting for Bush, you’re voting for Bush regardless: and vice-versa. But as close as this race is that 20% that might change their mind could decide the election.
I am sure both candidates have a hail-Mary play planned to run. And it will be interesting to see if they need it, or can get it in. At any rate, it should be a fun show. What elese is there to do on Thursday evening? Without any hurricanes in the Atlantic, about the only excitment will be to watch Mount St. Helens. Maybe she’ll blow!
NOW ON TO MORE REAL DIVISION
September 29, 2005
We now have a new Chief Justice of the USSC. John Roberts Jr. is the youngest ever selected to fill that post. There was never any doubt that he’d be approved. If the democrats wouldn’t approve him, who would they approve. I said on September 16th (you can always check the archives) that he would be approved by 77 votes: so I missed it by one!

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE- OR NOT?
September 28, 2005
We have $50 a barrel oil, rising interest rates, very slow job creation, a messy war in Iraq, and an international war on terrorism (meaning a war against our lifestyle). So, tell me again, why is it that you want to vote for George Bush?
When the pollsters look at the “internals” and see the varied questions that are being asked (which get a negative response), they shake their head when they compare those answers to the national popularity ratings. How is it that Bush can still be leading Kerry in the national polls, and slightly ahead on the electoral count (if the election were held today)?
How about in the midst of all those dire circumstances, the electorate is looking for anything or anyone that will give them some knowns, security! John Kerry surely can’t do that. Bush may not be right on all the issues, but he’s a man of integrity in a world where few can say they possess such a trait.
Forty eight hours from now we’ll have the first debate and people will need to use their human, intuitive tuning fork to try and locate a ‘true-North’ plumb line. Just ahead of that first encounter (and if the election were held today), my survey says that Bush would win with 274 electoral votes (270 is needed to win).
I’ll give a more in depth analysis of the various ‘battle-ground’ states this weekend, after the first debate.
FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
September 28, 2005
I was a gold bug back in the 70′s when gold hit $850. I am a gold bug today and have been for four years now. And the reason for both of those seasons has two reasons (a poet I am not): inflation and debt! And we’re seeing more and more credit cards becoming deliquent as a result. Continue Reading »
SECRETS AND INNEUNDO….
September 27, 2005
I’m afraid that if you vote for George Bush in November that you’re making one of the biggest mistakes of your life- not to mention how vulnerable you are making your children and grand kids. Just ask JFK!
Kerry has told us of the SECRET Bush plans for a draft right after the election. Do you want your teenager to be drafted? Kerry can’t give the details because it’s a SECRET, but it will happen.
Recently Kerry said there was a SECRET plan to steal money from the Social Security program, give the rich more tax breaks, and take more away from the middle class. He’d give the facts of those situations were it not for the SECRET nature of it.
Of course you also know that Bush has a SECRET plan to not only deny Blacks the right to vote in Florida, and other unmentioned states, but he also has a SECRET plan to attack Iran- not Iraq. Bush won’t tell the public that, but yesterday Kerry claimed he had some “insights” into the Bush SECRET plan.
And finally, Ted Kennedy fired off his first shots, back on nthe campaign trail, by telling anyone who would listen that Bush has opened us up and made us vulnerable to a nuclear attack. Of course he has a great memory of when Goldwater ran for president. I think anyone over 50, probably remembers that little girl holding a flower, with a mushroom cloud rising in the background. Well, IT’S BAAAAACK!
So, there you have it. Vote Kerry for president and KNOW what you are getting: with Kerry everything is in the open. Vote for Kerry as president and our nation will be safe from nuclear destruction: Ted says so!
PS. Did I also mention this land that I have in Florida?
ALL THE KINGS HAVE NO CLOTHES
September 27, 2005
Are there any gods any more? And if there are, where are they these days. If we have another hurricane (and Stan is the man- the next potential hurricane in the Gulf) come visiting Texas or Louisiana, the people are quickly going to conclude that the Federal goverment is not the answer to their problems. Well, DUh! Continue Reading »
A RESONATING E-MAIL!
September 26, 2005
When I came in this morning and opened up my 74 Spam e-mails and 23 non-Spam, in the midst of them all was a report from one of the few men that I follow regarding economic affairs and world events. There are not two men any more sane, seasoned, and full of wisdom that Richard Russell nad Harry Schultz. Both men have more than 150 years of experience in U.S. and world economic affairs.
About four years ago, Richard Russell mentioned someone that he had followed with interesting eye: Mahendra. So, I began subscribing to his newsletter, bought and read his last two books, and have generally found him more than amusing: I’ve found him to be RIGHT about 80-90% of the time.
He had two things to say. The first was…”Tuesday or Wednesday of this week does not portend good for the world. Some kind of natural disaster could befall us, though my vision is not clear concerning where it will occur and of exactly what nature it will be. Let us therefore be mindful and pray that the week may smoothly pass.” Ahh, something to live for, eh?
And, the second was…”There is a very strong reason for my untiring prediction that the worst crash of the stock market is imminent.”
Well, with those two predictions, I think I ‘ll head back to Starbucks for a second triple, extra-hot, grande latte! The reason? While I have no clue about the former quote, I bear witness with the second- in fact my tuning fork resonates exactly with him on that issue.
THAT PROVERBIAL PERFECT STORM
September 26, 2005
Many thought that Katrina was the perfect storm. Others thought that Rita could have been. But there’s a perfect storm brewing that is much worse beause it impacts every city in America; not just New Orleans, Galveston, or New York. I am talking about the perfect economic storm. Continue Reading »
A BRIEF COMMENT
September 26, 2005
I’ll write a more extended commentary Monday morning, but this thought occured to me tonight as I set outside enjoying the full moon, cool temperaturs, fabulous melodic music, wine, and LIFE!
How grateful I am to live in Houston, Texas. Easy to say with September almost behind me though isn’t it? I can’t imagine what it’s like to live in Florida.
With no disrespect intended, I have to wonder if ELECTIONS have a better chance of being held in Iraq in January than Florida in November. We are just now hitting the mid part of the hurricane season and FOUR have already made a “port of entry” call to Florida.
The debates will hopefully be able to be held in Coral Gables this Thursday unless we get an unannounced visitor- again.
Mas, manana (as usual).
SEPTEMBER 2001 VS 2005
September 25, 2005
As I watched Bush being informed by the military. as to what had happened, what might happen, but what’s not happening, in relation to Rita, I saw that look on his face. He knew life as he had thought this second term presidency would be was over! Continue Reading »
THERE IS LIFE AFTER RITA
September 24, 2005
It’s now estimated that 2,200,000 people exited the Houston area in what is now officially the greatest mass evacuation in America’s history! And now they must ALL come back. WHile it has been an incredible re-evaluation of life and what’s important, life will go on. And while many were inconvenienced, the differences between Rita and Katrina are day and night. Just consider the damage estimates: Rita $5B- Katrina 200+B! Continue Reading »
IS JEANNE MIRRORING JOHN KERRY?
September 24, 2005
That John Kerry fellow sure is a slippery one. Over the last twenty years he has a record of being the most LIBERAL Senator in this nation. He is the epitome of a left-wing liberal from the Northeast. He even makes Kennedy and Edwards look moderate.
Having said that, if you were a newcomer to the political scene in the last week, you’d think that Kerry was a dyed-in-the-wool radical HAWK! His rhetoric is RIGHT of Bush! He says that he will fight the war better. He’ll put more troops on the ground. He’ll get France and Germany involved. Amazing! The gunslinger from Texas is being ‘out-drawn’ by the Mass. Maverick!
So, once again, we have to ask the question. Just WHO IS John F. Kerry? Maybe we’ll find out in the debates. The first one is next week. Well, the first one is planned for next week in Florida- if Florida is there! Hurricane “Mean Jeanne” did a John Kerry last week, completely changing directions, circling around, and then heading back to the original path: Florida!
So, maybe Jeanne is giving us a clue to what JFK will eventually do: go back to his liberal roots before the election happens. If I were Bush, I’d be in a semi-traumatic state, not knowing which JFK will show up next week in the first debate!
