THE AMERICAN RABBIT MENTALITY

November 30, 2005

Well, the president has made his case about Iraq again. The Democrats have been asking for a more detailed plan so he produced a BOOK for them yesterday and gave his speech at the Naval Academy to back it up. Is there anyone that felt that the Democrats would have been satisfied about anything he could have said? Continue Reading »

THE PURSUIT OF GOOD TIMES!

November 30, 2005

Is there a difference in the pusuit of happiness and the pursuit of GOOD TIMES? Is there a difference in day and night? I commented on the Declaration Of Independence two days ago, so you might consider this to be a follow up.

One of the “unalienable rights” stated in the Declaration of Independence is “the pursuit of happiness”. However, since it’s not a right set forth in the Constitution, it’s not enforcable by the courts (the legitimate ones). And then there’s the pursuit of GOOD TIMES: otherwise known as an “my entitlement”.

We Americans increasingly believe that we should be immune from any HARD TIMES. ANY! Where did that thought come from? Primarily, it’s a theme eschewed by politicians who campaign for our vote on that “veiled promise”. And then there’s history. The last two generations of Americans are the only two in U.S. history that have never had to deal with “HARD TIMES”.

Today’s commentary was triggered by the resignation of Tom Ridge. He’s done a good job and he’s getting out before the inevitable happens. It’s hard enough to oversee a new agency with 180,000+ employees (can it be done at all?), but to dodge the al-Qaeda bullet for two+ years is even more tough.

He did it, but what are the odds of the U.S. being hit in the next 2+ years? My bet is that we’ll see another attack on our beloved U.S. (here in the 48 states) well before the end of Bush’s second term- and probably in the next two years. And that will be called HARD TIMES. We sure don’t want to be left out. NOT!

So, why doesn’t 9-11 qualify to be called HARD TIMES? You’ll know when the next attack happens. While 9-11 was the worst loss of U.S. citizens (on U.S. soil) since Pearl Harbor, the economic rebound was quick indeed. We’ll not be so lucky the next time around.

TIME TO MOVE LEFT AGAIN?

November 29, 2005

It’s still a year away before we know if the nation is ready to move to the left and enhance the BLUE status. The right has had things their way for a long time now. Maybe the best indicator of which way the winds are blowing would be to examine what Hillary Clinton is saying. Continue Reading »

GREENSPAN’S GRAVE MISTAKES

November 29, 2005

It’s been a long time since I got to jump up and down on Alan’s toes, so here goes. I believe history will show that Alan Greenspan was one of the worst Fed Chairmen in history. Further, I think the demise of the American economic dominance will be laid at his feet.

What we know for sure is that he’s printed more money (can you say inflation?) than ALL other Fed chairman put together, going back to the founding of the illegal Federal Reserve in 1913. Now, that’s some record. And I believe the rest of the world is finally catching on. Certainly China has.

China is no Japan! Japan can continue to buy up all those fiat Dollars that it wants, but China is kicking the habit. It was suspected last week that China was no longer a buyer of the US$, and in fact, China just might be selling the US$.

Why would anyone want to keep buying and holding worthless paper, or PAPER that is worth LESS each week? The US$ has dropped from the $120 range just a few years ago to $81 today. As a result, people are beginning to buy the only intrinsic, real value: GOLD! As a result, gold set another 18 year high at Monday’s close ($454.00 an ounce): up from $260 just a couple of years ago.

And guess what! China’s central bank is BUYING gold, urging it’s citizens to also buy gold (and they are). Menawhile, the BOE (Bank Of England) has sold off 50% of it’s gold reserves in the last four years. If they had kept their gold, they would have been $1.5 BILLION dollars richer than what they sold it for.

My guess is that Alan will have to go next year. His economic policies have been a disaster! From irrational exuberance in the 90’s (that made Clinton look like something he wasn’t), to the insane expectations of the new millennium, Greenspan has done it all wrong. He can leave. We and our children must stay and pay the price(s)!

One piece of information will make the Tuesday headlines and one will not; however, they are both significant and co-dependent. I am talking about GOLD and the The National Debt! Continue Reading »

INCREASINGLY MORE SECULAR

November 28, 2005

Ever since the movie, The Last Samurai, I’ve contemplated what a secular America would look like. It would look more and more like what we’re becoming. I believe that George Bush will go down in history as being the last traditional president. Secularism is on the way.

Of course God could step in, but why wouldn’t He do as He did in I Samuel 8, and give us what we want- our own King! Long live humanism and our gods. And then four years is an eternity in this fast-paced world. Who knows where America will be then? God only knows China will have a far more prominent role in 2008- especially the way the Dollar is fading!

After seeing the movie, National Treasures this weekend, I couldn’t help but be reminded about how little we embrace the Declaration Of Independence today. To neglect it is to call for the demise of our own independence. And then there’s this story.

Steven Williams, a 5th grade teacher in California (1st warning) in the San Francisco Bay area (2nd warning) was barred from giving his students a copy of the Declaration Of Independence. You can give kids an abortion, but heaven forbid, not the Declaration Of Independence.

I can’t wait to see how this one turns out. It will give us a clue as to how fast our nation is moving towards being a secular nation: like France- and Canada!

WHO CARES ABOUT SADDAM?

November 27, 2005

I was thankful when Fox News said months ago that they were not going to televise the enrire Saddam Hussein trial. I don’t mean to be insensitive to all of the families who lost loved ones; however, isn’t this a done deal? Continue Reading »

CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

November 27, 2005

Now that everyone feels more miserable, carrying around another couple of pounds, what’s ahead in the last five weeks of the year? Can you make a difference in the year, with 35 more days to give it a go?

Do you just mail it in, seeing those Janaury ideas as just not attainable? Do you consolidate the unfinished business and just concentrate on one? Or, with the faith of the greats of old, do you give it all you have, thinking nothing is impossible?

For most, it’s the time to shop and dig a deep financial hole for 2005. It’s better to be guilty about those monthly payments in January than it is to feel guilty about not being able to give the gifts in December.

For others, it’s all about planning for 2005, getting a jump on all the others: the same thought that didn’t work last year.

So, as three of those four holidays are now behind us, and Monday looms more ominous, what about making it the first day of a run to see just how much good you can do in the lives of people around you? See if you can make a difference in the lives of your friends- in these last five weeks of 2004.

WHO ARE THOSE GUYS ANYWAY?

November 25, 2005

Butch Cassady & The Sun Dance Kid were being chased all over the West. It seemed they couldn’t shake the trail of dust that kept on coming behind them. “Who are those guys anyway”, they asked. People around the world are beginning to ask the same question, except the players are not in the West, but in the East: the Ukraine to be exact.

Yanukovich and Yushchenko? You gotta be kidding! And these two guys may be setting off an international crisis? Yep!

Putin has been able to ram-rod anything and everything he’s wanted in Russia and surrounding nations. He has visions of bringing back the old USSR, and it’s host of subservient neighboring natons. All had gone well until last week. His hand-picked candidate (Yanukovich) supposedly won the election: however, the U.S., via Colin Powell said the election was fradulent and we would not recognize Putin’s man.

The nation is on the verge of civil war. Putin tired to coax the European nations to recognize his man, but they said no as well. Most recently, the Ukraine Supreme Court refused to certify Yanukovich. So, now what?

Now what indeed. I guess the world needs to take a little more notice of Y&Y and try to figure out just “who are those guys?”

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

IT’S LAS VEGAS TIME AGAIN!

November 24, 2005

As I drove in for a little semi-work this morning, I was smiling to myself as to how few cars there were on the highway. I had expected to run into a traffic jam at the first major intersection. But,as I pulled into my Starbucks stop, I instantly knew why there were no cars on the streets. They were all parked at the retail stores! Continue Reading »

TWO PEAS IN A (TEXAS) POD!

November 23, 2005

So, it’s official, Dan Rather has been fired- I mean, Dan Rather has decided to step down- prior to the report and findings on the George Bush military story. Oh, how he hates Republicans and particularly George Bush. It’s amazing what hate can do to a person.

Take Walter Cronkite as an example. Go ahead, take him please. I loved watching Walter when I was growing up as a kid, but once I had grown up, I saw a different person. I saw the same person I saw three weeks ago who said that George Bush somehow got bin Laden to make the tape, that Kerry now says defeated him.

It’s amazing how these two men are so much alike in their animosity to things Republican, but once you look back at their past, you see many similarities. Both men grew up in Texas, though some 20 years apart. Both found their way to Houston before going on to national fame.

Dan Rather was a news director at one time for both KHOU-TV and KTRK-TV. Walter went to Middle School in Houston and attended the University of Texas. These are good-ole Texas boys, and yet their politics differ greatly from the Bush’s. Both of these “peas in a pod” stood with Clinton during his impeachment trial, and they now stand firmly against both Father and Son Bush.

I tend to think that it’s unfortunate that so many years of great service to the country in journalism, had to turn so rotten at the end of the journey for both men.
