FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE!
November 22, 2005
We’ve got about every variety of sickness threatening America currently. It’s flu season. There’s the potential avian pendamic. We have mad cow disease scare nearly every month now. But none of those scare a politician like the old “foot-in-mouth” disease. Just ask John Murtha. Continue Reading »
TAKING A PEEK IN THE MIRROR?
November 22, 2005
Has the world gone mad and we didn’t see it? Is the world very sick, and we missed the diagnosis? Or, are the gods still on our side, and they’re just trying to make a point, and save us, before we self destruct?
There’s a whole lot going on OUT THERE (world) that’s been going on for years IN HERE (our souls)! And just maybe we’re beginning to get a peek at the mirror, and what we’re seeing isn’t all that reassuring.
Guys making tens of millions of dollars a year, get their egos bruised, and they charge into the stands to punch out men twice their age and half their size. College football players turn their sport into a boxing match on a Saturday afternoon. And then we have the pre game HEAT UP (it used to be called a pre-game warm up) where a seductive woman ventures into the men’s lcoker room with only a towel around her body, suggesting ten minutes is enough time to make both feel good.
Ahh yes, this is America where we have such a great life. I have to wonder though where it is all heading, and how fast it will take to get there. How much MORE can we engage in before we self destruct? The newest ‘reality’ TV program is to come out in a few months that will follow the journey of men and women who cheat on each other. The purpose is to see where it all leads.
You mean we don’t already know? Maybe we need to take a little longer look in that mirror and not just see the image of our own beauty, but focus a little better so that we can see our parents as well: maybe even look at our children. And then we need to ask ourselves, is this really where we want to go- and the legacy we want to pass on?
A TWELVE BILLION DOLLAR BINGE!
November 21, 2005
Winning the lottery is a dream of a whole lot of Americans: me included. From time to time I play my favorite six roulette numbers, but it’s more out of fun than anything. Of course winning could be a lot of FUN! Can you imagine winning $5 or $50 million? Continue Reading »
YOU CAN ALWAYS BANK ON IT!

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I believe Lord Acton gets credit for that line. But, whoever it was, they had an inside line to the reality of the human psyche. Continue Reading »
FINALLY ALAN GET’S IT RIGHT!
November 19, 2005
Would you keep pouring a drunk another drink? If you were the owner of a bar and knew that you could be liable for his actions, you definitely would not. Would you keep loaning money to a person with an addiction to gambling? Not if you expect to get paid back!
So, why would the rest of the world want to keep buying our bonds and financial instruments if it looked like the U.S. was drunk with power and wealth? The answer is they wouldn’t- or won’t. And, finally, Alan Greenspan belly’d up to the bar and said as much today. While in Frankfurt, Germany he said what he’s never said while here in the states, “Given the size of the U.S. current account deficit, a diminished appetite for adding to dollar balances must occur at some point.”
In plain English, he basically said our interest rates are going to go through the roof, in order to keep foreigners investing here; however, that ploy won’t work. At some point, and I don’t think it’s very far down the road, foreigners will lose faith in the DOLLAR! All paper currency is flawed and a fraud anyway.
The only real deal? GOLD! I have been saying this for half a decade. And in that time, actually in only three years, gold has risen from $260 an ounce to $445 an ounce or thereabouts. It’s headed to over $1,000 an ounce one day. I say that both intellectually and prophetically. When, I have not a clue. I just know we can’t continue to live way above our means forever, without a major, catastrophic adjustment.
MAN IS ……………..WHERE MAN GOES!
November 17, 2005
Once upon a time there was this place called Paradise: The Garden of Eden. Then man moved in- and everything went downhill from there. And we’ve seen that scenario played out ever since.
There are still those who think man is the measure of all that is good. We call them humanists. I call them ill-informed, at best. Getting closer to my point for today, there have been many who feel that nations are evil. Duh! But, if we could come together as a world, taking the best from each nation, we would have the ideal entity.
The UNITED NATIONS!
Ahh, but isn’t the U.N. run by mankind? So, why is it that France wants everything to go through the U.N.? Could it be because they have POWER there (Security Council veto). And, they have no power any place else?
And now we find out that the Food For Oil program should more aptly be called the Food For Fraud program. Guess who was lining their pockets and helping out Saddam? If you guessed France, Russia, or Syria you were right. And, guess who is trying to cover up the investigation? If you guessed Kofi Anan, you win again.
So, why do the Democrats at home and Socialists abroad want to give ultimate power to the U.N., taxing authority to the U.N., etc. It’s because they who run the U.N. have no clothes on, and stand naked and guilty- just like every other man in this world.
A LITTLE OF THIS AND A LITTLE THAT
November 16, 2005
It’s one of those seasons wherein you know winds of change are blowing, but you’re just not sure from which direction and what it all means. Are we facing a hurricane, a tornado, or is it just one of those ‘blue-northers‘ that hit this time of the year? Continue Reading »
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE!
November 16, 2005
Last week Jacques Chirac called Bush to congratulate him on winning another four year term. What an act of diplomacy. But, WAIT, that was last week. Yesterday he railed on Bush, and told Tony Blair that Bush was no friend, (to anyone) and being his friend, would get him(Blair) nothing but sorrow. Ahh what are friends for anyway?
Just when you think things might get better, they don’t!
For a day it appeared that the Democrats were getting the picture, smelling the roses, and tasting the coffee: of having the fewest number of Senators since President Hoover! They chose a pro-life, pro-gun sENATE Minority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada. But then they turned around and chose hard-line liberals as back-ups.
Recent polls show Hillary is the lead dog to run for President in 2008; however, John Kerry says he’s not out of the picture, and in the next four years he will be heard from. Seldom does a defeated candidate for president get a second chance, but who knows? Kerry has been running for president all his life- why stop now?
Oh yes, and then just when we thought we had all of the political rangling (like Florida) behind us, we now find out that there is going to be a state-wide recount in Ohio. Let the conspiracy theorists start their engines. Oh, that’s right- they already have.
It’s deja-vu all over again Yogi!
THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK!

Bill Gates finally woke up last week and told his shareholders in non-traumatic style that there were “disruptions” headed our way. Translate that into Bill admitting his twenty minutes of fame was over. So, who and what was he talking about? Continue Reading »
IT IS A DIFFERENT FOUR YEARS!
November 15, 2005
Almost everyone would agree that the next four years will be greatly different than the previous four. Just how, you’ll find a lot of disagreement.
First off, the next four years has a running head start. Everything is in place already. This time four years ago, we didn’t know who the president elect was. We were still counting chads in Florida! We didn’t even know that terrorists had declared war against us. But, I see the next four years as greatly different in one particular fashion.
It was Jesus Himself who said in Matthew 12:25, that a house divided against itself would fall: a kingdom, nation, family, you name it, that is internally divided can’t progress: win. If there is anything that Bush knows, it is the Bible. And, now that he has four years of presidential political life, he understands that arean a lot better.
So, in the next four years, Bush will have a UNITED team. No more State Vs. Defense (as in Powell vs. Rumsfeld). Forget about who was right- there was obvious division! Condi Rice has the president’s heart, and if selected, she’ll see to it that the State Department lines up with what George wants.
And no more CIA cheap shots! Both the CIA and the State Department leaked stories in the last month, thinking, and hoping, for a Kerry win. But, it didn’t happen. So, now you are hearing about “heads rolling” in the top level management of the CIA. Why shouldn’t there be blood in the halls? After all, it was the CIA that told Bush that finding WMD’s in Iraq was a “slam-dunk”. It almost cost him the presidency. So, who’s getting slam-dunked now?
Not everyone that has resigned or did resign Monday (4), was or wasn’t a team player. But this you can be sure of: all who replace them will be team players.
And you wonder why Sen. Specter is getting a hard look at being Judiciary Chairman? His stupid comments right after the election, about Judges, was enough to halt his automatic promotion. He can still be the Chairman, but only if he vows to be a team player!
The next four years will produce! The new political team be united. And if you don’t like it, cast your ballots in 2006 and 2008 for another team.
PUNCH AND COUNTER PUNCH
November 14, 2005
A couple of things seem rather obvious to me in the last 1-2 weeks. Bush has changed his posture towards those that have been sticking him with a left jab several times a day. He’s now beginning to throw some combination left and rights. On his way out of Dodge (Alaska), he fired off a final shot. Continue Reading »
THE COST OF FREEDOM VARIES!
November 14, 2005
It can sound so clinical at times- war. And then there’s the reality of a local kid, Thomas Zapp, who one year ago was a senior at Elsik, and now his funeral is being planned here in Houston.
We killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 to 2,000 insurgents (as we call them) in Fallujah in one week. Who knows the number? Bodies are everywhere. And, since we’ve only lost 30 something, what a victory: unless one of those thirty was your son, daughter, or spouse.
As has been said. In times of peace sons bury their fathers; however, in times of war fathers bury their sons.
And then there are those in purgatory: the ones not killed, many of whom will live with their injuries, turned, handicaps, for the rest of their lives. Landstuhl Medical Hospital in Germany (our evac center from Iraq-Afghanistan), has reported a doubling of patients in the last week since the battle at Fallujah got into full gear.
The hospital, which is America’s largest outside the U.S., had been receiving about 200 patients a week from the front lines, but last week, 419 checked in. Many stay for long periods of time, others are sent back to the States for further medical treatment. Few, if any, go back to the battlefield.
We honored an Army Sargent today, who at age 21 had seen fourteen months of war in Iraq. He was at the starting gate in March 2003 (like my own son), with the 4th ID. He marched and fought the entire distance from Kuwait to Baghdad and on to Mosul. He lost several buddies, but he was lucky. The price some pay for freedom is much higher than it is for others.
THERE WAS ONCE A DAY………
November 13, 2005
Do you remember the days when the word CONSERVATIVE meant that among other things, you were in favor of a balanced budget, tight-fisted fiscal planning, and restrined discretionary spending? It was those crazy Democrats who wanted to give everyone everything! Continue Reading »
THE NEW NATIONAL SOAP OPERAS
November 12, 2005
If you’ve been a regular to this web site, you’ll probably have noticed two things: an absence of both news stories and commentaries on the Scott Peterson Trial. Almost automatically, if I am watching Fox News at night, I turn the TV off when it comes to Greta time (9:00pm). I have nothing against her, I just don’t care hearing more about Scott, Laci, Conner, Gloria, Amber, et. al.
And then there are the regulars (various attorneys and expert witnesses) who blather on endlessly about their theories. A whole new culture has been created in the last few years over trials. It began with O.J. and when it will end no one knows.
Right after the guilty verdict came in, I turned the TV off because that’s all we’ll hear ad nauseaum. It would be nice if it were over, but we’ve got the trial for the punishment phase to go. Once that’s over, we’ve got the suspence (?) of the appeal process. God forbid the verdict being overturned because then we start all over again. Menawhile life pines away for most Americans.
For me, there’s too much in life to be done, experienced, and lived. Once this trial is over (if ever), there’s the “other” celebrity trials of which I’ll not bother to mention. I know some people get off to the daily soap operas, romance novels, reality TV games, etc. I’m just not one of them, so this is not the place to be caught up on America’s lastest addiction: the “Trial Soap Operas”.
