TERRORIST OR HUMANITARIAN?

November 11, 2005

Sometimes I wonder how Jimmy Carter got elected president: other times I wonder about his religious and philosophical beliefs. I’ve watched his crazy support and backing of Chavez in Venezuela and I’ve heard his rhetoric about George Bush.

I must admit, however, I’m coming to the conclusion that his mental capacity must be waning. Carter took time yesterday to lavish praise on Arafat calling him, “a powerful human symbol and forceful advocate”. For what I must ask?

John Howard on the other hand, Australia’s head, called Arafat a terrorist. I tend to think Howard has a better handle on reality than Jimmy Boy. But the rumors and contradictions don’t begin or end with Arafat’s stature. Heck, it took a week to find out if he was dead or alive. I’m pretty sure he is now, but who knows!

Then there’s the reports that he was worth something like $5 BILLION. I don’t know who has that inside knowledge, but it’s been a long-standing thought that Arafat controlled and hid away hundreds of millions- if not billions.

Monday, his lawyer came out and said Arafat didn’t own anything. He owned no lnad, no buildings, and had no assets. Thursday we find out that Arafat had sent his wife $11 million so she could manage to live in Paris for the first six months of the year. Where’d he get that- from a cookie jar? Hey, I know the Euro is strong, but $4 mil a month to live in Paris? WHOA!

And now we hear that the PLO has agreed to send his ex-wife $22 million a year- for life. When will the Palestinians wake up and see just what is happening? While they have nothing, their leaders throw around hundreds of millions on wasted causes and people.

Arafat might not have been a terrorist (what is one then?), but he certainly wasn’t a humanitarian Jimmy: any more than Hugo Chavez is a Democrat.

BACK ON THE ECONOMIC FRONT

November 10, 2005

Alan Greenspan just put in his bid to be the GRINCH that made Christmas more expensive- unless you’re paying for all those gifts with CASH!

Alan and crew raised the bench mark for bank lending by twenty-five basis points. We have finally moved to the 2% level: still an artificial number that is below what inflation is running. Ahh, but who’s complaining? At least with the low rates, he’s keeping us from a serious DEFLATIONARY environment like Japan experienced in the 90′s.

We’ve seen the Bush Bonus hit Wall Street over the last week, but alas, that’s over. Now what can we do to prop up the market? Good question to which I have no answers.
As I said a week before the election, whoever wins is facing a tough situation in 2005. So, now we know it’s Bush again. It seems he can’t get a break. The first time he was elected, he fell prey to the Clinton recession, and this time he falls prey to the Bush deficits.

Now that many rushed in and bought stocks last week, what happens now? As for myself, I bought some more Kruggerands. The only sure thing that I see happening down the road (that’s economically positive) is for GOLD to continue to set new records. This week, gold closed at a SIXTEEN year high and seems to like the $430-$435 range. Even the strengthening dollar and increased interest rate didn’t make a dent in gold.

Had you bought $10,000 of gold (not stocks) two years ago when it was at $275, you would have $16,300 today! Stocks sure haven’t done that. As for gold STOCKS (and silver), I’d only recommend HL, CDE, or BGO (currently) for a longer term investment.

PS. Our prayers go out to the Thomas Zapp family on this Veterans Day. The young Marine who graduated from Elssik last year gave his life for us in Fallujah.

APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT?

November 9, 2005

Well, we’re back to the blame game again: maybe we never left it.

I am so amazed at how fast this VIRUS is spreading. Forget about bird flu, unless you live in northeastern Liaoning province in China. And I don’t think there is a cure- that’s acceptable to us post-modern Americans. Continue Reading »

COMING, GOING, & WHO KNOWS?

November 9, 2005

Christmas came early for many Democrats. They were sorely in need of something good. When it was confirmed that John Ashcroft was stepping down as Attorney General, there was a sigh of relief throughout the Democratic ranks. Ted Kennedy led the cheerleading section.

And then there was the surprise call from across the pond. Jacques Chirac put in a call to George and congratulated him on his win. I guess it took a week to get up enough courage to make that dreaded call. I would have loved to have heard that conversation.

And then there was Don Evans saying he wanted to beat Bush back to Texas, as he handed in his resignation as Commerce Secretary. I wonder who the third Cabinet person will be?

Then there’s the lottery on who and how many Supreme Court justices Bush might get to nominate (note the word nominate). And just who will be the Chief Justice? How fun some things are for the President.

Oh yes, and from the South come overtures of “let’s make up” from of all people, Hugo Chavez. I guess he feels he owes Bush something for the $50 a barrel oil price. Venezuela is no better off, but Hugo and papa Castro are.

I guess it’s about time for Schroeder to make a call as well, but don’t expect any congratulatory cards from Ted Kennedy. Bummer!

THE OFF YEAR ELECTIONS

November 8, 2005

Democrats want to make the off year elections about the Bush presidency. The Republicans say the elections are about local races only. Last time I checked, the sum of the local elections equal the national mood. Continue Reading »

LAME DUCK OR HIGH FLYER?

November 8, 2005

As the Democrats slowly pull themselves back together, and look to life with George Bush for the next four years, several mindsets are coming to the surface. The most prominent one is that his four years will be worthless as he’s a lame duck president!

For me, such TALK is what’s really LAME! Instead of worrying about being re-elected for three years and then spending a year actually campaigning as he did the last four years, Bush will be able execute, preside, and push his programs for a full four years! And, he will!

Other equally lame statements have come from Michael Moore who is predicting that Bush’s arrogance and pride will cause him to make a mistake that will be impeachable. What does this guy drink? If ever anyone was arrogant, it was the Michael Moore look-alike at the Republican convention who gave the press and Bush the “L” loser sign. Come to think of it- it was Moore himself.

Then there’s Maureen Dowd of the NYT who says she’ll be in haven before all those ugly Republican Conservatives. And there’s Paul Klugman, of the same rag, who says that it is the 51% of America that is “out of touch” with reality.

Then there’s Kerry’s diary that was hidden until the election was over, which is now public. In his own handwriting he mentions that he met with Viet Nam terrorists in Paris back in his younger days. I guess the Swiftees had it right all along.

What I am certain of though is that Bush is no lame duck! And all those people with such lame excuses will find out over the next 48 months.

FORGET ABOUT THINGS BEING PURPLE

November 6, 2005

Tomorrow is election day and while there is little going on in Houston, much is going on elsewhere. Mayor White is poised to garner something north of 90% of the votes and a spring board for mrore lofty state or national offices for the Democratic faithful. Continue Reading »

NOW BUSH FINISHES THE JOB!

November 6, 2005

By the time you read this, the battle for Fallujah may have already begun. In reality it started ten days ago as our bombers began softening up the city. Ultimately, the war is won by boots on the ground, and they are about to starting marching.

It could have been done, but the war would have been more difficult if we would have changed coaches: presidents. Bush now keeps the heartache of war- and the joy of eventually seeing our troops come home victorious. After the Viet Nam reminders in the recent presidential campaign, we need a war to celebrate victoriously.

There are lots of other wars though: most here at home. Bush may get to nominate as many as 3-4 Supreme Court justices, and therein lies a major battle. I expect him to go back and re-nominate previously nominated judges that the Democrats turned down.

There’s the war over social security changes, dismantling the IRS, reshaping the health-care system, and fighting the battle that will define what marriage really means.

Bush began a lot of things he was only halfway into. Now he gets to finish the job, fight the wars, and see just what kind of a leader he really is. And did I mention it will also determine what kind of followers we really are?

HILLARY’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER

IT IS ALL ABOUT VALUES BABY!

November 4, 2005

Attention Hollywood, Michael Moore, and George Soros (if you’re still in town- the country). It is now clear that George Bush kicked Democratic you-know-what because of VALUES! Say what?

Americans are more optimistic and more united now since Bush won (after election polls) on Tuesday. How can this be asks the London Mirror? How can this be asks many Canadians? It CAN BE and IT IS because we “stupid Americans” (as the London press calls us) are still a people who embrace Christian values.

It was startling for the Democrats to find out that the number ONE issue among voters was VALUES & MORALS! I know this is hard to take for Barbara Streisand, Matt Damon, and others, but the world isn’t Hollywood. Values was #1 for 22% of the voters, with terrorism being #2 at 21%.

So, now what? Well, let’s look at the implications of the values that George Bush embraces. He DOES what he SAYS, and here is what he has SAID!

He’s going to revamp the social security program! He’s not going to raise taxes. He’s going to finish what we started in Iraq (beginning probably this weekend in Fallujah). He’s going to appoint competent judges to the Supreme Court and lower courts. He’s going to propose progtrams that promote ownership and support small businessmen.

Hey, here’s a thought. Instead of me making a list, why don’t you just go back and read what he has SAID, because that is what he is going to DO! What I can tell you he’s NOT going to DO, is to APPEASE the Democrats or the liberal community in our society. How can I say that? I can say that because he is a man of VALUES! Just watch!

AND NOW COMES REALITY!

November 3, 2005

I managed to pull off one of those teenage events (staying up all night for the elections) and then walking through Wednesday as a zombie. Waking up this morning after about 11+ hours of sleep, it’s as though my body is coming out of a coma. I think that’s probably where a lot of Democrats are!

What went so badly wrong? What happened? What’s the message? And already, some are looking to Hillary to bring them back to life. She can’t!

What is obvious to me is that Karl Rove understood the American psyche: and always has. He knew that deep down in their gut and spirit, Americans were still- Americans. This melting pot of fifty states certainly doesn’t LOOK like it did fifty years ago; however, it still embraces enough of those previous qualities to garner a majority of the votes.

Rove took advantage of the eleven states where same-sex marriage was on the ballots to rally the religious right. He ordered TV ads that appealed to spiritual values and moral standards. He could do all that because the CORE of his candidate, George Bush, was that! And the people choose moral value over a new beginning of some sort of social fabric that Kerry offered- and was.

But as America, and the world, awakens today, we must ask ourselves: now what? Where do we go from here?

It’s not a friendly world out there- mainly do to our own choosing. After all, the world began as a garden and we’ve proceeded to turn it into a paved, pot-hole-filled, parking lot of sorts. But of this I am certain. While Bush will reach out to his detractors, he is a man with deep CORE VALUES. And, since he doesn’t have to run for re-election again in 2008, what’s he got to lose?

What he has to gain is a place in history! He just may go down in history as the last great American president to rule with the values that we began with. You see, I think reality is going to be a cold splash of water in the face of those who are looking for some sort of political reconciliation. Bush IS who he WAS, and he WILL BE even more of the same in the next four years.

PERCEPTION & REALITY FLAWS

November 3, 2005

It’s always interesting to know a FACT and then have someone tell you something they (think) know that is one hundred eighty degrees from that FACT. There are of course lots of opinions about a myriad of things; however, when you get specific and limit the range of discussion, options and opinions cease. Continue Reading »
