DON’T YOU JUST HATE IT!
December 14, 2005
I don’t know why it takes people so long (especially politicians) to own up to their mistakes. And then they take it further and cover up their mistakes, making the cover up more damning and damaging than the original crime. Continue Reading »
THE INTELLIGENT DESIGN THEORY
December 14, 2005
The rhetoric against Christians, Christianity, Christ in Christmas, and anything that alludes to the name of Jesus Christ has heated up greatly this year. It’s almost like all hell has come against Christ. Duh!
I am still a firm believer that you can’t make lemonade without lemons, that you need to keep your enemies closer than your friends, and that whatever is made for evil can be made for good. I’ve got a lot more cliches, but you get the point. Right?
All of the attacks are causing Christians to have to think: something new for many. I think many Christians have fallen prey to the “entitlement” society, just as much as they who live on the DOLE have (and I’m not talking pineapples). Because our founding fathers established this nation on God, every generation that follows should get a “free pass”!
Well, my take is that we’re not entitled to anything, we deserve nothing, and were it not for grace, we’d not even have what we have: as little as that may be.
What I am saying is that it’s well past time that we start using the brains that God gave us, the courage without fear that He told us we have, and the creativity that He says we as His children have been given. I have been a proponent of the “Intelligent Design” theory for a long time. In other words, I don’t believe in evolution, chance, or that calling myself a Christian “entitles” me to special privledges with the general populace.
I believe God created the world just as He says He did in the book of Genesis, but not in the way most Christians “interpret” said same book. Confusing? Give it some thought and maybe it won’t be.
AS EXPECTED TO CALM MARKETS
December 13, 2005
There were no surprises from the Fed today. The two things that I saw happening did in fact occur: the fed riased rates 1/4% for the 13th time, and they also changed the language indicating they will not automatically raise rates when they meet again, January 31st. But if inflationary tendencies arise, they are ready. Continue Reading »
TAKE A DEEP BREATH NOW!
December 13, 2005
So, he’s guilty! I’ve refused to comment on the Scott Peterson trial, other than maybe one or two comments since the trial began. I haven’t even posted news stories about it- until today. Why waste the space?
The reason? There is so much going on in the world. Why would we want to waste so much time on one individual, or one trial? Aren’t there better things to spend time on? But, alas, high-profile trials are America’s newest soap operas.
We have a GUILTY verdict. So what? Now we go on for another sixty days of wrangling before the official sentencing. We will have appeals until the cows come home. A re-trial is very probable. And, how long will that process take: maybe 3-5 years?
Scott has a better chance of dying in jail or being killed in prison that he has of ever being executed. In other words, this trial is not over, it’s just entering a new stage.
As for me, I’m not going to spend the next 3-5 years on what’s happening to Scott Peterson. You can tune in to Fox News with Greta every night, and get the latest, and even that which has not yet happened. So, I’m outta here on Scott Peterson until the next big story- maybe 3 months down the road.
BACK TO THE COLD WAR?
December 12, 2005
Who could have imagined that a chemical, dioxin, could alter the International political landscape? What one can imagine is that if you give a person enopugh rope, they will eventually hang themselves. It’s beginning to look like Putin has the rope around his neck, and all we’re waiting for is the trap door to open.
The recent Russian elections were a sham, but most thought they were powerless to do anything. Putin has instituted old KGB tactics since summer. He has also said gubbernatorial elections would be halted and he’d decide who ran what.
But, when Russia got too involved in the Ukraine elections and hd someone poison the opposition leader, Yushchenko, nearly killing, him- ENOUGH!
Putin has been trying to resurrect the USSR, the KGB, and dreams of Russia being a super power again. It’s not going to happen. Putin will face more terrorism than the U.S. from Muslim militants, and he’s less prepared than we are to handle it.
What will be interesting to see is just how the U.S. responds to his dictatorial patterns and more importantly, have the Russian people tasted enough democracy to not allow Putin to go back to the “old days”? I don’t think he has what it takes to go back to the Cold War days. Russia’s days in the sun are over.

Today around 1:15 Houston time, the last Fed meeting to be presided over by Alan Greenspan should do what they have done 12 times before- raise the federal funds rate one-quarter of a percent. Continue Reading »
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ELECTION

If there is something that’s going on to grab the headlines this week, it’s going to have to be huge because we have elections in Iraq Thursday. Thursday is one of those landmarks in Iraq and American history. Continue Reading »
SLOW NEWS WEEKEND
December 11, 2005
Cable TV stations are having a hard time finding enough news to report. So, Kerik’s withdrawal as the Bush nominee for Homeland Security Chief is getting reported over and over again. Did he do this, did he do that?
And then there’s the endless reporting on how ten doctors took three hours to pronounce George Bush fit and healthy. And yes, we knew that Yushchenko was poisoned. We didn’t know until today that is was Dioxin.
So, I’ll enjoy the great weather and maybe do some Christmas shopping. Taking a break from the NEWS might even be good for our health.
BACKING OFF & PRESSING IN

Just when the Democrats had Bush on the ropes with his popularity numbers falling like rock, along comes Dean and Lieberman: and the presidents numbers are rising again. Of course you can’t blame it on two people but both are sure making Bush look better. Continue Reading »
WATCH THOSE PREPOSITIONS!
December 9, 2005
So what’s the big deal in using little words, prepositions like of and from? Well, it just might make all the difference in the world; particularly in this season.
Secularism is on the warpath these days and the battle extends way beyond prayer in school. Secularists are basically trying to sanitize and rewrite history so that all references to God are removed. The war has now moved to those prepositions mentioned above.
You see, our Constitution protects us by a “separation FROM religion”, meaning no religion can become the authorized or State religion. Our founding fathers wanted us to be able to choose whatever faith we personally desired. There would be no Anglican church that had to be followed by all- or any other.
Secularists want to rewrite the Constitution, or at least re-interpret it to say “separation OF religion”. Get the point?
FROM allows us to profess any and many religions. OF allows NO religion. And when it all comes down to it, Secularism is a religion: a belief system. Atheists don’t BELIEVE in a God: therefore there ARE a religion- a belief system?
The bottom line of Secularism is much the same as Humanism in that MAN wants no outside interference- no GOD. Why? Because for Secularism and Humanism, “Man is the measure”: man is the god. Man may be yours; however, I have seen who MAN is- and I want no part of him being MY God

WHY SO MUCH FUSS ANYWAY?
December 8, 2005
The vote in the House was 336-75, and the vote in the Senate was 89-2! There had been three weeks of hand-wringing, posturing, and political debate. But as I said ten days ago, Bush would win this fight: it would cost him dearly in “favors” (otherwise known as political capital), but he would see it done!
So, what was all the fuss about anyway when you see the outcome so clearly and lopsided as the vote above proved? Well, let me propose a couple of answers.
Bush is still dealing with the OLD House and Senate. The new boys do not come on the scene until next month. There are a couple dozen new kids on the block that can be easily manipulated, but that’s next month. The “old dogs” were still as angry as ever.
There are also a couple of Congressmen who want to establish themselves as “power brokers” over the next two years. Some behind-the-scenes players want to be prime time players, so this was their chance for that fifteen minutes of fame.
There are also some Committee Chairmen (remember Arlen Specter?) who want to run their turf like Judges do their courts: they want to play god (little “g”) for all they can.
Finally, there are still a couple of idealists who think things should be more than they are. There are dreamers who would like for things to be perfect: the best! But, it’s called CONGRESS: and that means COMPROMISE(s). I agree that there are alot of things in this Intel bill that will not get the job done (drivers license and border issues to name two). But, it’s better than nothing.
So, what was the fuss all about? Primarily ego trips with a dog mentality: marking their territory with a lifted leg!
CHRISTMAS IS EXPENSIVE
December 7, 2005
Wal-Mart is concerned that the consumer may be tapped out. They have reduced their sales forecasts for December. But it appears to me that the big spender this December is George Bush.
Right after the election, Bush declared that he had earned his political capital and he planned on spending it. Now, while he did a good job of stretching his resources out during the presidential campaign, I think he’s gone hog-wild in the first legislative showdown.
The House finally caved in and gave Bush the Intel bill that he wanted; however, it took a lot of arm-twisting- and a lot of political capital. Bush spent heavily to get this first bill. Last week I said he would get the bill passed. But, at what cost?
The Senate will pass it and the bill will become law, but it came at a major expense- of that hard-earned politcal capital.
SOMEONE CALL THE ACLU- NOW!
December 7, 2005
You have probably heard by now that Air Marshalls shot and killed a 44 year old man on the jet way in Miami. The story line as we know it now is, “The passenger indicated there was a bomb in his bag and was confronted by air marshals but ran off the aircraft, Doyle said. The marshals went after him and ordered him to get down on the ground, but he did not comply and was shot when he apparently reached into the bag, Doyle said.” Continue Reading »
