LOOKING AT THE WORLD- PART 2
March 31, 2006
Yesterday I mentioned that some 1.2 BILLION people make less than $1 a day. And the point is? Didn’t even Jesus say that the POOR will always be with us? Yes, but the poor are growing exponentially. And with the current economic system that is built on the ability to acquire DEBT, the poor are becoming more poor and the rich richer.
While religious fanaticism, especially among the muslim, is responsible for much of the terrorism in the world, it could be reduced greater if people had a job. People with little reason to live, usually don’t. And, they take you with them. It’s a known fact that if more people had jobs in Iraq, death and destruction would drop dramatically.
But even beyond what our economic system is doing to divide the world, all of the world’s lack of respect for our eco-systems could be the wost problem. We’re dumping 400 million tons of hazardous waste into the each annually. Toxic chemicals are destroying our streams, lakes, and oceans. It’s estimated that 25% of the mammal water life is in danger of extinction. The greenhouse effect is anyone’s guess.
As Ervin Lazslo has said, “Our world has become economically and socially unsustainable.” The greatest threat to us is that the eco-system doesn’t give us much of a heads-up before it collapses. It does not break down slowly: it tolerates to a breaking point and then crashes, seemingly over night.
We have already used up 50-70% of our biologically productive space (rain forests, oil, etc). And America is using up 5x what the average nation in the world uses (can you say oil at $105 a barrel?). The good news? It’s still in our hands to fix. Is anyone awake: paying attention?
PS. Move your clocks forward one hour Saturday night!
THE COMING TORNADOES!

It seems that we’ve entered into a secular age of PROTEST. Something akin to Luther’s religious protest. People are taking to the streets everywhere in PROTEST. Continue Reading »
WHAT’S THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
March 30, 2006
I am going to cease from the current news dribble for a few days and take a look into my crystal ball, and share some of the thoughts as they relate to the world that I am observing. Scary though, eh?
But, let me bgin this first commentary with the most recent break down of our world demographics. It’s from these next mind-numbing figures that we will spring forth into their interpretation. You with me so far?
I am going to use the model that says we are nearing 6.5 BILLION people on this planet. Back to small numbers being significant and large numbers just being statistics, I am going to break down those 6.5B into just 1,000 (a manageable number- and our global; village if you will).
Guys, I’ve got bad news, well it all depends upon how you look at it I guess, for our global village has 560 women and 440 men (I’m sticking with the Adam & Eve scenario, with no Adam & Steve.
You could probably guess the following make up in our little village: 576 are Asians, 320 are a mix of American, European, Arabs, and those down under. The remaining 104 are Africans.
What will probably comes as a shocker are the economics of our village (which is a real serious problem). 149 make $78 a day, 445 live on $16 a day, 406 live on $5 a day, and 227 live on less than $1 a day. Translation for effect: 1.2 BILLION live on less than $1 a day (all US$s). The 200 better-off consume 86% of all the goods and services, while the poorest 800 are left to consume the remaining 14%. This can’t go on much longer- but that’s another days commentary.
Then just some random data to mess with your mind. Fourteen percent (140) are illiterate. And, projections are that if we keep on truckin like we are (and my point in doing all this is we CAN’T), by 2050, our village will have grown from 1,000 to 1,500 and 690 of them will not have access to clean water.
Okay. I bet you can draw some conclusions before I start writing tomorrow. My confirmation to do this (it’s been a long time coming) came from an article that I read in the Guardian today.
POLITICIANS ARE OF LITTLE HELP!
March 29, 2006
It’s been an interesting weeek for America. The immigration issue seems to have moved front and center- with serious consequences. Unfortunately, our national politicians will not honestly deal with the matter. Neither party is seeking to find a solution: both are trying to make political capital out of it. Continue Reading »
TIME TO CONSIDER NEW LAWS
March 29, 2006
My first wife was killed in an airplane crash and there weren’t that many laws in existence covering such deaths where negligence was the cause. So, the State of Kansas handed out $50,000 (their idea of the price of a life).
The USSC is now being called to get into the file-sharing and instant messaging issue. And it won’t be long until all states deal with the issue that’s been headline news for months now: the right to die. That everyone should have a living will is a no brainer, but what if they don’t?
Being on a life support system is nothing new, nor is it uncommnon. It’s estimated that more than 150,000 are now on feeding tubes in America with some 40,000 of those having been diagnosed as being in a vegetative state. So, why is the Terri Schiavo getting so much play? Can you say politics and good old family feud?
In Schiavo you have both George & Jeb in the picture, you have bad news stricken Florida, and you have a family feud that’s not going to end when she dies. Court battles have already begun over who gets the right to bury her, and how.
And just when you thought we might have heard the last of such issues, guess who may have a feeding tube inserted in Rome? Yep, the Pope himself! I don’t EVEN want to go there! Let’s get our legislature on the ball and see if they can pass some sort of sane right-to-die, right-to-live laws. They’re into every other area of our life.
IS THIS ANOTHER GIFT HORSE?
March 28, 2006
While Ariel Sharon lies comatose in the Hadassah-University hospital, his newly formed Kadima Party came away with a victory at the polls yesterday. It appears that he has become an icon along the lines of David Ben-Gurion. Continue Reading »
WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE WE?
March 27, 2006
This week we end the first quarter of what was not too long ago, a new year. It doesn’t take long for those “new years” to get old! So, how’s it going for you? Are there any conclusions that we can draw for all of 2005 from the first quarter?
In the economic arena, it’s been a bad train wreck. All of the major indexes are in the red and I’m sure your 401k account will reflect that when you get your 1Q results. But, does that mean the year’s going to ened in the red? It’s not automatic, but at the first turn, it’s not looking as bright as it was back in December.
Maybe not surprisingly, politics has followed the same course. Popularity for the president has dropped from 52% last December to 45% at the end of the 1Q. Unlike the economic scene though, politics can more easily be manipulated by the man at the top. It’s a bit more difficult for Alan Greenspan.
The International front is one of the more bright spots thanks to the Bush “let’s make up” tour to Europe. The war in Iraq is winding down (unless you are one of the soldiers still there). The press is paying less attention, a new government is being formed, and fewer of our men are dying on a weekly basis.
Then there’s the elusive emotional-spiritual barometer. We’ve just come out of the Christian communities major religious event of the year, but it was overshadowed by the Terri Schaivo story. Gasoline prices are putting a pained look on the consumer’s face.
So, the 1Q (unless something major happens in the next four days) will probably go down as one we survived. Our hopes now turn to Spring where maybe a few flowers will bud in our front yard.

WILL YOUR EASTER BE ……..HAPPY?
March 26, 2006
I want to wish you more than a Happy Easter. I hope that it’s an Easter wherein you realize the victory that has been won for you.
For many people Easter is deemed happy IF: it doesn’t rain on their parade, the egg hunt goes as planned, the relatives show up on time for dinner, or if the sermon is short. The list is longer of course, depending upon your point of view.
This Easter will also be remembered by the illness of the Pope. Will we have him around for another one? His impact has been incalcuable. And then there will be the memory of Terri Schaivo that has captured the attention of the press, and thus the nation, for the past ten days.
For the families here at home that have sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and friends at war in Iraq or Afghanistan, Easter will be a happy one IF they come back alive, and without severe wounds.
But then you could apply most of the adjectives and situations above to almost any day. Rather than trying to make the day “Happy”, how about trying to make it “Real and Relative?” It’s the day that Christ conquered death for everyone that wants to follow Him and do the same. It’s a day of transition into a more glorious consciousness for His followers. For those that aren’t following Him, it a day of decision.
What do you want at the end of “this life”: transition or death?

A 1945 REMINDER IN 2005?
March 25, 2006
It’s sixty years after Hitler turned on his generals, but it’s beginning to smell or at least sound like a reminder of the last days of Hitler’s regime. And that sound-smell is coming primarily out of Florida. What is it about that state which keeps getting so much attention- mostly bad?
As things began to look bad for Hitler, his officers tried to assassinate him and as a result he turned on them. He felt they were not doing the job he promoted them to do, so he shot them!. He killed those that were fighting to keep him alive. It’s like an animal eating it’s own extremities until it kills itself.
Randall Terry said that there would be HELL TO PAY if Terry Schaivo was allowed to die.In other words, he and his zealots would vote out of office the very people that are doing all they can to save Terri. And then there’s Terri’s dad who said, “[Bush] has put Terri through a week of hell and our family through a week of hell by not acting, He has to come up to the plate.”
Come to the plate? Jeb Bush has done everything but kidnap the woman. Were it not for Jeb Bush, Terri would be dead already! Remember how on Oct. 21, 2003, he pushed through a bill that got her back on the feeding tube after six days off. The bill was later ruled unconstitutional. Hey, where’s your memory boys? If one doesn’t get their way, don’t kick the dog, yell at the kids, and beat the wife! Your dog may forgive you, but you’ve put the Karmic law into affect and the effects won’t be liked.
What’s up with this behavior that if you don’t get your way, you kick your friends? If people want to go to jail, that’s their choice, but when a person takes the oath of office to uphold the law of the land (be it the president, governor, or mayor), it’s serious business. Bush has tried everything short of breakiing the law he swore an oath to uphold. I give him a pat on the back for being right and well motivated in the matter: above and beyond.
Maybe it’s just the heat of the battle that’s caused such outrageous comments. I pray so.
POLITICS AND RELIGION DON’T MIX!
March 25, 2006
I’m not sure what the descriptive word for it is; however, odd is a place to start. We have Americans fighting in Afghanistan (not to mention Iraq), so that the people could be FREE of the Taliban and have religious freedom, but freedom to what? Continue Reading »
SPIRITUAL WARFARE OR HYSTERIA?
March 24, 2006
It’s amazing how the Terri Schaivo battle has turned this nation on it’s head. As with most other things, this nation seems to be divided down the middle. Out of this will come many new laws on living wills and other right-to-die legislation.
We have now covered all the legal bases and the results are what was to be expected. We now move out of the natural and normal process and into very stormy seas. People are getting arrested for trying to take water into Terri’s room. Anyone who wants their five minutes in fame is in Florida now or headed there.
The religious crowd are off the charts with their metaphors and warnings. The Catholic crowd are comparing the mother of Jesus (Mary) to the mother of Terri (Mary): neitrher being able to save their child. Randall Terry is promising “hell to pay” if she’s allowed to die.
And, I just received an e-mail from a well-known church leader who feels that a “….spirit of death, a new wave of violence and death will be released across the nation. It could manifest through suicides, terrorism, disease, euthanasia, increased abortions, murder, etc.” He sent the e-mail just before departing for Florida. And then there are others who are encouraging Bush to break the law.
Wow! He must know another God than the one I know.
If that’s the case, then Jeb Bush better take the Florida National Guard and go in and kidnap her; and he might! Where we go from here only God knows. Desperate people do desperate things. Again, while I’d like to see her parents have her, I also know we have to “render unto Caesar”. And when all else fails, we PRAY! We don’t have to break laws, get on a plane to Florida, threaten and scare the world of a potential epidemic of murder, or go nuts! How about praying, or maybe even some inner spiritual warfare? Beats the hysteria I see building.
VISITING AN OLD BEHAVIOR
March 23, 2006
I got home around 10:00pm last night without my laptop! Miracles do happen. And as I fell into my familiar high-back chair, I turned on teh TV and watched the repeat version of Bill O’Reilly. I used to have the 7pm No Spin Zone addiction- back in 2003 and somewhat in ‘04. Luckily, life changes.
Anyway, the topic was guess what? Yep, Terri Schaivo. Oh course Bill always has an answer to every question, even if you don’t ask him. His simple solution was for husband Michael to turn her over to the parents. last time I checked, he and the parents are like the Hatfields & McCoys; however, that’s not the issue I want to come address.
Bill also placed the situation in the Secularists vs. Traditionalists battle. I consider myself to be that second camp. But as I’ve commented in previous posts, I find myself standing on the other side of the aisle in this case. I AM for life. I AM for preserving her life LEGALLY. What has bothered me is that I see Bush and the Republican Congress taking this into the political arena. I think the motivations stink.
Far greater than one life (and that is immense) is the box that was opened over the weekend (can you say PandoraFEDERAL system that our nation was built on- just for political expediency.
Okay, no more O’Reilly! ![]()
