Israel And Lebanon
July 18, 2006
How easy it is for some Americans to sit in judgment of Israel. I am amazed at how little empathy or understanding that primarily people on the left, in America, have about what’s happening in the Mideast. Here’s why. Continue Reading »
The Perfect Storm

As I have been saying for a few days now, gold has not yet fully corrected, or at least that’s my position. Today we had the perfect storm that caused gold to drop $16. Why is that? Continue Reading »
Expanding the Iraqi Paradigm
July 17, 2006
In times past, all of Israel’s neighbors would playing pile on as they did in the 1967 6-Day War and the 1981, but not in 2006. Why?
The dynamics of the region have changed. It’s not just a matter of Israel vs. the Muslim world because the Muslim world is divided: a fact lost on many people. The dynamics of Iraq also exists in a much larger region.
Saudi Arabia in a never-before-seen statement, accused the Hezbollah of starting the war with Israel. Jordan has stayed out of the fray as has Egypt. And the simple reason why is because those three nations are primarily Sunni. Hezbollah is Shiite. Iran is primarily Shiite.
While Israel is no friend of Egypt, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia, they can’t risk seeing the Shiites take control of the region like they have and are in Iraq. So, the good news for Israel is the old Biblical news that “A house divided will fall.”
So, this is a war that has the potential of lasting weeks, as long as it stays localized as it is now. Therefore, America is beginning the evacuation of some 25,000 Americans in Beirut.
Be Committed!
July 17, 2006
“Sit, walk, or run. Just don’t wobble,” goes one of the Zen sayings. The point is? Be COMMITTED!
Here is where these principles get hard. Nothing will take the air out of commitment any more than dishonesty. Break a promise to do something, show up late for meetings, and you invite employees to steal postage, cut corners, and otherwise give LESS than they would otherwise. Every organization or entity has to have the complete “BUY-IN” of those involved to be a success. You can garner a degree of buy-in with fear but it’s only effective when you are there and it will lead to massive and frequent turnover. There has to be another way. It’s called modeling the concept yourself to the employees. Continue Reading »

The Current Price of Gold
July 16, 2006
We will know the answer to that next week. Gold closed up $13 Friday to register the highest close since May 23rd. But, gold is currently responding primarily to what happens over there: Israel, Lebanon, and to some degree North Korea and Iran. So, what can we expect of gold July 17-21? Continue Reading »
