Campaign And Election
August 31, 2006
It’s time to get get “down and dirty” with some election projections. The Labor Day weekend is upon us ( a day away). So, I want to give you a “sliding analysis” of how I see things between now and November 7. Let me say that as of today it looks like an automatic lock (90% certainty) that the Democrats will win back the House, and an even shot (50-50) of winning the Senate and here are some details. President Hugo Chavez?
August 31, 2006
It doesn’t seem like a week can go by without Hugo Chavez visiting some avowed enemy of the United States and sounding his trumpet of a new world order. Would you be surprised that he sees himself as the top dog in such a universe. Hugo reminds me of the “little mouse that roars”; however, he is inviting into his home all sorts of diverse and deadly companions. Since Venezuela is so close to the United States geographically, Chavez is no doubt going to be a problem in the years ahead. Continue Reading »
Economic Recession
August 31, 2006
It appears to most economists, though they don’t like to admit it, that we’re slowly moving into an economic recession. Since the Fed doesn’t give us money supply numbers any more, it’s a little more difficult to judge what they are sensing. A slow down of any significance though would cause the Fed to start printing money. And the more money you print, the more inflation there is. And? Continue Reading »
September 11th 2001
August 30, 2006
In the northern states, touches of fall can be felt as we are just two days away from September. Here in Houston, the weatherman tells us that a cool front will pass through today. Cool front? What that means is that the high today will be in the LOWER 90’s. The low for the night might get to 70! But the really good news is that the humidity should drop below50% Continue Reading »
Hurricane Katrina Photo
August 29, 2006
The one year remembrance of hurricane Katrina will get to be observed in peaceful conditions. Last week the weatherman was saying there was a possibility that 365 days later, Katrina would be remembered with a visit from another hurricane- Ernesto! As it works out Ernesto isn’t even a hurricane and Florida is it’s destination, not New Orleans. One never knows about the action of hurricanes until they come ashore. Continue Reading »
Answering Islam & Katherine Harris
August 27, 2006
One of reasons that I’ve been concerned about our efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq is due to the cultural gulfs that exists between people of the West and most Arabs. More particularly, I am talking about the religious foundational differences. It’s a gulf too large to bridge. Continue Reading »
Proactive Planning
August 26, 2006
“Fools curse the darkness, while wisdom lights a candle” Unknown
The world is being swamped by Anything.com corporations and they are making a bundle (if but temporary). The heads of these corporations, which are by and large the hi-tech companies, are to a great degree run by men and women who have a couple of things in common. They don’t accept NO as a solution and they are PIONEERS! They are not setting back and waiting for someone to give them a “go ahead”. I’m talking about those who subscribe to proactive planning. They also subscribe to the old Jesuit principle that says, “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission”. Continue Reading »
North Of The Border
August 26, 2006
Riverside, New Jersey you say? I can see a controvery in Texas, California, and eiher of the two states sandwiched in between them; however, if we’re seeing immigration protest in cities like this Northeasten community, is any place in America safe from immigration problem? Continue Reading »
Hillary Clinton For President
August 26, 2006
You’ve probably heard how a big shot got there- he kept being a little shot every time he could. Sometimes though we get shot in the way to trying to attain something. There’s another addage that fits here as well- live by the sword die by the sword. I think we’re seeing Hillary do things now for a pole position two years down the road. Will it come back to bite her or benefit her? Continue Reading »
Golden Opportunity
August 25, 2006
I mentioned on numerous occasions that the housing bubble that is leaking air faster than Bennie and the Feds can pump air into it, is on life support. Housing is critical to the overall economy. And housing has been the fuel for the expansion in the last 8-10 years after the dot.com collapse. Housing and the related trades account for 10% of all jobs in America. Continue Reading »
Here I Come!
August 25, 2006
My name in Spanish is of course Ernesto! And if you have not heard by now, I am a tropical storm that formed just north of Venezuela. Tropical storm risks are nothing to worry about. They happen all the time. Ahh, but this tropical storm has some interesting dynamics. No one know where Ernesto is headed, but the best odds at this time are somewhere between Houston and New Orleans. Great! Continue Reading »
Syria Lebanon & Iran Syria Connections
August 24, 2006
Ehud Olmert has to redeemd himself some way. It also appears that the toothless United Nations isn’t going to do anyting about either Resolution 1701 or Iran’s nuclear enrichment program. So, will these two situations work together in some way? I’m beginning to think they might. Of course there’s still time to change either scenario, but here’s what I’m smelling. Continue Reading »
Bush Approval Rating
August 24, 2006
Maybe those many Republicans running for office who were distancing themselves from Bush, might want to take a look at the polls again. Maybe not. But, if the Bush approval ratings keep rising as they have recently, who knows? There’s still a lot can happen but as we close in on the 60 day rush to the finish, the Bush candidates are making some progress. Continue Reading »
Mexican Immigrant Alert!
August 23, 2006
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said this marks the end of the “catch-and-release” practice that for years helped many illegal immigrants stay in the United States unhindered. Unless you are from Mexico of course, as all non-Mexican illigal immigrants caught sneaking in are deported. Continue Reading »
