The Housing Market
August 17, 2006
It’s always been the addage that so goes the housing market, so goes the economy. If that still holds for today, then we’re looking for a fairly large slowdown. Housing prices have more than stopped rising, they are tanking big time in many communities. Inventories are rising and the time on the maket before being sold has doubled and tripled in some markets. So, now what? Continue Reading »
War & Ethics
August 16, 2006
Let me just get to the bottom line right up front. The United States or Israel cannot win a war against Iran, Syria, or any other radical Muslim group in the East with Western ethical tactics! The United States got hammered every time a civilian was killed in Iraq. Israel got smashed in the public forum for the same acts. And then for the first time that we know of, there were massive alterations of pictures and stories by the press. Continue Reading »

The War No One Won Isn’t Over
August 15, 2006
Olmert says Israel won. Nasrallah says Hezbollah won. Syria says that Lebanon won. Bush says that Israel won. Ancient philosophers have said that in war NO ONE WINS- some just lose less than others. And that’s particularly true here since this war really isn’t over regardless of what anyone says. The real story is? Continue Reading »
Weak Gold Prices?
August 14, 2006
Gold started this week down $10 early in the morning but slowy came back to close out the day down just $5. It was mainly the continuing strength of the us dollar and the cease fire in Lebanon. But my sense that well see weakness all week. Continue Reading »
Missing Students Found
August 14, 2006
I wonder if we will ever be able to adopt an immigration policy that will work? It’s obvious that we are not going to get an immigration bill any time soon. US immigration is not a concept! And when eleven Egyptian exchange students failed to show up for their college classes, we were reminded once more.
Eleven exchange students and immigrants that were missing, and finally were rounded up and arrested yesterday. They were found in Minneapolis, New Jersey, Maryland, Iowa, and Illinois. It’s akin to flying to New York and having your luggage show up at different airports. Maybe it’s a governmental thing.
Originally seventeen were to show up at Montana State University: six made it.
It’s since been determined that none of them were terror risks? Really? But that aside, what’s it say about those that might be? All one has to do is register for a course at some university for the summer, and then not show. Those who are terrorists will not be as easily found I am sure. And all they need to do is hook up with the already in-place sleeper cells, and well, you know.
We have a serious immigration problem that goes well beyond what happens on our Southern border.
Lamont’s Lament
August 14, 2006
One of the problems with writing a book is that you cannot un-write it. And in politics, taking a positon means you need to stick with if lest yuou get the John Kerry “flip flop” image. Ned Lamont is now finding that out. Continue Reading »
Dress for Success
August 14, 2006
“It is an interesting question how far men would retain their relative rank if they were divested of their clothes.” Henry David Thoreau
One of the areas where most people are conservative in the work place is in the area of dress! Books have been written on how one should ‘dress for success’ but it goes deeper than that. One should dress not just for success but for ‘themselves’ and for the ‘confidence building’ that therein produces such success! Continue Reading »
Days Of Uncertainty
August 13, 2006
Just because you have yet another un resolution (#1701 to be specific) doesn’t mean a whole lot if history is the judge. Hezbollah has said that they will abide by the cease fire if Isreal does. Israel says that they will abide by the cease fire if Hezbollah does. Guess where my money is being bet? Continue Reading »
The 2006 Election
August 12, 2006
The off year elections are not without drama and intrigue, and 2006 is not going to be any different. Everyone is now asking this interesting question. Had the election in Connecticut for the Democratic primary been a week later, would Ned Lamont have won? Continue Reading »
A Record Trade Deficit?
August 12, 2006
For years now, America has been building a trade deficit, among others. There is coming a time when those who are loaning us money (which is what a trade deficit means), in good or cash, will cease to do so. As that time appears to raise its ugly head, the dollar will fall fast, and gold will rise faster. Continue Reading »
Another United Nations Resolution
August 12, 2006
Yes, everyone has now agreed to the terms and condtions of yet another worthless U.N. resolution. Does anyone know how many resolutions they have passed that have not been enforced? Maybe the better question would be, are there any that have been enforced? Continue Reading »
Airplane Accidents?
August 10, 2006
Nameless people yesterday and notorious terrorists today.Three people out of twenty four that were arrested have now been identified: Rashid Rauf, Mohammed al-Ghandra, and Ahmed al Khan. These three had made a recent trip to Pakistan and on their return to London had received anough money to buy airline tickets to America. It was to be a “dry run” ahead of the real thing. Gold Prices
August 10, 2006
For the first time in seven days, gold prices made a double digit move for a day, except the move was down not up. The alst time gold moved down double digits was four weeks ago. And, four weeks ago, gold dropped double digits four of five days. So, with terrorism being highlighted today, what made spot gold drop $16? Continue Reading »
