The Lost War
September 12, 2006
War is hell and no one wins in war, someone just loses less than others. That said, it appears the tide is going out, and that the pendulum is swinging back to the other side of the equation. In less than two months we will discover how fast the tide is moving out. Five years is at least four years too much. Continue Reading »
A 9 11 Tribute
September 11, 2006
It was five years ago. In those five years, America has tried to repond to what it all meant. The 9 11 attack followed by first one 9 11 conspiracy after another. The 9 11 commission report told part of the picture, and yet we still wonder. The phrase we are safer now, but we’re not safe yet is hallow. We have been reduced to platitudes and cliches, but on this day America will observe a time of silence in memoray of the 2,900 that lost their lives that fateful day. Continue Reading »
ABC Extreme Makeover Or Courage?
September 9, 2006
It’s amazing how sensitive the Democrats are today about anything that might look negative. One of the major battles for the next eight weeks will be which side can control the news, or shall we say SPIN? For the last week, the battle has been over the ABC documentary mini series, that’s now a “docu-drama“, that may not see the light of day! Former Clinton administration officials are hammering ABC hard to get the show cancelled. A Democratic petition with nearly 200,000 signatures urged the network to scrap the five-hour drama. Hillary has saiud drop it. And even Bush has indirectly helped out by wanting airtime on Monday. Continue Reading »
Bad Business Economy?
September 9, 2006
It was the volatile week that I had siad we could probably get. The good news is that it was a shortened four day week. Three days of the four saw $14-$17 moves. Two were down and one was up. I can’t wait until we begin seeing some of those $25 moves in a day and then the $50 moves that really rock our investment psyche. Continue Reading »
Disaster Preparedness
September 9, 2006
Who is Hank Paulson? Who was George Bush before 9-11? Sometimes history deals the cards and we have t0 play the hand we were dealt. I believe I am right in saying that no incumbent president has been re-elected when the nation was at war. I would say that most people believe that Bush would not have had a second term without the war on terror. So, in that sense, fate gave Bush a two-term presidency. But, what’s up with Hank? Develop Intuitiveness
September 8, 2006
“The intuitive mind will tell the thinking mind where to look next” Dr. Jonas Salk
We now embark upon a “sensitive and touchy” area for most Christians but one that is mostly a matter of semantics than theology. The dictionary tells us that intuition is “a direct knowing of something without the conscious use of reasoning.” Christians might call this a “word of knowledge”. The individual on the street would call it a “gut feeling”. The intellectual might call it “a flash” of brillianc e, an awakening intuition. Call it what you want, but call upon it! Intuitive thinking and business intuition is a must in a dog-eat-dog world. Continue Reading »
Bill Clinton & Monica?
September 7, 2006
After reading the title above, you have to be asking yourself, is this an old post that somehow got back into the feed? Nope, it’s the old Bill Clinton scandal coming back to life in a new ABC mini-series to run starting this Sunday. What a way to remember 9-11: by remembering Monika Lewensky! Continue Reading »
The Bully Pulpit!
September 6, 2006
The Democrats got an up close and personal look at what power the bully pulpit can wield. You had to figure that there would be some strategy behind Bush deciding to not run from the war issue, instead hammering it as though it was his favorite nail. After two speeches on the War On Terror, Bush dropped a sledge hammer on the Democratic toes. He took the offensive big time! Continue Reading »
Self Learner
September 5, 2006
“Experience is a good teacher but her bills are terrific!” Minna Antrim
In this age of the internet and with “information” doubling every 3.5 years, to not be a “self learner” is suicide and a sure way to go through life impoverished. We don’t have time to stay in school all our life (which could easily be done today) and as my introductory quote says above, experience is too harsh of a teacher; so all that we can
reasonably do is “keep educating ourselves”. And, the good news is that it’s incredibly CHEAP! Work experience and life experience is expensive. Continue Reading »
The Terrorism Picture
September 5, 2006
Even a broken clock gets things right twice a day. I posted yesterday that we should see more volatility come Tuesday and we saw the biggest upside move in gold ($14.00) in 6 weeks. And the driving force as I see it was on the political front. Bush was hammering terrorists and Iran was throwing out all the liberal teachers. The two sides are firming up their positions and increasing the war rhetoric. Continue Reading »
GOP- Grand Old Party
September 5, 2006
I get asked many times, mostly by the younger crowd, as to what the GOP stands for. There’s what it really means and then there is what the Democrats are hoping to make it mean come November 7th. Can you say Gaining Other Positions? Democratic gains have been piling up. Can what looks impressive 61 days ahead of the actual vote gain the Democrats mroe positions (seats) in the House and Senate? Continue Reading »
Lock And Load!
September 5, 2006
Right, wrong, or indifferent it appears that the strategy for Bush and the Republicans (whoever has the courage to so go) is to make Iraq their battle cry: terrorism the issue of the day! You could get the hint of it last week when Bush said he was preparing a series of messages on terrorism between now and 9-11. Since they couldn’t run from Iraq, they’ve decided to try and make it a plus. Can they? Continue Reading »
Thanks For The Favor
September 4, 2006
Don’t you just love it when you lend a person a hand and they take a bite out of it? Is this what Jesus meant by “turn the other cheek“? Is this what Vince Lombardi was talking about when he said show up fifteen minutes early for your appointment? Is this what Stephen Covey was saying about going the extra mile (or the Bible for that matter). Or is this just the way politics is done in 2006? Continue Reading »
Premature Celebration – Celebrate Day?
September 4, 2006
Right now the Democrats are salivating at their prospects for winning back the House and a 50-50 chance at the Senate as well. But, while there is glee in the Democratic party faithful, there is a reminder from the pollsters and key insiders that there are still 63 days to go and when the office of the President is in Republican hands, any celebration should be on hold until November 7th.
