Turning To Tehran

February 14, 2007

The brash, smash-mouth talking tyrant has fled the country. Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has left his base in Iraq for Iran. Two officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were discussing intelligence activities, cited the new Iraqi security crackdown as a reason for the departure of al-Sadr, who leads one of the largest insurgent militias in Iraq. What’s Oil Got To Do With Gold?

February 13, 2007

Black gold and just plain old gold have had an interesting history. The proverbial question is and continues to be, “can we learn from history?”. I sure hope so because if we can, I’ve made some good bets. Not to diminish or demean the buy in of gold at $275 an ounce several years ago, but I’ve been saying that gold is headed to $1,500 to $2,000 one day. Well, one day could be a thousand years if you’re interpretting it Bibically. I’m not and here’s why. Continue Reading »

The New Reporting Team

February 13, 2007

It shocked a lot of people when the LA Times reported that they might not even be in business in five years, and that the goal was to transition from print to the internet. The newspaper business has been on a long road down for years now. Can you also say network news? Move over NBC, CBS, and ABC, here I and a couple hundred thousand more come. Continue Reading »

A Monday Follow Up

February 12, 2007

Twenty four hours after I wrote the last commentary on the “Bush War Legacy”, I came across an article from Jim B. Powell. The article was being forward to me by Richard Maybury whom I have subscribed to for more than a decade now. The two of them are teaming up in various ways. Both men a strategists in the politicl, economic, and philosophical world goings-on. I was taken aback because in the Powell newsletter he was giving more specific facts about what written twenty four hours earlier. Here in part are some of his conclusions. Continue Reading »

The Bush War Legacy

February 10, 2007

Little did he know when he threw his hat in the ring that he would become a “war president“. But at this juncture in his presidency, with 22 more months to go, I wonder if the last couple of chapters in that legacy have been written. I lean to thinking more is yet to come. Iraq is very much unfinished business. Our pulling out in the near term could cause a domino effect of unintended events to be unleashed. Our staying in will only cause more deaths and greater division back here at home. Here’s what I think has a high probability of happening. Continue Reading »

Politics Is, Well, Politics!

February 8, 2007

Republican, Democrat, or Green Party Candidate, they all fall prey to the pride & power positions. There is no satisfying the ego- none! It was amazing that in the very first few bills that Nancy Pelosi pushed was one in which the minimum wage was increased in all states, and all territories except she had a voter base that had a vested interest.
