Defending The Indefensible?

July 19, 2007

One of the things that I learned early on in life was to be very cautious in how I came to a “conclusion“. I wasn’t always very successful. I have too often operated by the “seat of my pants“, and lost my shirt as a result. How ’bout them metaphors? But the ultimate learning curve came when i realized no matter how fast or slow I arrived at a position, I was to never be IDENTIFIED with it or have my IDENTITY in that decision. I think that it’s a lesson Bush has yet to learn. Continue Reading »

Time Is Running Out

July 18, 2007

Here’s the question for you America? Who do you want to run this nation for four years after Bush goes back to Crawford? Call it election fatigue or just downright non acceptance, but for whatever reasons, few seem happy with any of the existing candidates that want to be the next president of this land. The latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that nearly a quarter of Republicans are unwilling to back top-tier hopefuls Rudy Giuliani, John McCain or Mitt Romney, and no one candidate has emerged as the clear front-runner among Christian evangelicals. Such dissatisfaction underscores the volatility of the 2008 GOP nomination fight. And time is running out for those that have not yet announced. Continue Reading »

The Green Party

July 18, 2007

The Green party was founded in 1984. The Greens have achieved ballot access in 31 of the 50 states, over formidable opposition from the two major parties. Its platform starts with impeachment. They are dead serious about this too. Its candidates don’t accept corporate money, so as not to be beholden to forces of war and oil. The Green party is the party of peace, supporting nonviolence, demilitarization, and the use of diplomacy to settle international disputes. If you are worried about global warming, the Green party is true to its name, committed to ecologically wise policies. You could have probably guessed that though. Right? Continue Reading »

Some Statistics In America

July 17, 2007

Political parties are not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Parties are regulated by the laws and constitutions of the individual states, which organize elections to both local and federal offices. No laws limit the number of political parties that may operate, so it is theoretically a multi-party system. But, there is a Constitution party! Former Nixon Administration official and one-time Conservative Coalition chair Howard Phillips founded the US Taxpayers Party (USTP) in 1992 as a potential vehicle for Pat Buchanan to use for a third party White House run — had he agreed to bolt from the GOP in 1992 or 1996. The USTP pulled together several of the splintered right-wing third parties — including the once mighty American Independent Party — into a larger, more visible political entity. Renamed as the Constitution Party in 1999, the party is strongly pro-life, anti-gun control, and other far right Republican issues. But then there are “other” wild parties as wsell. Tell Me Who They Hate….Again!

July 17, 2007

Hugo Chavez came to the United States, at the U.N., and reminded the world of how Bush was a devil and America was the number one place in the world that people hated. I find it hard to understand his reasoning (can we call it that?) when everyone is coming here, or seemingly wants to. America is the immigration port of destination for ALL of the world. This is where you can make a fortune, be free, and live the best life of any place in the world. Downsides? Sure! But coming from Mr. Dictator of Venezuela this really makes no sense, especially in light of how poorly the nation of Venezuela is doing, and the dictatorship that he is setting up. As an example. Nader In 2008?

July 16, 2007

Ralph Nader has done nearly as much as Ross Perot to awaken the third party spirit in America. He is also one whom the Democrats always try to lend favor to in hopes that he’d not run, like he did in 2000, hurting the Democratic party as he pulls from the left. He has promoted a wide range of issues, including consumer rights, feminism, humanitarianism, environmentalism and other more left-leaning issues. But what about Ralph in 2008. Will he be a factor? Will The DOW be the NASDAQ?

July 16, 2007

Everyone one is making money in the stock market- everyone who SELLS stocks that is. Brokerage house love the two billion+ in shares traded daily. Actually last Thursday, there were 3.37 billion shares traded on the Dow. Bring it on. And the hype about how great the stock market is, particularly the Dow Index (just 30 stocks), is being headlined everywhere. Last week the Dow set a NEW RECORD HIGH, closing at 13,907. Let’s all run out and buy stocks this week! NOT! Continue Reading »

Looking At Italy & Germany

July 15, 2007

Generally as you look around at the political process in other free worlds, there’s usually two or three dominant COALITIONS that exchange tenure in running the nation, and within those coalitions there are numerous parties. What you see in these situations though is that every “political voice” is important because they’re needful to form a majority coalition. Let’s briefly look at two such nations and scenarios: Italy and Germany. Continue Reading »

Fewer Are Better?

July 14, 2007

The big political flap this past week was Hillary and Edwards caught talking about how they could squeeze out all the other guys so that they’d get more attention. Dennis Kucinich wasn’t too happy about that.
An angry Dennis Kucinich lashed out at John Edwards on Friday, saying his Democratic rival showed “a consistent lack of integrity” by suggesting fewer candidates should participate in presidential forums and then trying to explain his remark to reporters. This just illustrates again the political mentality in America for fewer, can you say “two party” system. Continue Reading »

An Al-Qaeda Party Pooper?

July 14, 2007

The Democrats are raising twice as much money as the Republicans primarily on the anti-war stance. Everyone is fed up with the war- until we get attacked again. So, what’s going to happen to all the pacifist voices when America is hit this summer? Think it not possible? I think it’s almost a guarantee, and I’m not trying to make some self-fulfilling prophecy here. Continue Reading »

McCain Is McWashed-up!

July 13, 2007

The hand writing has been on the wall all year long, but John McCain doesn’t give up easy. His years in a concentration camp, his injuries, and his hisgtory will tell you that. But, let’s be reasonable John. When Ron Paul has more cash on hand for the presidential race than you do, the fat lady has been singing for about an hour now. Give it up! Two veteran Republican strategists are abandoning John McCain’s campaign in Iowa, dealing another blow to a presidential bid still reeling from a major staff shake-up earlier this week. It’s over for McCain and no one is looking for his endorsement. Continue Reading »

Michael Is The Man

July 13, 2007

Ross Perot couldn’t do it, though he came close before he somehow emotionally or psychologically crashed and burned. That was sure a strange month when he went down in flames just when it looked like he was going to beat Bush and Clinton. Ross had a lot of money but he also had that hi-pitched squeaky voice. You do remember Ross don’t you? Henry Ross “The Boss” Perot (born June 27, 1930) is an American businessman from Texas. Perot founded Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 1962 and later sold the company to General Motors and founded Perot Systems. Perot is a billionaire. With an estimated net worth of around $4.3 billion as of 2006, he is ranked by Forbes as the 57th-richest person in America. And here is where the comparisons get interesting. Continue Reading »

Turn Out The Lights John!

July 12, 2007

Ed Failor Jr., said Thursday that he and Karen Slifka plan to notify McCain by letter of their decisions. Both are GOP operatives with deep ties in Iowa, which holds the first-in-the-nation caucuses, and national politics. “As much as I like Senator McCain, it’s not a team I’m willing to stay involved with any longer,” Failor said. Once the GOP front-runner, McCain’s second presidential candidacy has been foundering on all fronts. His support has dropped in national polls and his top GOP rivals, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, have easily outdistanced him in fundraising.

Did I mention Ron Paul has more cash on hand? :-(
