Where Is Fred?

October 15, 2007

Mitt Romney was in Michigan, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada and then went back to Michigan. Rudy Giuliani visited Florida, Michigan, South Carolina, Alabama, Washington and New Hampshire. John McCain went from Michigan to Iowa to New Hampshire. But where was Fred, as in Fred Thompson? Continue Reading »

Truth Is Definitely Inconvenient!

October 12, 2007

Surprise, surprise! Al Gore won (sahred) the Nobel Peace prize for his “political work” that is appropriately titled, “An Inconvenient Truth“. His work is full of it- inconvenient truths that have turned out to be falshoods- lies at best. And on teh day that he won the award, Muriel Newman, director of the New Zealand Centre for Political Research, told Academy President Sid Ganis and Executive Director Bruce Davis “the situation is not unlike that confronting sports bodies when their sports stars are found to be drug cheats.” Ouch! Another Week UP!

October 12, 2007

Gold finished off this week up nearly $7 to close out the Dec. contract at $753 an ounce. One of the reasons is the embedded inflation that’s not yet raised its ugly head. Oil closed out the week up nearly $3 (for one week) and now sits just under $84 a barrel. The US$ had rallied mid week, but still finished off the week slightly below where it began- near $78.25. We could be entering a time of trading range boredom unless something wild comes out of the woodwork: and that’s always entirely possible in this fantasy era we’re living.

Aeromigrante!

October 12, 2007

New Mexican discount airlines are using rock-bottom fares to cater to legal and illegal migrants heading for the USA. The airlines — known among fliers as Aeromigrante, or “Migrant Air” — take passengers from central or southern Mexico to cities along the northern border such as Tijuana and Mexicali. From there, customers make their way across the U.S. border. Continue Reading »

Calif. Judge Backs Immigrants

October 11, 2007

A federal judge has blocked a proposed rule requiring employers to fire workers whose names don’t match their Social Security numbers, dealing a major blow to the Bush administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Under the rule, businesses with employees whose names and Social Security numbers didn’t match would have three months to correct the mistakes or fire the employees. If not, they could face government prosecution. Continue Reading »

Gold price rockets to 27-yr high

October 11, 2007

The price of gold soared Thursday to the highest level since 1980 on the back of a waker US$. Spot god prices got as high as $748.10 dollars per ounce and $751 on the December contract. Gold closed up $11 for the day!

A Wednesday Win

October 10, 2007

Gold closed higher in Wednesday’s U.S. trading but gave back most of its early gains. December gold closed at $746.00, up $2.90 on the session. Bullion touched a weekly intraday high of $751.90 earlier in the session. The US$ fell to a 10-day low against the euro, boosting gold’s hedge appeal. As the greenback recoup some of its gains, however, gold slipped back lower. The precious metal often moves opposite the greenback in trading. As the dollar fell to record lows against the euro, gold recently hit a 27-year high before easing back slightly.

Local Immigration Inforcement Rises

October 10, 2007

Local and state law enforcement agencies throughout the country are taking unprecedented steps to police illegal immigration, a responsibility historically reserved for the federal government. So far this year, officers from 23 county and state agencies from Virginia to California have been trained under a 1996 federal law that allows them to make immigration arrests and process jailed illegal immigrants for deportation. That’s more than five times the number of training requests made to Immigration and Customs Enforcement in all of 2006. Continue Reading »

The Tuesday Turnaround

October 9, 2007

Gold reversed its earlier losses to trade back up towards $740, as the dollar weakened slightly ahead of the release of the minutes from the US Federal Reserve’s latest rate-setting meeting. The minutes of the Federal Reserve Open Markets Committee revealed the Fed’s deliberations prior to last month’s 50 basis point rate cut which showed grat cocnern for a weak market. The likelihood of a further interest rate cut has weakened the dollar, in turn strengthening gold which has an inverse relationship with the US currency, serving as an alternative investment. Analysts have cautioned that the movements in the gold market are currently minor, as the metal has paused for breath after its recent rally up to as high as $747.75- its highest point in almost 28 years.

Roboflies & Dragonflies?

October 9, 2007

Wait til the human rights activists hear about this. It’s one thing to have your conversations wire tapped and it’s quite another thing to have your actions not only recorded but watched. And I’m not talking airplane drones flying at 30,000 feet. How about a little “fly on the wall“? Ever wanted to be one? Necessity is the mother of invention so they aty. Continue Reading »

Mild Correction Continues

October 9, 2007

Gold extended losses on Monday and Tuesday as a firmer dollar prompted investors to trade cautiously ahead of the release of minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve’s meeting. The minutes from the U.S. central bank’s September meeting due out later in the day could move the dollar, and in turn gold, if they shed light on whether the U.S. central bank is likely to cut interest rates again in October. Gold is also under pressure because of a weaker euro, but the metal is still looking good and sentiment remains positive. However, prices might slip towards $725 in the short-term before rising again. Current Dec. contract is $735

He’s Baaaaack!

October 8, 2007

Sandy Berger, who stole highly classified terrorism documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and lied to investigators, is now an adviser to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Berger, who was fired from John Kerry’s presidential campaign when the scandal broke in 2004, has assumed a similar role in Clinton’s campaign, even though his security clearance has been suspended until September 2008. This is raising eyebrows even among Clinton’s admirers. Continue Reading »

38,000,000?

October 8, 2007

In separate rooms on overlapping morning hours at the National Press Club this week, two very different groups were launching the next rounds in the simmering immigration fight. In the Zenger Room, named for German immigrant John Peter Zenger, who helped establish free speech law, Californians for Population Stabilization released a study claiming there are 20 million to 38 million illegal immigrants in America, not the 12 million the federal government says. Limited Strikes?

October 8, 2007

British defence officials have held talks with their Pentagon counterparts about how they could help out if America chose to bomb Iran. Washington sources say that America has shelved plans for an all-out assault, drawn up to destroy the Iranian nuclear facilities and take out the Islamist regime. The Sunday Telegraph has learned that President Bush’s White House national security council is discussing instead a plan to launch pinpoint attacks on bases operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds force, blamed for training Iraqi militants.
