Iowa caucuses
November 30, 2007
We’re now just a little over a month away from the January 3rd Iowa caucus and a month ago the news media was talking about “mailing it in“. The winner is Hillary and Mitt! Ah, but that was a thirty day old news cycle. Stuff seems to happen in politics. Now the conventional wisdom is that it will be Barack & Huck. Who? It appears that Hillary Clinton’s prospects of capturing the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination and going on to take the White House are “a lot less certain” than they used to be. Maryland Peace Talks
November 29, 2007
The man just can’t stand people trying to make peace in the world, at least not while Israel is a nation and there’s one Jew left. While Bush was meeting in Maryland with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was mocking the meeting. Peace would be the worst thing in the world for him to see come about. Continue Reading »
House Divided
November 28, 2007
You’d think of all the people who understand Scripture, that bit would be the evangelicals; however, we all know there’s a big difference in knowing something and living it. A “house divided” will fall. So what’s that say for the tens of thousands of protestant denominations? Nothing good. But, I’m talking politics here. Continue Reading »
Housing Bubble
November 27, 2007
The red in at banks and lending institutions as a result of the housing bubble being burst isn’t anywhere near being over. Just wait until you see the 4Q ramifications as public companies make known their huge losses that will add to the already incredible debts that need to be written off. If you haven’t yet felt the impact of the nation’s credit crisis, don’t worry, you’ll not miss out on it because as goes real estate, so goes the rest of the economy. The housing bubble is at our front door. Continue Reading »
Future Planning
November 26, 2007
Where will your kids be in 2020? Where will America be in 2010? Where will you be in 2008? Life is short and there isn’t much to it when compared to eternity. The difficulty is that we’re not doing any planning whatsoever, or very little. Is anyone thinking about the future when we keep cutting down the rain forests or consider what that means when there aren’t any? How long will that take? How much longer before we have polluted the rivers, streams, and oceans beyond recovery? What’s the problem here? There’s no future planing! Continue Reading »
Foreclosure For Sale
November 24, 2007
We’ve not yet seen the end to the foreclosure bust! Foreclosure for sale signs are going up in the tens of thousands as we begin paying the price for the excessive living that the Federal Reserve has provided us. No one knows exactly where this will end. I have been saying ever since 2004 that the interest only, 125% loans, and massive refinancing to take out money to put into the stock market with radical ARM’s was a train wreck waiting to happen. And what we’re seeing now is like a low motion re-enactment of the wreck with the first fews cars being derailed. All those cars that are coming behind will pile up (foreclose) in the many months ahead. Continue Reading »
Gold Up 3.3% In One Day!
November 23, 2007
Gold futures rose for a third day, closing up $25 an ounce in an abbreviated post-holiday session after the dollar touched a new low against the euro, increasing the value of gold as an investment safe haven. Gold for December delivery settled up 3.3%, at $824.7 an ounce in thin trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest closing level since Nov. 12. It touched an intraday high of $825 earlier. The futures contract has been rising since Tuesday. The euro reached a new high of $1.4966 overnight as worries about the U.S. economy and the continuing credit crisis weighed on the dollar, but has since eased down to $1.4830. See Currencies. “The U.S. dollar started to look like on an overcooked turkey over the holiday recess, as fresh selling brought it to under the 75 mark on the index,” said Jon Nadler, a senior analyst at Kitco Bullion Dealers. “The greenback’s woes prompted renewed buying of gold.”
Economic Recession
November 23, 2007
As people get up at 4am in the morning to shop this first day after Thanksfiving, you’d never guess that there was an economic recession in the making. We may get a hint of the economic slow mdown by the end of December though as retail sales reports show that Americans are tapped out! And with consumer spending being 70% of our gross national product, how can there be anything other than at least a mild economic recession. Pray it’s not far worse! Continue Reading »
Thanksgiving
November 22, 2007
Who is there that we should not love, should not share a meal with, or join hands this holiday season to thank the one true God of all regardless of the name we give the Creator. Call the Creator of ALL, God, Allah, Buddha, Zoraster, Yahweh, Gud, Brahman, Shen, Ek Onkar, Aten, Mithras, Ahura Mazda, or the Infinite Intelligence, we should be THANKFUL this holiday weekend that we have life and that we can FREELY WORSHIP OUR GOD! Back Above $800
November 21, 2007
Buy the turkey and all the fixins as gold has recovered and is back north of $800 an ounce! Gold held above the key $800 level on Wednesday, rising to its loftiest level in nearly a week as the dollar tumbled to a record low against the euro and crude oil hit a new peak. Spot gold hit an intraday high of $805.10 an ounce in early trading. “It looks like a weak dollar and strong oil are going to be around for a while … and there’s been no dramatic change in the market environment,” Tatsuo Kageyama, analyst at Kanetsu Asset Management said.
In Search Of Stupidity
November 21, 2007
I think we’ve found the stupid button!
We can’t drill for oil in Alaska because it might turn the white snow black. We can’t drill off the shores of Florida because it might chase off the shrimp and oysters. We can add new refineries anywhere in America (and have not for 20+ years) because they emit a foul order and sent pollutants into the air. So, let’s do nothing, buy our oil from other nations, and send them our US$’s so they can buy the weapons to kills us and take over our nation in a few years down the road. Then they can drill wherever THEY can drill for the oil we wouldn’t. Continue Reading »
Turn-Around Tuesday
November 20, 2007
Gold futures rose sharply Tuesday, boosted by the euro’s surge to a new record high against another record low for the dollar. Gold for December delivery gained $14.00, or 1.7%, at $792 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Other metals prices also posted gains.
Dynamic Duo
November 20, 2007
The dynamic duo isn’t Batman and Robin. Today, the dynamic duo is Chavez and Ahmadinejad . The presidents of Venezuela and Iran boasted Monday that they will defeat U.S. imperialism together, saying the fall of the dollar is a prelude to the end of Washington’s global dominance. Hugo Chavez’s visit to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran followed a failed weekend attempt by the firebrand duo to push the Organization of Petroleum Exporting States away from trading in the slumping greenback. Gold Hits 3-week Low
November 19, 2007
We’re officially into the first correction in a long time as gold falls below $780 an ounce. And to think, I sold some last week at $840. We’re quickly moving to a 10% correction mode. Then the question is what’s going to happen? Another 5% down, or sideways, or back up? If we knew that answer we’d all be rich! By the way, gold closed down $9 today!
