Great Coral Reefs

December 17, 2007

They aren’t as great as they used to be!

The actual “Great Coral Reef” is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. It is so large and massive that it can be seen from outer space. It is the world’s biggest single structure made by living organisms. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. And it is dying! Global warming? Continue Reading »

Bali Agreement!

December 16, 2007

America finally blinked!

In a dramatic finish to a U.N. climate conference, world leaders adopted a breakthrough plan Saturday to broker a new pact by 2009 to battle global warming, after the United States backed down in a dispute with developing nations and Europe. Undersecretary of State, Paula Dobriansky reversed herself, allowing the adoption of the so-called “Bali Roadmap.” Is Bush softening? Continue Reading »

The Greenhouse Effect

December 14, 2007

The greenhouse effect that Al Gore thinks is new stuff has been around since it was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824 and first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. Global warming, a recent warming of the Earth, is believed to be the result of increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is the process in which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warms a planet’s surface. Continue Reading »

Mind Altering Drugs

December 13, 2007

I think that it is amazing that the likes of Aldous Huxley and more recently Daniel Pinchbeck of 2012 fame, made it through their mind-altering experiments. Huxley, in his book the Doors Of Perception, tried to articulate what he’d experienced with mescaline. Here’s my take on this two-sided coin. Continue Reading »

Global Warming Effects

December 12, 2007

Al Gore is not going to take any back up position in a Hillary Clinton presidency. Well, tell us something we don’t know! He says that if he’s ever to enter politics again it will be as a candidate for president. What he didn’t say is that he wants to wait another four more years to see how many of his global warming ideas are correct. Don’t we all! Continue Reading »

Mystery Stories

December 11, 2007

What is there that you can truly believe in today? Must every story be a mystery? Even the press that used to be reputable and fair is now so biased and prejudicial to their editors views that nothing is believable. An event can be reported in two different newspapers with totally different headlines indicating the opposite of what the other one said. Continue Reading »

DNA Fingerprinting

December 10, 2007

The human genome project was complted in 2003. It was a 13-year project coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health. Though the HGP is finished, analyses of the data will continue for many years. The two primary objectives of the project were to: identify all the approximately 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA and determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA.

New Reality

December 7, 2007

We live in a radically new world- with new realities!

Just think how we communicated with each other today verses just twenty years ago. In 1987, I mailed letters to people that I had written on a device called a typewriter instead of a computer. I paid my bills with a check instead of direct deposit. I watched one of three major networks instead of choices between dozens of cable networks. I communicated with multiple people on a conference call instead of sending and email to thousands or millions in a nano second. A few of the new realities! Continue Reading »

Enforcing Normalcy

December 6, 2007

What is normal in today’s world?

If I am a Republican and you’re a Democrat, I’m not normal. What’s wrong with me? Why am I not excited about Hillary being the next president. The GOOD NEWS is that it’s hard for you to force your political views on me. The BAD NEWS is that there are way too many aspects to life and society where we are forced into a normalcy or the consequences can be traumatic. Continue Reading »

What Is Enlightenment

December 5, 2007

The path to enlightenment isn’t the one most followed by our politicians and leaders. It seems as though every nation has it’s answers. One would hope that the church would be of help; however, it seems to be wrapped up in providing answers to questions that no one is asking. Eugene Ionesco put it this way, “It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.” Continue Reading »

Future Problem Solving

December 4, 2007

If we don’t start looking to the long term aspects of life on earth, we’re going to wait until it’s too late to save the planet! Yes, the planet! Eckhart Tolle had it right when he wrote his book the Power Of Now; however, that didn’t mean to live selfishly for us without any forethought to what we might be passing on to our children and grand children. A Trading Range?

December 4, 2007

What looked to be a “correction” three weeks ago is seemingly turning out to be mroe of a “tranding range“. A season wherein gold is up, down, upo, down, and basivally going nowhere over a few weeks- or maybe until some “event” changes that. Gold was up $13 today to firmly get back over the $800 level. Currency fundamentals dominated sentiment as the dollar weakened versus the euro, making dollar-priced gold cheaper for non-U.S. investors. Analysts also noted gold had benefited from its safe-haven appeal as dips in stock markets and U.S. government bond yields attracted wider investment from buyers looking for shelter from problems in global credit markets.

Dictatorship Stalled

December 3, 2007

Venezuelans are traitors!

Hugo Chavez had said that anyone who voted NO on making him a dictator for life (of Venezuela) was a TRAITOR. Well, it appears that the majority of the country are traitors. And you know, some heads are going to roll. It may take a little more time to complete the dictatorship in Venezuela, but Hugo has the time

President Hugo Chavez suffered a stunning defeat Monday in a referendum that would have let him run for re-election indefinitely and impose a socialist system in this major U.S. oil provider. Voters defeated the sweeping measures Sunday by a vote of 51 percent to 49 percent. Voter turnout was just 56 percent. Continue Reading »
