A MILITARY MAKE-OVER!

April 28, 2004

The two most conservative institutions in the world are usually the military and the church. Both are traditionally well planted in concrete mindsets and paradigms. You would think that the military at least would have to be on the cutting edge, but history shows that to not be the case.

We have in the “Don” (as in Rumsfeld), a radical who tells it like it is, and goes against most political correctness. He’s out to reform our military and he’s made his point(s) in Afghanistan and Iraq. He might get another chance or two in Syria and Iran before it’s all over.

Right now, he’s cleaning house with the Army. In spite of the political restraints, he’s doing it “his way”. Frank Sinatra would be proud. Now that we’re in Iraq, he’s moving our troops out of Saudi Arabia. We have 112,000 troops in Europe at some 499 installations. France is looking to replace NATO with their own defense, so let’s get out of Dodge.

Nearly half of those 112,000 troops are in Germany, and after their stand on Iraq, why not move them to a more friendly nation. And, while he’s at it, expect him to pull some 30,000 troops out of S. Korea. After all, we’ve spent more than ONE TRILLION on our troops in S. Korea since that war.

When he steps down as Secretary of Defense one day, maybe he can turn his attention to the church. God knows the church could use a little “straight-talk”.
