Bling, Bling, and BLING!
December 2, 2008
Hey, hey, hey! Barack Obama is set to be the first BILLION DOLLAR man (in political fund raising) and Michelle Obama is set to receive a $30,000 diamond studded rhodium ring. Ah, to live like the common folks from Chicago. The world is suffering from the greatest economic turmoil since the Great Depression, but we can all be encouraged. Our new president and his wife are setting the example of how to live. Aren’t they?
Now, while the billion dollar man number is of public record, there seems to be some controversy over the ring.
The communications for Obama’s transition, Dan Pfeiffer, flatly denied a Daily Mail report that Obama is buying an exotic $30,000 ring to thank his wife “for her support during the election.” The report is sourced to an anonymous spokesman for the manufacturer of the rhodium ring, who is quoted claiming, “Our agent in the United States was asked by Mr. Barack Obama about the ring because he wants it as a thank-you gift for his wife, Michelle, for her support the last two years.”
Maybe this is a story for Greta! Sounds almost as intriguing as the Halloway story. NOT!
Nearly two years ago, Barack Obama muscled his way into the top tier of presidential contenders by breaking fundraising records. When the 2008 campaign books are closed, the Democratic president-elect will shatter another record by coming close to, or capturing, the title of the first billion-dollar candidate. That’s roughly how much the Obama finance team will have raised for his campaign, convention, transition and Jan. 20 Inauguration events.
So, if Sarah Palin wants to carry the Republican presidential banner in 2012, she needs to drill a few more oil wells in Alaska because one is going to need at least a BILLION in 2012 to challenge for the top spot. And we used to think we knew what bling bling was. It’s grown up!
