Bloomberg Investigates Openly
January 9, 2008
For a year now, Bloomberg has said he wasn’t running for President. For a year now his aides have said he wouldn’t consider it until we knew who the two parties would nominate as their presidential choices. If ever we DID NOT know who each party was going to select I would say that it’s now after New Hampshire. So, what’s Bloomberg doing?
But, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has begun detailed polling and highly sophisticated voter analysis in all 50 states as he considers an independent bid for president, associates said Wednesday. The exhaustive data collection quietly started months ago, and when the analysis begins shortly, it will provide the data-obsessed billionaire businessman with the information he will use to decide whether to launch a third-party run for the White House.
And now we know what I’ve been saying for a year. He’s interested!
New Yorkers aren’t all that excited about his interest though. Some recent polling (can anyone count on polling after New Hampshire)? Fifty-two percent of New York City voters say Mayor Michael Bloomberg would make a good president but only 34 percent would vote for him, a poll released on Wednesday said. By several measures, the Quinnipiac University poll showed less than majority support for a Bloomberg presidential campaign by voters who twice sent him to City Hall and still give him a 73 percent approval rating. Just sixteen percent would like to see Bloomberg run for the White House, the poll said.
Wonder if he cares about that poll?
The scope of the research, details of which were revealed to The Associated Press, demonstrates how seriously Bloomberg is considering running for president, despite his almost-daily denials that he isn’t entering the race. The extensive coast-to-coast research effort shows that Bloomberg is willing to dig deep into his wallet simply to gauge his chances of winning and lining up the proper support network along the way.
And his wallet is deep too!
And that’s one of the things that make him such a formidable candidate. He can throw a HALF BILLION of his own money in the pot and not miss it. And guess what? The theme of CHANGE that seems to be resonating with the American public to the point where everyone is using it, is exactly what Bloomberg would represent. A major change- to a third party candidate!
