BREAKING OLD PARADIGMS!
December 25, 2003
As we begin celebrating Kwanzaa and head into the New Year, I think it’s way past time for us to start thinking in a new fashion. We are in a new century, headed to a new year, and facing all-new religious and international wars.
Let me refer to two recent events that point out our need to be delivered from old ways of thinking. The first was the D.C. Sniper saga. Several people had pointed out that they saw two dark-skinned men, especially in the Virginia Home Depot shooting. They also said they saw a car speeding away and not a white van.
But, authorities had a profile that they were following (from the past) and that involved a white man who was a loner carrying out his hurt in a destructive, taunting way. So, how many people lost their lives because we were looking for a ghost of years past and not the new realities?
Currently, we’re trying to track down the anthrax killer and we’re sure we know what his profile is like. He’s a disgruntled white male who worked in a U.S. lab and was most probably fired or overlooked for a promotion. So, the FBI is chasing after Dr. Hatfill.
I think one day soon we’ll find out that it was not a loner with a few thousand to spend, but a government backing several men who had tens of thousands of dollars to spend.
While I applaud our FBI and CIA, I also hope that they will quit relying on the stale past and begin looking at the new realities. It’s going to take more than a new set of glasses, it’s going to take a major paradigm shift, a new way of thinking, and a lot of risk!
