Can Prayer Help?

February 19, 2008

Even the atheist cries out for help when the plane loses 2 of it’s 4 engines at 35,000 feet. And that cry is for God’s help! So, can prayer help us as we move towards what many think is the end of the world (not my thining, but let’s address it). While December 21, 2012 is more than four years away, time flies! Since I do pray every day and since prayer, centering, meditation, and contemplation are concepts that I embrace. I’d say prayer does help!

It’s been said that the most often type of prayer is very simply and to the point. It’s call the Mayday prayer. It goes exactly like this HELP ME! HELP ME! And when your prayers have not been answered, be thankful. Thank God that you are still alive and have the ability TO PRAY!

Or as has been said by the most wise of men. There are two tragedies in life. One is that you don’t get what you pray for- your heart’s desire. The other is that you do get what you pray for! I’m not a Catholic, so let me share another possibility (tongue in cheek). Lawrence Joseph wrote, “Don’t forget Mary! A nicer, more loving mother could not exist. Don’t piss her off. Mary is the one your turn to when God and Jesus just don’t want to hear it any more. Lose her and you roast for sure.”

And speaking of Mother! It’s not too late to save the planet!

Don’t forget to pray to what we’re standing on to save us from what’s out there over our heads. Give Gaia thanks!
The Gaia hypothesis is an ecological hypothesis. It proposes that living and nonliving parts of the earth are a complex interacting system that can be thought of as a single organism. Named after the Greek earth goddess, this hypothesis postulates that all living things have a regulatory effect on the Earth’s environment that promotes life overall.

In other words, Mother Earth is alive and she’s really not too happy with how we’ve been treating her. Talk about an abused spouse! Global warming is just one small part of the picture. There is so much that we’ve done that simply cannot be undone, but at least we can stop the erosion, the physical abuse. There is a feminine energy that needs to be protected.

But in all seriousness, 2012 notwithstanding, we have to change how we’re living, who are are becoming, and get serious about developing our inner man, our spirit, our consciousness. I don’t know of any way that one can do that short of slowing down, and yes PRAYING!
