Most people don’t have a very high standard placed on politicians. And politicians from Louisiana or Illinois have an even lower threshold for honesty and integrity. Why, you can take a 100,000 bribe, stuff the money in your freezer and pretend all is legal when you get caught. And then get re-elected. No big deal. If the Democrats win 60 seats in the Senate next week, you can blame it partly on Senator Ted Stevens, or at least it sure looks that way to me as a result of his guilty verdict yesterday. If anyone thinks that the president of the United States is not power, they need to just look back at what George W. Bush did in the eight years that he was in office. He went against the majority of Americans on many issues and against most of the world in general. However, that was only because Congress was still practically in the hands of his conservative Republican base.
