The two words may not seem to fit as hand in glove but look at it from this angle. All those who walk the high wires have to be able to sway, weave, and maneuver with the vibrations of the wire. If he is not flexible, he will surely fall. We too will fall, lose our jobs, or not get a promotion if we’re not able to “roll with the proverbial punches.” Work changes, life changes, and if we do not change, we will become fossilized and buried, to be found somewhere down the road in time.

How far do we Americans walk with a brother? The general answer is not very far. The specific answer is until we are inconvenienced. One of the things that prosperity has brought us and unexpectedly so is an intolerance for many things. Proof of the pudding can be seen in the divorce rate and the reasons for a divorce. You can get divorced today just because you want to! It’s not the fault of anyone! We are quick to jump into many things and just as quick to jump out of them. There is something in the fallen nature of man that wants to keep him there. Why would a sane person do something that would do harm to SELF. The EGO is far smarter than to do that except, except it does it. So, there must be something that is built in to our psyche that does push the “self-destruct” button. I believe that the “something” I am referring to has to do with the “instruction manual” as to how to “operate” that which we call our lives. We all have a tendency to SEE the WRONG that exists in other people’s lives and that would be okay if there were two conditions attached to it. First, can we keep what we see to ourselves and do all we can to help the situation? Secondly, can we then look in the mirror and see what’s wrong with us and work on that? There is this mindset in man that seems to think that if we see something wrong in someone else that we are “deputized” by some secret power to correct and otherwise oversee that situation. Wrong!

We are NOT alone! You’ve heard that line before but we act like it’s just that: a “line”. We are all in this together and it has been built upon the shoulders of those who went before: usually the ones that we are putting down for one reason or another. One day we will hand off the proverbial “baton” and while that is very important, what we’re “handing off” now is just as important. Maybe more so. Why is it that so many people wait until they are dead to pass on some of the inheritance? Too often we get too specialized in this world that is filled with more knowledge than anyone can comprehend. Doctors who practice general medicine have given way to nose, throat, ear, and you name it specialists, that have a hard time recognizing a part of the human anatomy that they don’t treat. In like fashion, we have many people who are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. People who only see and relate to the spirit side of man: hyper spiritual! Them we get those who get off in to the flesh (soul) and emphasize feelings and error on the side of emotionalism. Seldom do we find those who error on the third part of the triune man: the body! Of course, where you START in life is always an important factor. Inheriting a fortune really gives a person a good head start though it certainly is not an indicator as to where one will ultimately finish. How one will finish is greatly dependent upon a word and a warning that is found in the Bible quite often. It centers around two terms: slothful and sluggard. There are few principles that man generally understands, agrees with, and then goes off and does the opposite of this principle. It cannot be violated! Synergy is a fairly new word to out vocabulary. From a business standpoint, franchising has ushered this concept into the layman’s vocabulary. Ray Kroch, the founder of McDonalds probably was not aware of what he was doing when he bought into the hamburger concept back in the 50’s, but once the original red and white units with the golden arches started to add up the number of hamburgers sold, and MILLIONS turned into BILLIONS, synergy was in vogue! How do you explain to an 8 year old who has little interest in the DISCIPLINE of playing T-ball that all things being EQUAL (and they hardly ever are) that the difference in his playing versus another boy is how much zeal or enthusiasm he shows the coach. Guess what. It doesn’t stop with the eight year old laying T-ball. Enthusiasm will serve us all the way through life.
