Be Willing To Do The Dirty Work!
April 20, 2007
It is interesting what we as children seem to carry with us and remember through life. I could not have been more than five years old when I remember cleaning out an old medal trash can that set under our sink where there was no dishwasher. It was my grandmothers house and so therefore I had even less responsibility than if I were at home. It was as yucky as anything I could imagine. I can remember doing it though because my grandmother had told me that “as you go through life, do the things that no one else wants to do and you will be PROMOTED!” And then there was this saying by some wise but anonymous person, “The best way to keep your children out of hot water is to put some dishes in it.” Continue Reading »
Have The Ability To Delegate
April 16, 2007
I’ve mentioned that we all have just 168 hours in a week which means with all things being equal, we’re all EQUAL! Duh! What makes us different? What gives us the ability to get ahead and do spectacular things is our ability to get others to work FOR US! If I can get someone else to give me a good 40 hour work week, I’ve now increased my capability from 168 to 208! IF I can get ten people to join ranks and work for me, I’ve now moved to 568 hours. You can do the math on 100 and 1000! “No man is able of himself alone to do all things.” Homer

Be Organized!
April 5, 2007
“Dig a well BEFORE you are thirsty” Chinese Proverb
To be ORGANIZED is what’s RATIONAL in life: what is EXPECTED. It means that we are able to function within formal structures (families, civic groups, work, etc.). However, one of the things that we find in life today is that basically man tends towards “disorganization” without an effort! There is a proclivity within man to lean or tend to non-disciplinary behaviors. In fact, one of the interesting facts of life is that which is shown by conscription. Nations which have a mandatory draft or on-going conscription policy find more order and discipline. Continue Reading »
Finish What You Start!
March 28, 2007
Let’s start with a good Biblical principle from Paul, “I have fought a good fight. I have FINISHED my course…” II Tim. 4:7
And add a German Proverb, “He who begins too much accomplishes too little.”
We live in a world without fences: a global community! We live in a world with few boundaries: at best the lines are blurred. We live in a world of multiple options! It is therefore very easy to get caught up in the “opportunity trap”. We take on too many assignments at work. We have too many social commitments and not enough covenants. We have too many people tugging at us from every angle. And, with the exponential growth of knowledge in the world today, who can say NO? Continue Reading »
Develop Good Communication Skills
March 12, 2007
One of the biggest problems in organizations today and life in general is that we don’t know how to communicate with one another. There aren’t as many “differences” as we think once we’re able to communicate properly. Interestingly, the majority of our communication is non verbal! We go through the day “communicating” and don’t even know it. People READ that communication and draw conclusions that aren’t valid and all of a sudden, we’ve got problems Houston! It is sometimes easier to draw a picture. “Communicating is depositing a part of yourself in another.” Anon Continue Reading »
Finish Every Job!

Paul put it this way, “I have fought a good fight. I have FINISHED my course…” II Tim. 4:7

Singleness Of Purpose
January 29, 2007
As knowledge doubles every 4-5 years in our modern day society, there is a quiet but seductive and de- structive spirit that beckons us to do MANY things: more than we’re capable! We have each been individually engineered to be able to accomplish just one or a couple of things really well. But, as we go through life, we take on responsibility after responsibility as though there were no end to our capabilities. As a result of this combination of greed, arrogance, and out right stupidity, we find ourselves stressed out and ailing in body and spirit. Our digital environment has only exponentially increased the problem. Here’s why. Continue Reading »
Increase Self Discipline
January 23, 2007
“He that performs his own errand, saves the messengers hire”. Danish Proverb
Though she is know more for her singing and acting, Julie Andrews had it right when she addressed the major obstacle to self discipline in saying, “Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me, it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.” We won’t get very far in life without being disciplined or leading a disciplined lifestyle. Most often discipline is a “training” or a “process” that one must go through to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior. We’re not going to get very far without some sort of discipline and therefore, we have two choices. Continue Reading »
Improve Your Productivity
January 8, 2007
The sales forces of America are dropping rapidly because there is something that’s inherent in the job that brings fear to many. People on commission are paid what they are WORTH! The internet has been properly credited with bringing in a wave of increased productivity in the decade of the 90’s.
I can with the touch of a finger send out a newsletter to thousands of people at cost; whereas, someone in South Africa will need two days to fax 50 letters. The phones don’t work, the electricity shuts down in the middle of the operation. A reply comes back that their fax was smudged, another reports page 3 missing, etc. But, we can’t just rely upon technology alone to increase our productivity because in a very competitive labor market (which we’re now in) a minor productivity gain may make the difference not just in a PROMOTION or not, but whether or not you can keep your job! Know Your Strengths
January 1, 2007
Contrary to what many of my TEACHERS told me as I was growing up, “I cannot be ANYTHING I want to be.” I can only BE what I was CREATED and BUILT to be! At birth the human embryo looks like three pipes encased within one another. The outer layer, which is called the ecto, determines our brain and head shape as well as the coetaneous areas. The inner layer, the mezo, determines our muscles and bone structure. The inner layer, the endo, determines the internal organ sizes and shapes. Which one predominates in the early stages affects how we live much of our life both physically and emotionally. So, how do you want to begin this new year? Continue Reading »

Honor Your Boss!
December 26, 2006
“If you wish to know what a man is, place him in authority.” Yugoslav Proverb There are many two-edged swords in life and how we respond to AUTHORITY is one of the most critical that we can handle. Two err on either side is to be at a great disadvantage. A fast way to losing one’s job is to disregard the lines of authority (chain of command) or to adhere to them to a fault. Just look at the lives that were destroyed in the Nixon administration to see where BLIND LOYALTY can lead you. But, on the other hand, to ignore the
Be More Optimistic!
December 6, 2006
There are basically two ways to live this life: happy or sad. Why would one choose, on purpose, to be sad or pessimistic when just by exercising our will, one could be happy and or optimistic? And yet, every day people choose to be despondent, sad, and pessimistic in their outlook of life thereby by self fulfilling prophecy, sealing their fate. “The EVENT is not important, but the RESPONSE to the event is every- thing.” I Ching Continue Reading »
Lighten Up A Little!
December 1, 2006
If you want to move along and get a long, you need to have a sense of humor. “Good humor makes all things tolerable” said Henry Ward Beecher. Scientists tell us that it takes five times as many muscles to frown as it does to smile. Sociologists tell us that peaceful societies have longer life spans. The Bible tells us that a happy personality is like medicine. With so much backing, you’d think people would get the fact that we need to “loosen up” and enjoy life a little more, but unfortunately too many people take life too seriously.
