Passionately Motivated
November 26, 2006
“Govern your passions or they will govern you.” Latin proverb
The church has historically looked upon sex, passion, and emotion with fear and embarrassment while at the same time talking about intimacy as though it were divorced from the former concepts. There is great opportunity for devastation to come out of things related to passion; however, to live without passion is to fall to a similar fate indeed! How is it that God could demand that we either be on fire, hot, and full of passion for Him or else be cold, anti, and negative towards Him and His works? How could a loving God tell us to be “hot or cold” but NEVER LUKEWARM? I think the answer is found in that which beckons us to live lives that are ALIVE! Continue Reading »
Lead By Example
November 22, 2006
“Example is the greatest of all seducers.” French proverb
People will eventually DO as you DO and not as you SAY! This does not mean that we can say anything because no one is paying attention. What the expression tries to convey is more to watching out what we model or do because people will eventually use us as an excuse to do what’s in their flesh anyway! So much of our success is due to WHAT WE DO both in private and in public. Continue Reading »
Begin With The End In Mind
October 18, 2006
Some say that it’s “not where you begin, but where you end.” While I agree with the last part of that statement, nothing could be further from the truth than the first part. IF you believe that we were created by a Creator and that He formed us for a PURPOSE: then to do something other than that purpose would be a waste of time. If there is truly a purpose, then the faster we tap into that purpose the more successful we will be. In other words, we have to follow the PLAN. We have to conform to the MOLD! Continue Reading »
Acquire A Strong Work Ethic
October 13, 2006
My mother used to tell me over and over again as a child that if I ever wanted to be a success, I just needed to get a good education and work hard. Today, we have people with all kinds of degrees and certificates and they live in poverty all of which points out that my mother was right, because no matter the education and intelligence, without HARD WORK, you’re going nowhere. And, in today’s digital cyberspace world, work in terms of sweat or effort is harder to acquire or understand. What’s so hard about typing in front of a monitor? Serendipity and luck are still in the equation but they play a very small role. Continue Reading »
Don’t Settle For The Status Quo
September 27, 2006
“Even when I was young I suspected that much might be done in a better way.” Henry Ford Sr.
We are living in a time of incredible acceleration of technology and information. Corporations that do not innovate and pour much into R&D will find themselves soon out of business. In like fashion, every worker in America particularly, must learn to adjust both emotionally and mentally. You don’t have to necessarily be the first in the market place with an idea, though that helps! Continue Reading »
Know Your Weaknesses
September 21, 2006
Self righteous is way too rampant here in religious America”. While we expect of Jesus that He excel as part of the Godhead (His divinity), what we have to be amazed by is His HUMANITY! In Him there was no sin! However, there was human weakness and emotion. He got tired, hungry, weary, etc. So, why is it that we have such a hard time admitting to our WEAKNESSES?
“Great ABILITIES produce great VICES as well as VIRTUES.” Greek Proverb
Develop Intuitiveness
September 8, 2006
“The intuitive mind will tell the thinking mind where to look next” Dr. Jonas Salk
We now embark upon a “sensitive and touchy” area for most Christians but one that is mostly a matter of semantics than theology. The dictionary tells us that intuition is “a direct knowing of something without the conscious use of reasoning.” Christians might call this a “word of knowledge”. The individual on the street would call it a “gut feeling”. The intellectual might call it “a flash” of brillianc e, an awakening intuition. Call it what you want, but call upon it! Intuitive thinking and business intuition is a must in a dog-eat-dog world. Continue Reading »
Self Learner
September 5, 2006
“Experience is a good teacher but her bills are terrific!” Minna Antrim
In this age of the internet and with “information” doubling every 3.5 years, to not be a “self learner” is suicide and a sure way to go through life impoverished. We don’t have time to stay in school all our life (which could easily be done today) and as my introductory quote says above, experience is too harsh of a teacher; so all that we can
reasonably do is “keep educating ourselves”. And, the good news is that it’s incredibly CHEAP! Work experience and life experience is expensive. Continue Reading »
Proactive Planning
August 26, 2006
“Fools curse the darkness, while wisdom lights a candle” Unknown
The world is being swamped by Anything.com corporations and they are making a bundle (if but temporary). The heads of these corporations, which are by and large the hi-tech companies, are to a great degree run by men and women who have a couple of things in common. They don’t accept NO as a solution and they are PIONEERS! They are not setting back and waiting for someone to give them a “go ahead”. I’m talking about those who subscribe to proactive planning. They also subscribe to the old Jesuit principle that says, “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission”. Continue Reading »
Building Self Confidence
August 22, 2006
“Doubt whom you will but never yourself” C. N. Bovee
The quote above may be offensive to some Christians but I am sure Christ understood and was full of confidence as a pattern for us to follow. True confidence in self comes from a knowledge of who you are in Christ and that you know that you’re following His will for your life! So, when you get down to it, something like ten percent of the people are CONFIDENT! But, one who is confident is neither too aggressive nor too passive, but rather, they are assertive! Partner Trust
August 19, 2006
“To be TRUSTED is a greater compliment than to be LOVED!” George MacDonald
No one can under estimate the power of TRUST! Whever you go to work you are entering into a partnership with the employer, employee, and other co-workers. To not comprehend that is to shorten your tenure. It is the foundation of a right relationship not only between employer and employee, but, between all of humanity in all of its efforts. A Greek proverb says it another way, “He who mistrusts most should be trusted least”. The concept of TRUST is so fundamental to life that to lose it is to lose not only your credibility but, you standing and authority. Continue Reading »
Dress for Success
August 14, 2006
“It is an interesting question how far men would retain their relative rank if they were divested of their clothes.” Henry David Thoreau
One of the areas where most people are conservative in the work place is in the area of dress! Books have been written on how one should ‘dress for success’ but it goes deeper than that. One should dress not just for success but for ‘themselves’ and for the ‘confidence building’ that therein produces such success! Continue Reading »
Risk Assessment
August 7, 2006
“Taking a calculated risk is quite different from being rash”. General Patton
One of the main questions being asked by job applicants today centers around what is being offered in the way of health insurance, dental, disability, retirement, etc. If your company does not offer these options or incentives, you’ll find yourself at a disadvantage in competing for good talent. In like fashion, your employer is going to get a wrong impression of you if you are more concerned about these options than what your top side potential in earnings is. Who wants to work on COMMISSIONS today? We’re a culture that is looking for GUARANTEES! We want to INSURE everything. There are to be NO RISKS in life today. Continue Reading »
DIAGNOSE, then PRESCRIBE
August 4, 2006
“The HEART has it’s REASONS which reason knows not of .” Pascal
Two words which are mistaken used as being synonymous are SYMPATHY and EMPATHY. Sympathy is basically just “harmony of agreement” which does not have to have any understanding or sincerity. Empathy is an “identification” with the person and problem. We let our feelings get in the way and wind up doing more harm than good when people are in need of help and assistance. Communication is one of the most important attributes and skills that sets human beings apart from other living things. That we can SPEAK is a miracle. May we treat speech as such.
