Cause & Effect

July 5, 2008

We seem to be so fixated on cause and effect that we lose sight of asking what causes the CAUSE? Today’s fiction is tomorrow’s reality. The Buck Rogers space travel was once thought pure fiction, but today reality makes yesterday’s fiction look like child’s play. Can a thought or a story innocently told today become the CAUSE of some EFFECT in the future?

Let me relate two events separated by just fourteen years. Call it weird, call it crazy, call it circumstantial, but some choose to call it the cause and effect of thinking.

1-In 1998 Morgan Robertson wrote a novel called Futility.
In 1912 White Star Line built a cruise liner.

2-Robertson’s visionary liner was 880 feet long while the real ship was 882 feet long

3-Robertsons imaginary ship displaced 70,000 tons while the real one displaced 2% less.

4-Robertson’s imagianry ship was built to carry 3,000 people and the goal was to transport only the wealthy
The real ship carried 3,000 people and the maiden voyagers were worth $250,000,000.00! That’s a lot of money for 1912.

5-Robertson’s ship only had enough room for 1500 life boats, the same as the real ship.

6-Robertson named his imaginary ship Titan- the real ship carried the name Titantic.

How much of our idol thoughts produce realities we’re seldom aware? Or as William Blake has said, “Nothing stands between us and the fulfillment of our dreams but the FACTS- and facts are the creations of our own thoughts and imaginations. If you change your imaginations, you will change the facts.”

Scary stuff, but nonetheless real!
