Choosing Political Phrases

September 29, 2006

The 2006 election reminds me of the abortion story. It all comes down to who can have the best phrase or motto that resonates with the public. The strategy by abortionists to pick PRO CHOICE  as their banner was marvelous. Who in America, of all places, doesn’t want to have a CHOICE and when you add “pro” to it? In like fashion I think Bush has the Democrats on their heels by his decision to set the tone of the fall off-year election in terms of victory or defeat!

Choosing the right political phrase is especially critical in an off-year election where interest isn’t all that great. Picking a phrase that creates and stirs up emotions within the public is key!

Only recently has it been public that Henry Kissinger has been advising President Bush and Vice President Cheney about Iraq, telling them that “Victory is the only meaningful exit strategy!” There you have it!

For this campaign and election you get to choose betwen victory and or defeat: victory or “cut and run“. At least that’s what Karl Rove and company is trying to get across. And the interesting thing about Henry Kissinger’s involvement is that he was so upset that we lost the war in Viet Nam simply because America lost her “will“. A major victory was lost due to political opposition back home.

So far the message seems to resonating with the public as his approval ratings are on the rise as he is chasing victory for his team. If that will translate into a victory for his party, is not known, and won’tr until election day  :-)
