Cosmological Turbulence

May 1, 2008

Just when science though they had things all figured out, when what was left to be discovered had been, along come this quantum concept messing everything up. But more specifically as we look out into the deep darkness of space (is it really empty space?) called astronomical sciences, a branch of it is about to fall off the tree because of cosmological turbulence.

At the heart of this conundrum is a universe that is far more complex than we thought and additionally far more coherently structured.

Some of the things that have cosmologists scratching their heads about are: the universe is flatter than what we’ve thought (though the earth isn’t flat), the amount of gravational pull says there must be more mass than we know (missing mass?), and the cosmos is accelerating faster than we think possible. Why isn’t gravity putting the brakes on stuff out there?

And then we have these perturbations on our own little solar system that says something is out there that we should know about, but don’t! A 2012 connection? A brown dwarf? Maybe. Maybe not. If there is anything we should do it’s admit that we know less than we think and quit putting down others for thinking they know it all as well.

We think we know that the universe is exactly 13.7 billion years old.

But then Christians think the earth is only some 6,000 years old. Somewhere wew have a major diconnect between science and religion, but then you knew that didn’t you! I’m holding loosely to what I think I know and have dumped most of what I knew. It’s about the only way to presereve ones sanity. It’s still a living universe with exact reasons for life.

Some astronomers and cosmologists in California study the ‘disastrous’ death of the Sun (some 5 billion [5 x 109] years into the future), and the ‘imminent’ collision between Andromeda and the Milky Way (some15 billion [15 x 109] years into the future), and get extremely agitated about it. Maybe we ought to bring our focus back here in the NOW or at least in the next 4-5 years and tehn maybe some of the “turbulence” will depart.
