Gustav Heads To Gulf
August 30, 2008
Trying to figure out where Gustav will land has been an interesting problem. Just when the weather men felt like thay had it figured out, Gustav went South- literally! Instead of going west and moving between Jamaica and Cuba, Gustav got shoved directly South by a prominent HIGH that formed over Florida. So, Instead of Ocho Rios and the North of Jamaica getting the brunt, it was Kingston and South Jamaica taking the big hit.
But now that Jamaica is in the rear view mirror, where in the Gulf is he headed?
So, on the 3rd year anniversary, August 29, 2005, of Katrina, Gustav is an ugly reminder of life lived below sea level. But, maybe the gods will sapre New Orleans this time. Gustav even has the Republicans thinking of changing their convention dates. Can they do that? I mena they just surprised us with Sarah Palin as the choice for VP, so anything is possible.
An early morning symbolic burial service in honor of the unclaimed bodies left behind by Katrina, and a bell ringing service scheduled for 9:38 a.m. CDT — when the first levee broke inundating the city — were the only events that remained on what would have been a day of remembrance of the devastating storm. Instead, preparations were under way in the event Gustav strikes in a few days.
I’ve purchased my water and supplies because Houston isn’t in the clear yet.
Gustav could grow into a major hurricane — a Category 3 storm — by the time it reaches western Cuba on Saturday, the hurricane center said. At least 51 people died in southwestern Haiti and eight were killed in neighboring Dominican Republic as Gustav passed through Wednesday, officials there said. But fear and uncertainty about Gustav’s position and strength by Monday sent emergency officials and politicians in the United States scrambling to prepare for a possible landfall of a major hurricane somewhere along the Gulf Coast.
Can you sat CAT 3?
Don’t say 4- Don’t say New Orleans!
