Hasta La Vista Patti!
February 11, 2008
Talk about a bad weekend- a really bad hair day (or two)! Hillary lost the Louisana Primary big time, the Nebraska caucaus worse yet, the Washington State caucus by a mile, and the Virgin Island caucus by 90% to 10%. And then to add some salt to the wound, Obama slammed her in the Sunday Maine caucus. So what’s a lady to do? Fire Patti!
Of course you make it look like your campaign manager stepped down and you fashion an endearing letter to authenticate the “non-firing”.
Hillary replaced campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, naming long time aide Maggie Williams to the top job. Solis Doyle announced the shift in an e-mail to the staff on Sunday. “I have been proud to manage this campaign and prouder still to call Hillary my friend for more than 16 years,” Solis Doyle wrote. “Maggie is a remarkable person and I am confident that she will do a fabulous job.”
Translation: Hillary’s not happy with my performance- or is it Bubba that made the call? Whoever or whatever, Hillary is now behind in elected pledged delegates.
Clinton’s new campaign manager, Maggie Williams, served as her chief of staff when the New York senator was first lady. Williams joined Clinton’s campaign after her third-place showing in the Iowa caucuses Jan. 3. At the time, Solis Doyle was urged to remain on board as campaign manager. After FIVE weekend losses, someone had to be the scapegoat.
Tuesday may not fare any better for Maggie and company, but looking to the March 4th primaries (epecially here in Texas), Hillary hopes to turn the ship around. She is now definitely behind is committed delegates to the convention, but when you add the super delegates (what a name), she’s still slightly ahead.
So Tuesday it’s on to the Potomac primary where we’ll see if Obama can keep running the tables.
