Honest Abe?

March 29, 2008

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States. Lincoln’s ambivalence toward slavery is well documented. Lincoln said that if he could save the Union without freeing a single slave he would do so. And when one looks into the true history of “honest Abe”, he doesn’t come out too honest. Does any politician? Hillary has certainly advanced the negative cause this week.

I’ll use Hillary because she was in the news this week and seems to have a proclivity for stretching, exaggerating, mis-speaking, or just out right LYING about events. Everyone has seen the Bosnia tall tale more times than we’d like this week. You know, her running for cover under sniper fire that never was. How silly!

In an effort to make her look “experienced”, she of course peddled the lie that she helped broker the Irish peace pact. Everyone involved in that effort said it never happened. She was out having tea with the ladies and visiting various Irish sites and monuments.

Is this the person you want on the other end of the RED PHONE?

The fact that she just makes stuff up out of the blue when it’s really not needful concerns me the most. I certainly don’t want a president who has a history of lying. I can put up with a lot of other things, but I need to have some trust in the person who is leading our nation. And speaking of just making stuff up, how about the 9-11 story?

After 9/11, Hillary was interviewed on the “Today” show wherein she just offered up this tall tale.

She said that Chelsea was jogging around the World Trade Center on 9/11 and happened to duck into a coffee shop when the airplanes hit. She said that this move saved Chelsea’s life. But Chelsea told Talk magazine that she was in a friend’s apartment four miles from ground zero when the first plane hit. Her friend called her, waking her up, and told her to turn on the TV. On television, she saw the second plane hit, disproving Hillary’s claim that “she heard the plane hit”.

The politics of destruction are bad enough, we don’t need to add tall tales to the mix.

This is the woman who insisted for more than a decade that she was named after the late, great mountain-climber Sir Edmund Hillary, never mind that she was born six years before he scaled Mt. Everest in 1953.

This is the woman who claimed to have “helped start” the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program- never mind that the program’s original sponsors noted that Sen. Clinton fought the initial bill and had no role in writing the legislation.

History has numerous other wild fantasies that she’s told which begs the question how many lies has she told that we’re not aware and more importantly, is this who we want as our President? No politician, no person is a saint, but if TRUST is missing, how can a nation progress- prosper? I’m not looking for an “honest abe”, but I am looking for someone with a core of integrity, but the Clinton clan seems to seriously deficient in that category!

One Response to “Honest Abe?”

[...] Al-Sadr’s nine-point statement was issued by his headquarters in the holy city of Najaf and broadcast through loudspeakers on Shiite mosques. It said the first point was: “taking gunmen off the streets in Basra and elsewhere.” One has to wonder who tells the tallest tales- Hillary or al-Sadr? [...]
