Inflammatory vs. Conciliatory
February 27, 2008
I hope that we have seen the last Democratic debate- on with the general election debate. What I observed in reference to the Cleveland, Ohio debate was the attitudinal difference of the two candidates that go to the heart of their basic characters. Hillary Clinton came across as inflammatory to both Obama and the moderators, while Obama repeatedly came across as gracious and conciliatory.
The very obvious contrasts for me are the confidence, poise, and graciousness of Obama as compared to the aggressiveness, agitation, and attacking nature of Hillary. Of course, Hillary is the one who is behind; however, there’s a nature about Obama that’s fresh and different than the argumentative demeanor of most politicians. His smile is infectous and his cool and calm conveys a peace that’s reassuring.
Hillary argued over which word should be more forceful- rejecting or renouncing. She argued over a half dozen nick-picking points on health care. Hillary wouldn’t let the the moderators move on and had to be called down due to a need for a commercial. She came across as anything but presidential while Obama refused to be baited or drawn into silly and trivial dribble about characterizations that Hillary had made of Obama on the campaign trail
As I said after the Austin debate, there were no knock out punches landed and Hillary needed that badly. I see Obama getting stronger and stronger and more self assured with each round. And as I’ve said for many months now, he comes across as the right person with the right name to bring healing to our white-black history and restoration between our foreign neighbors that need to be our domestic friends.
So, a week from now we’ll know if the campaigns drags out until April. I sure hope not! Clinton has $10,000,000 being spent through a 527 to help here win Ohio and Texas. May the four primaries on March 4th put this puppy to bed!
