NEGATIVE TRAGEDIES
September 28, 2004
I think the solution to making America a better place to live is to pack up the entire United States Congress, including all of the ten Democratic candidates that aren’t already in the Senate, and ship them out for a two week tour of Iraq.
Every Congressman who comes back from a visit to Iraq carries the same message. Iraq is full of positive things, growth, and progress. The only negative in Iraq is the U.S. press that is viewed there.
The U.S. press is doing more to damage our prospects for success in Iraq than anyone, other than maybe the ten Democratic candidates. When the U.S. went in to liberate Iraq in 1991, and then stopped short of Baghdad, every Iraqi who supported our efforts wound up dead or mutilated. So when they hear the rantings of the Democratic party big-wigs about us pulling out of Iraq, they have to have fears of making a commitment to us.
A question that I heard this morning was, “Is it possible to run for president of the U.S. and not run down the country in the process.” Is there any civility left in politics? It is literally a national tragedy that the press and politics have become so negative. How demoralizing to be in a U.S. military uniform, risking your life in Baghdad, and hearing General Clark say the things he’s saying.
Sometimes the “right” to say things is “wrong”.
