Obama Trounces Mama (and Papa too)

January 27, 2008

Barack Obama didn’t just beat Mama (Hillary) by double digits in the South Carolina primary, he wiped her and finger-pointing Papa (Bubba) out with and amazing 2-1 advantage. Two to One! 295,000 votes to 141,000 (55% to 27%); better than 2-1! Hillary hops on a place late afternoon for Tennessee and Bubba says so what! Jesse Jackson won twice before but never became president.

News flash Bubba! Jesse Jackson was no Barack-Star! In fact, Barack Obama has at least two characteristics, symbols of hope, that Jessee Jackson never embraced.

By the way, in case anyone cares, John Edwards, a native son who won the primary here in 2004, finished a distant third. One must wonder why he is still in the race. What appointment does he want? He’s now looking more like Dennis Kucinich. Well, not that bad, but it’s not good.

Addressing the racial divisiveness and personal attacks of the primary, Obama acknowledged his South Carolina came with some difficulties and that the road ahead will be just as hard. “We are up against forces that prevent us from being who we want to be,” he said. “We are up against the idea that it’s OK to say anything and do anything to win an election.”

It’s now on to Super Tuesday where no one has to win big, the races just need to be close as delegates are not selected on a winner take all, but proportional to the vote. For the Republicans, there’s the important Florida primary, but we already know that outcome. And then it’s on to Super Tuesday for them as well.

The big difference between the Republican and Democratic primary run is the “undemocratic” Democratic Super Delegate formula where 40% of the delegates come from old party hacks who can ignore what the primaries said and do whatever they want. Strange format don’t you think? But, for th time being the Star is back, the hope is alive, and Bubba must be seething: wishing he’d gone to Davos instead. In fact, Hillary would have probably one better if Bubba has gone to Davos instead. But, by staying in South Carolina, we got to see the true Bubba come to light once more with that finger-pointing, “I did not have sex with that woman” foreboding demeanor
