OKAY RON, COUNT ME IN!

April 28, 2004

As a political science and history major in college, I must admit that it’s taken me a long time to come to the conclusion that Ron Paul (R-Texas) came to years ago. I am either for a wholesale realignment of the U. N. or we pull out of it.

Yesterday’s addition of Cuba to the 53 member Human Rights Commission wasn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back. When you have nations like Syria, Zimbabwe, China, and Libya already on it, why not Cuba as well?

I think what did it for me was Jacques Chirac’s call for a E.U. military alignment. We already have NATO so why an E.U? The answer is simple. France wants to run something, anything, everything! Listen, they belong to NATO but they do not belong to the military defense portion of NATO. I can imagine what a E.U. Defense League would look like. The King has no clothes!

Having nations on the critically important Security Council like Cameroon, Angola, and Guinea decide the fate of the U.S. is a little much for me as well. I can appreciate the protective measures in our constituion for the minority opinions; however, I think the U.N. abuses the concept.

Listen, what France is attempting to do with the E.U. or a portion reminds me that ALLIANCES are for a season. Just look back over the last century. Look at the many wars and see how alliances are a matter of changing values. It appears to me that our values no longer match those of France or the U.N.

If we must stay a member, let’s surely not submit any major issues to the “debating fraternity” that has no backbone. So, okay, Ron Paul, sign me up as in support for your H.R. 1146- our withdrawal from the U.N.
