The Super Tuesday Draw

February 6, 2008

For the Democrats, there were no knockouts, while for the Republicans Romney is on the ropes. Hillary once again staved off the building momentum that Obama has going for him; however, for each week that Hillary does not take command, the Barack-Star shines brighter. While Super Tuesday was big in the number of states, we now get down and dirty with more face to face combats.

The estimated delegate count is all over the place from 582 to 485 at the low side (for Hillary) to 845-765 on the high side which means that Hillary has less than a 100 delegate lead. Most of the confusion is if one is counting the Super Delegates or not. Hillary took the large crown jewels (New York and California) however, she had to share the delegates. Obama took nearly twice as many states.

Something that has been showing up over and over again as it did last night. Obama does well in the caucus states (remmber Iowa and Nevada last month?). What’s up with that? It all began with him winning the 96% white Iowa caucus. We’ll see if that trend can continue this Saturday.

While the Democrats have a primary in Louisiana this Saturday, they also have THREE caucus nominations this Saturday as well: Washington State, Nebraska, and the Virgin Islands. Next Tuesday three more primaries are on the docket with Maryland, Virgina, and Washington, D.C. up to bat.

On the Republican side of the ledger where there is little excitment, compared to the Democratic story, Romney made an interesting commednt last night by saying he was fighting to keep America great in the image of great presidents citing Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Teddy Roosevelt. He omitted President George W. Bush.

It’s politics folks! :-)
