UNFAIR & UNBALANCED
March 29, 2005
Sometimes, I have to bite my lower lip or squeeze my toes up as tight as I can in my shoes to hold back that emotional outburst that would bring unwanted attention. The last few days have been very much like that.
It ended when I posted an article in USAToday (it may still be on this site under the “Political News” with the caption- Poll: Bush Credibility Down). The headline was followed up by the statistic showing that 54% of the people felt that the Bush administration didn’t do all it could to prevent 9-11.
Let me ask this question. Is THAT question the most important one or would the question, who should be president, be the most important? I think both JFK and Bush would say the latter.
Well, buried behind that news was the poll results that showed Bush NOW leads JFK by a 51-47 percentage point spread: a GAIN of 7 percentage points in the last three weeks. The same poll! Over on the Drudge website (you know that radical right-wing conservative (?) the same poll is reported but the caption is : Bush Rebound! And, the lead is the 51-47 standing.
Lesley Stahl’s 27 minute interview of Richard Clarke talking 99% of the time about only the Bush administration failures and not Clinton, is another example of unfair and unbalanced.
But of course the fact that Clarke is getting more than a million for his book doesn’t mean he has a vested interest, or that he voted for Gore in 2000, or the fact that even HE refused to testify in 1999 citing “privilege”, which he now berates Rice for invoking. Politics at its worst. Maybe.
Anyway. who said the press had to be “Fair and Balanced”? That’s just a catch-phrase Fox News uses.
