Sean Hannity has been pounding the Obam Ayers connection for months and now Sara Palin has joined the chorus aswe get into the real mud-slining days of the presidential campaign. Sarah Palin on Saturday accused Democrat Barack Obama of “palling around with terrorists” because of his association with a former 1960s radical, stepping up the campaign’s effort to portray Obama as unacceptable to American voters.

So who is this terrorist Ayers and is he in jail somewhere?

actually, Ayers is an American elementary education theorist. Say what? He was a former leading 1960s militant. Millions were! Tens of millions hated and protested the Viet Nam war. Ayers is known for the radical nature of his activism in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as his current work in education reform, curriculum and instruction.

In 1969 he cofounded the violent radical left organization Weatherman, which was active during the 1960s and 1970s. He is now a professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, holding the honor of Distinguished Professor. Distinguished professor and a terrorist?

Palin’s reference was to Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground is meant to tie Obama’s Muslim sounding name to radical anything. Members of the Weatherman took credit for bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, during the tumultuous Vietnam War era four decades ago. Obama, who was a child when the group was active, served on a charity board with Ayers several years ago and has denounced his radical views and activities.

“How will you live your life so that it doesn’t make a mockery of your values?” Ayers later wrote in his memoir, Fugitive Days, that his reaction was: “You could not be a moral person with the means to act, and stand still. To stand still was to choose indifference. Indifference was the opposite of moral” So, in 1965, Ayers joined a picket line protesting an Ann Arbor, Michigan, pizzeria for refusing to seat African Americans. His first arrest came for a sit-in at a local draft board, resulting in 10 days in jail.

Ayers currently lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, the same neighborhood that Barack Obama lives in and from there one can draw all sorts of conclusions, will, and have. But this I know, almost all of us have done crazy things in our life, especially our youth, that we wished we had not. Life is not so much of where we started or the journey and route we took, but the place to which we now stand.

Distinguished professor isn’t all that bad in my book.

Is it that time already? For one, I am glad we’ve finally reached this death knell stage because it’s a reminder that the two year drawn out political campaigning for the office of president of the United States is about over. In fact, we’re now under one month to go. So, let the trash-smash mouth talk begin. And who better to get the ball rolling that Sarah Barracuda? In national politics, you always throw the VP candidate under the bus first.

This weekend, Sarah got the ball rolling, by “rolling up her sleeves” and taking a few shots across the bow of the Obama political ship. She accused Obama of “palling it up with terrorists”, saying things that “disqualified him from being commander in chief”, and reminding people that, “Obama see a different America than we do.” Who’s the WE here? We white people? Of course you know that’s going to be how it’s interpreted!

Unlike the lessons John Kerry learned with the Swift-boat attacks in 2004, the Obama camp isn’t going to keep quiet and let such statement go unanswered. Many feel that Kerry lost because he didn’t defend himself sooner in the Swift boat saga.

The warnings of massive retaliation came as McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, took on the role of attacker and said that Obama sees America as so imperfect “that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.” She was referring to an early Obama supporter, 1960s radical Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground whose members were blamed for several bombings when Obama was a child.

Obama has denounced Ayer’s radical views and activities.

On Sunday Obama unveiled a TV ad on the economy that paints McCain was “erratic in a crisis” — a not-subtle suggestion that McCain’s age, 72, might be an issue. Democrats were well-synchronized Sunday, using the word “erratic” and Keating’s name in nearly-matching sentences across the talk show circuit. Several Obama surrogates said his supporters may start reminding voters of McCain’s ties to Charles Keating, a convicted savings and loan owner whose actions two decades ago triggered a Senate ethics investigation that involved McCain as one of the “Keating Five.”

“This is going to be a month, I think, of character assassination,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., an Obama supporter, said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Really! You don’t say! And we’ve got 29 more days to go. Be careful of allowing your kids to watch ANY TV from now til then.

The ancients had a grasp of astronomical cycles unlike even some of our most sophistictaed scientists today. The question is how did they know what they knew? Without the complex high tech equipment that we have today, how were they able to figure out precession, eccentrocity, obliquity, and axial tilt? Who even know what all that means today?

The Milankovittz cycles are recent scientific discoveries, even while their validity is being argued, but apparently well known and understood by many of the ancients, including the Mayans.

Most high school students can tell you that the earth TILTS, but why?

In astronomy, axial tilt is the inclination angle of a planet’s rotational axis in relation to its orbital plane. It is also called axial inclination or obliquity. The axial tilt is expressed as the angle made by the planet’s axis and a line drawn through the planet’s center perpendicular to the orbital plane. Very much like Milankovitch’s eccentricity cycle, the obliquity cycle is not well understood.

The eccentricity cyle is a 100 year one while the obliquity cycle is but 41,000 years.

The theory states that the earth axis tilt changes from 22.1 to 24.5 degrees: a 2.4 degree tilt. It doesn’t sound like alot but it’s major. We are currently at a 23.5 tilt or about mid way between the extremes. The greater the tilt the more noticable are the seasons. The Mayans understood this. How’d they know? How could they have comprehended such information by general observation?

Or, were they somehow able to communicate with their gods, “the God”, in ways long since forgotten?

Maybe we should spend more time answering that mystery between now and 2012.

The question is NOT will the stock market crash? The question is not will the stock market CORRECT. Hey, all of that stuff has already happened. Have you noticed the Friday closing numbers on the three major indexes? But, neither are we facing a depression style stock market decline of 90%. Enough people will commit suicide with Dow 7,000. It doesn’t need to drop to 1,200 (90% decline).

While last weeks 778 point drop of the Dow for one day was the greatest single day point drop, it could even come close to a top percentage drop. But let’s face it. For the year the Dow is down more than 3,100 points, the Nasaq down more than 700 points, and the S&P 500 almost down 400 points.

OUCH!

And the reality of all that is forthcoming very shortly when the 3Q 401k and other retiurement fund realities come in the mail. The $700 billion dollar bail out can’t change those figures and I doubt if it can change 4Q pain either. Let’s get real about the state of the economy here in America and world wide. It’s not going into a depression though you will be DEPRESSED!

Sometime before Thanksgiving (can you say right after the election?), Paulson will begin the process of buying some $250 billion of worthless assets. And then before he can spend any more money, there will be a new president. That doesn’t mean things will radically change because even if it is McCain, he’ll be dealing with a more Democratically balanced Congress. Ah, reality!

banks will continue to hoard capital, credit markets will stay tight, and loans will get even more expensive. Unemployment is going to keep dropping. Can you say 6.5% unemployment sometime in the 1Q of ‘09, at the latest? It’s not going to be a merry Christmas, or at least not as merry as consumers would pretend.

Lest we forget, we live in a global economy that continues to weaken. The Euro is tanking and banks in Europe are now folding. Oil has had it. The party is over! I smell $75 a barrel regardless of what Chavez would like to see or what OPEC might do. How far the Dow falls is anyone’s guess, but my guess is a lot lower than people think- or want.

As Richard Russell wrote Friday, “Under Dow Theory principle which he’s followed all his life, we now have a bear market reconfirmation.” BEAR is in brrrrrr. Dow FIVE DIGITS will give way to Dow FOUR DIGITS before we know it. For me, that’s the defintion of stock market crash in any terminology.

It’s hard to imagine that a society like the Mayans could have been so wise and sahrp when it came to time, calendars and a cosmic ethos and yet apparently so little attuned to the realities on the ground. The Mayan culture would fit the phrase, you’re so heavenly bound that you’re no earthly good. At least history seems to be telling us that about their civilization.

Societies and epochs have a tendency to follow the line or circle mentality (circly being circular or cyclical).

As we have moved away from an agrarian culture and into the industrial-digital-service world, we’ve left behind some things that are very important. We’re no longer aware of the seasons like we once were when we were a farming community. We no longer see the major cycles that the old Farmers Almanac would remind us. As a result we miss things like the Milankovitch cycles and opt instead for the Al Gore global warming paradigms.

Yet on the other hand, the Mayans were so caught up in cycles (of the heavens) that they lost sight of the straight line to destruction that they were following.

Jared Diamond reveals that the Mayan cutlrue which unexplicably disappeared in just a couple of decades, did so because of their obsession with cycles and their blindness to straight lines. He wries, “The Mayans overfarmed, deforested, and overpopulated their land” without noticing. A 2004 NASA study verified Diamond’s theory by revealing that trapped pollen in sediments taken from the Mayan geographical homeland, dating back to just before the Mayan collapse, indicates that trees had almost completely disappeared and had been repalced by weeds.

It’s also estimated that the Mayan civilization had 1,500 persons per sq. mile. Way too much for life to be sustained.

As a result of their blindness to the straight line of progress in many fields, their population abruptly declind by 90% in a few decades. The opposite lesson needs to be learned by the post-modern world. Cycles need to be planned for and understood because several of those BIG cycles are coming around not too many years down the road.

Can you say 2012?

Now that the Senate has passed the $700 billion bailout legislation, the House will be forced-shamed into doing teh same thing. Thus we have diverted a DEPRESSION, so they say. And lookie here. Swiss banking giant UBS on Thursday said it would swing into profit in the third quarter, as it seeks to regain client trust after successive quarters of losses on massive asset writedowns.

Now that Paulson, Bernanke, and Cox have scared Congress into helping a handful of financial institutions, we can all take a breath. There will now no longer be a DEPRESSION. Well, duh!

Let’s see now, our unemployment rate is 6% (newest figures being released today) whereas in the Great Depression of the 30’s it was 24%. Many people date the beginning of the Depression at October 24, 1929, Black Thursday, the day the stock market crashed. This was indeed a traumatic day for those who owned stock as sales volume broke all records. And what were those records anyway?

The Dow dropped from 261.97 to 255.39 as measured by the New York Times index of 50 stocks. Most of the decline still laid in the future; the market hit bottom on July 7 of 1932 when the Times index was only 33.98, a decline of over 89% from its high of 311.90 of September 19, 1929. And how does that compare to today? NO COMPARISON! The Dow dropped 778 points on Monday and then came back with a 485 point up day the next day.

If we’re going to look at 1930 depression numbers the Dow would have to drop nearly 9,500 points. It ain’t happenin!

Putin is spittin mad that things have not gone well, Chavez says capitalism is over, and many are saying that the SKY is falling. It’s amazing what we’ll say to get our way. Bush and his various henchmen have moved us closer to socialism with this “Depression-like” scare. If there was going to be a depression do you think Warren Buffett would put uf $5 BILLION to buy into Goldman-Sachs and another $3 BILLION to buy GE stock? Come on, get real! We’re talking eight million in CASH!

Let’s face it, we’ve become SPOILED!

We want our cake and eat it too. We don’t want any sort of bad news. We want raises every year. We want the good times to never end. A recession should never happen. So, to keep the good times rolling teh Senate has passed the EMERGENCY ECONOMIC STABILIZATION ACT OF 2008. Emergency! The Senate has saved us from anotehr depression- that never was going to happen anyway. Tough times? Sure. A few down years? Absolutely. But the “sky is falling”? Hardly!

What Al Gore thinks he knows about global warming is amusing if not so far from the truth. Having spent way too many winters in Topeka, Kansas, I was interested in the fact that every year I could count on a warm snap around January 15th. Every year without fail it happen. What was up with that? And then I discovered Serbian civil engineer and mathematician Milutin Milankovi?. Who?

We give credit to Copernicus (the Catholic church sure didn’t) for the heliocentric principle over the geocentric madness that prevailed until the Enlightenment or thereabouts.

As a kid I was amused at the way a spinning top worked. Give it a hard twist and it stood almost upright as it spun though you could detect that the very top point was moving around in the circle. As the top began to slow down, the point would extend further out until the spin was more a wobble and then it fell over.

Who spun the earth into precession?

Precession refers to a change in the direction of the axis of a rotating object. What’s amazing is that though Hipparchus gets credit for understanding precession and the fact that the universe is one giant clock, cultures way before 200BCE got it. The Egyptians, Babyonians, Sumerians, Atlanteans, and maybe even the Lemurians were savvy to precession.

The Milankovitch eccentricity cycle (one of three) reminds us that the earth’s orbit around the sun isn’t a perfect circle. What Milankovitch figured out is that there’s a larger cycle than the 26,000 year one that the Mayans understood. There’s a 100,000 year eccentricity cycle that could account for the ice ages, and other catastrophies.

You see, when the earth’s orbit around the Sun is nearly a perfect circle, there’s only about a 3% variation in distance from the sun anytime of the year (and a 6% variation in received solar energy). Guess when we get that extra 6% boast (in recent modern times)? That closeness, known as perihelion is around January 15th for those in the Northern hemisphere. Bingo! My warm mid January mystery solved! No thanks to Al Gore.

Ah, now for the interesting facts.

When the earth’s rotation around the sun moves from a perfect circle to a more elliptical one as it does every 100,000 years, our planet receives 20-30% more and less solar energy. Thus when the elliptical pattern is at aphelion, we receive 30% lees solar energy. Can you say ICE AGE?</em> You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free……and help us as we move closer to several probabilities for 2012.

You getting FREE?

Until this past week, the US$ had taken a real beating. In light of the financial meltdown, one would think our currency would be worse; however, in the past week the Euro has taken a drubbing, the Pound a beating, and all other currencies have fallen in relation to the US$. Go figure!

Every country and entity deals in some sort of currency- some more valuable than others!

When it comes to the church, the currency “should” be spiritual matters. Too often though the currency of the realm is programs, promotion of a code of ethics, adherence to denominational creeds, and liturgical obedience. There’s nothing wrong with any of those principles so long as they aren’t seated on stage with high back chairs, if you catch my drift.

Laurie Beth Jones knocked the sails out of the religious pardigm with her book, “Jesus In Blue Jeans”. A conversation that I had with her several years ago centered around teh paradox of the secular Jesus along side the spiritual Jesus. Nothing was said about the religious Jesus. He wasn’t. Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion though the Western church has somehow lost sight of that point.

When will we begin to ask, where’s the beef or state, show me the money. How does one come into agreement with the Spirit that lives within, the spiritual beings that we are? How do we become the LOVE that God is, and how do we let OUT the resources that are beyond measure within us? When do wwe awaken to the fact that there’s a coporate ego as well as individual ones?

Show me how to overcome self righteousness. Show me how to heal those in need. Show me how I can cast a mountain (is that literal?) into the sea. And tell me about those mirculous works that are being done that are greater than Jesus accomplished for He said we would do them. For Christ’s sake, show me the spiritual good’s- the spiritual currency!

We are RICH! We just don’t know it.

It’s been said for centuries that there are two tragedies to life. The first is when you don’t get what you want and the second is when you do get what you want. How many husbands or wives would say AMEN? But, let’s not get pesonal now. Let’s discuss the $700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT! Somewhere I think of of the mistakes to getting the bill passed was in the name BAILOUT!

Sometimes the NAME we give something makes all the difference in the world.

Pro-CHOICE was a good choice! In America we all want to have the right to choose; however, we don’t want to have to BAILOUT someone especially when those at the top are making millions of dollars as a result. I believe the bill would have already passed had it been called the RESCUE! I am personally against the bailout or the rescue.

And I applaud those Congressmen and women who had the courage of their convictions to say NO MAS!

Everything we can do to slow the movement towards socialism, I am for; however, when saying that, I am for compassionate capitalism and not what we’ve been witnessing. I sure don’t want Henry Paulson who has done a terrible job at the treasury given another chance to even control our credit markets any further. Enough!

In his Communist Manifesto, (1848), Karl Marx proposed 10 measures to be implemented after the proletariat takes power, with the aim of centralizing all instruments of production in the hands of the state. Proposal Number Five was to bring about the “centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.” Maybe we should get some advice on how to do this from Hugo Chavez.

The Dow gained back 485 points Tuesday after losing 778 on Monday. Now that’s capitalism and a market not beneficial to the little guy. My advice is to stay OUT of the market, conserve cash, back off of spending, and change your ideas about this Christmas spending because pass or not (and the bill will), it’s going to be a long hard winter.

We’re damned if we do, and damned if we don’t.

Two tragedies of life in one bailout bill!

One has to give some thought as to why the Mayans were so interested, obsessive, over the concept of time. Hey, there were no tough schedules to meet, no 8:30 am morning staff meetings, not even a plane to catch. So, what’s up with the obsession with time? Maybe there’s a clue in Hurricane Ike.

I could help but be struck with the pitch dark world that I lived in called Houston, Texas. On Saturday night, September 13th as I drove around my neighborhood (before the curfew) not seeing one light. It was a strange and weird feeling. To add to the mystery, there was a full moon.

As we moved into the third night without electricity, I began to get some sense of what life might be like living with the sun and moon. One spent the day doing daylight things and then one prepared for night, with no light, save a candle or flashlight. They dind’t have generators either. It was back to nature living- of a sort.

As Lawrence Joseph wrote, “The role of the calendar in Mayan life with the awareness of cyclicity in the movement of celestial bodies and the evolution of mathematical skills by which they could manipulate the numbers derived from from those calenderal cycles.” In other words, it’s what they had time for as much as anything.

But, I sense a more meaningful spiritual encounter as well. Surely they had help beyond their intellectual skill so that they could see the dark rift and interpret things that we’re only now understnading with the air of telescopes out there in space. What they knew is beyond extra time at night. WHat they knew came from somewhere beyond and someplace deep within as well.

Why don’t we go there….before 2012!

As we come to the last trading day of the third quarter, it’s hard to imagine things could get worse- but they can and most probably will. Even if Congress can revive a bailout bill, is there enough money to save the world from a serious recession or mild depression? Obama blames McCain, McCain blames Obama, Democrats blame Republicans, and Republicans blame Pelosi. Alot of good all that crap will do us!

Why don’t we look at “we the people” who vote for Congressmen and women who give us what we want, bring home the bacon (can you say pork barrel spending), and artificially prop up the economy with entities such as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

Congress has balked at the Bush administration’s proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. Under this plan, the Treasury would have bought the “troubled assets” of financial institutions in an attempt to avoid economic meltdown. Why should we bail out Wall Street? Who is going to bail me out if I go bankrupt? No one! Absolutely NO ONE!

What happened? Can you say GREED? Can you say CORRUPTION?

The federal government chartered Fannie Mae in 1938 and Freddie Mac in 1970; these two mortgage lending institutions are at the center of the crisis. The government implicitly promised these institutions that it would make good on their debts, so Fannie and Freddie took on huge amounts of excessive risk. Hey, if I have a sugar daddy saying they’ll fund me, or back me on any losses at the roulette table, I’m going to play a little more loose.

Wait! That’s a LOT MORE LOOSE!

Beginning in 1977 and even more in the 1990s and the early part of this century, Congress pushed mortgage lenders and Fannie/Freddie to expand subprime lending. The industry was happy to oblige, given the implicit promise of federal backing, and subprime lending soared. This subprime lending was more than a minor relaxation of existing credit guidelines. This lending was a wholesale abandonment of reasonable lending practices in which borrowers with poor credit characteristics got mortgages they were ill-equipped to handle.

There is plenty of blame to go around. And, once housing prices declined and economic conditions worsened, defaults and delinquencies soared, leaving the industry holding large amounts of severely depreciated mortgage assets. And now we want to say get back in there and gamble some more? Here’s $700 billion to keep you at the tables.

No way, no how! There’s only one way to break the addiction(s). Leave Vegas and go back home and go to work. The party is over. Let’s not put another billion at risk! The financial meltdown story is going to run its course!

Gold was up over $30 as a result.

“It would be hard to invent a scenario that could be more bullish for gold than right now,” said Mark O’Byrne, executive director at Gold and Silver Investment. “Bailout or no bailout, gold is going a lot higher due to a broad based flight to quality.” Not to mention the fact that the Fed is pouring and I mean POURING money (liquidity) into the system that cannot be mopped up before causing either massive inflation or a total loss of confidence in the US$.

“Metal trading will remain extremely volatile in the days ahead as the markets digest the implications of the bailout,” wrote Edward Meir, an analyst at futures brokerage MF Global.

The vote failure was a sharp blow to the Bush administration and bipartisan rallying efforts from leaders in Congress who warn that the country is on the brink of an economic precipice. Injecting further disruption in the global financial system, bank troubles extended across the Atlantic over the weekend.

Gold does well and the stock market does poorly on UNCERTAINTITY; and, if this isn’t that, then I don’t know what does pass for uncertainty! The yellow metal does SHINE!

The Dow immediately dropped nearly 600 points. That’s right SIX HUNDRED, not SIX ZERO! The House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry. Would you beleive that Bush no longer has any credibility and that Nancy Pelosi might not have much either.

So, where do we go from here?

Isn’t that breally the question that should have been asked under Bill Clinton when the dot.com craziness was going on? Isn’t that the question that should have been asked years ago under George Bush when ther eal estate craziness was going on. In between it all, did we think that we could finance a war and provide everything for everyone at the same time? Guns & Butter! It’s not possible at such levels .

Stocks plummeted on Wall Street even before the 228-205 vote to reject the bill was announced on the House floor. When the critical vote was tallied, too few members of the House were willing to support the unpopular measure with elections just five weeks away. Ample no votes came from both the Democratic and Republican sides of the aisle.

It was a bipartisan defeat!

I wonder if Warren Buffet now thinks he made the right move in cozying up to Goldman-Sachs? The stock immediately shed 15% of its value- even before the final vote came in.

The overriding question for congressional leaders was what to do next. Congress has been trying to adjourn so that its members can go out and campaign. And with only five weeks left until Election Day, there was no clear indication of whether the leadership would keep them in Washington. Leaders were huddling after the vote to figure out their next steps.

Isn’t politics a fun indoor sport!

Monday’s mind-numbing vote had been preceded by unusually aggressive White House lobbying, and spokesman Tony Fratto said that Bush had used a “call list” of people he wanted to persuade to vote yes as late as just a short time before the vote. Hey Bush, you’re a LAME DUCK! And you only have a couple of months to go so give up on anyone listening to your advice at this point.

It’s not personal!

When we look around the world today, many societies are vying for who has the best medical program. Is it America, Canada, another? Michael Moore thinks America has one of the worst medical situations. But what about when it comes to space travel? Can anyone top America? China just had their first space walk. But how about all-around technology. Who are the true pioneers?

How about if we go back 10,000 years BCE or so? Wanna journey there for a moment?

Everyone knows that the Wright brothers invented air travel, right? Well, what about the ancient digs in Egypt that turned up fourteen airplanes models, the first discovered in 1898 near an Egyptian tomb close to Sakkara. And of course our drones are the latest rage in warfare; however, even before Plato was born, Greek scientist Arachytas of Tarentum invented a kite that carried a person which the Greek armies used as aerial reconnaissance.

Indian epics such as “Drona parva” discuss in detail technical aspect or “aerial cars” which were in operation in prehistoric times.

Let’s go from the air to the water- under the water, like in submarines. Ancient historians such as Herodotus, Pliny, and even Aristotle wrote of such underwater ships. What technology did they use for such submersibles? But what about archaeological finds in the past 100 years that indicate medical advances as long ago as 20,000 BCE that allowed for brain surgery, tooth implants, and prosthesis operations? Not only have the surgical tools been unearthed, but so too the medical journals on how to perform such.

Both the Atlantean and Lemurian cultures were greatly advanced. They didn’t use the technology that we do today; however, they built the same machines with different principles.

A major distinction of the Lemurian society was their application of spiritual principles over material advances. We cannot do today what they could 50,000 yars ago such as erecting the 100 ton moai statues that are found on Easter Island, the 105 ton coral gate of Tonga, or the 100 ton basalt logs of Ponape’s Nan Madol in the Western Pacific. Or, how about the astronomically perfect construction of Stonehenge. Myths and ancient writings tell of the Lemurians ability through mind and spirit control to raise such structures by levitation principles. Psychic powers or a deep spiritual connection?

While we take great pride in going to the moon and building the Large Hadron Collider, ancient cultures such as the Mayans knew things about black holes and outer space that we’re just know realizing So, before we get too cocky about our modern day scientific discoveries, we might ask ourselves, how much more was known tens of thousands of years ago and what can we learn from them that might help us a couple of years down the road.

Can you say 2012?
